  • Mixing in key is a great way of making your transitions sound smoother and improving the overall quality of your mix. Serato can detect and display the key of your tracks to help you mix harmonically, see how in the video below!

This feature is really great! I don’t pay attention for a long time to key mixing. After I start to use it, a lot of tracks sound better during mix time. But I don’t stick to it. Sometimes I just mix tracks, which aren’t in key.

you dont have to mix in key all the time. if you are mixing a part with no melody it doesnt matter that much

I only mix in key for UA-cam/MixCloud mixes. Out in the clubs so long as you're keeping the energy in the right spot, nobody really cares or notices when you go up and down different keys

I think this video its just about share knowledge, u are the kind of people likes to start discussion of nothing , the ppl in the clubs dont care as long the have fun but djs should care about to know more technics to be better doing what they “love” so your coment i think is 👎🏼

Thank you for this video. I wasn't aware that you could change the keynote to make it the same as the other track within the Serato software. Now that I know this, I'm going to purchase the pitch n time expansion. Once again, thank you very much for this video lesson. Greatly appreciated.

Thanks for this video. Question, if I download mixed in key 8, can I delete MIK 7, & 5, which are still in my laptop?

If you go to setting you can get it to display the actual key, rather than the "Camelot" version

When mixing in key, if you use the expansion to match the keys to the tracks. When you plug your usb into a different deck set up will the songs remained saved in that matched key if that makes sense? Or will you need to do it again.

As an old-school (retired) DJ I can honestly say that harmonic mixing (in key) is irrelevant. You may disagree....but why...when playing the same song in counterpoint (2, or 4 or 8 beats behind) chords and melodic notes struck in subject, most of the time, seem sour and out of tune when in contrapuntal? In conclusion: The most significant underlying "nose-to-the-grindstone" rudimentary mixing principle for the DJ is: matching rhythm patterns.
