      Thanks for the tips, definitely going to take this into consideration, but not as indepth bc of my massive collection I have. But ill be making 'Smart Crates' with similar keys so it'll help with the process.

      I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

    This is great Pri! Another quick tip I found somewhere: I sort by BPM first, then CMD-click the KEY header. This enables a secondary sorting by key. Not as technical & useful as your method, but a useful quick fix.

    I've had my intelligent Playlist like this for months but I didn't think about it the way you explained it. I'm not a musician but I want to mix in a flowing style so I can more easily take the crowd on that journey. I appreciate your though process. Good tutorial brah. DJ S1

    A good shortcut in a pinch is using seratos key change function (although i wouldn’t say living with key sync ON isnt a good idea) there’s creative ways to bring it back to its original key after the transition.

    I also mix in key. Mostly with taktor software. Every month i do mix for a radio station. For that reason i often play promos and new stuff released same month. Sometimes you need to change key plus 1 or minus 1 to have that certain track in your mix. For example you play a track with key 6M and want a track that is key 1M. Just change -1 and 1M turns to 6M. Sounds perfect with electronic music.

    Great tips Joni. I will try this out. I mostly use the colours to determine the energy of my songs I listen to then and determine them with this rule Green =Low Yellow = Medium Red = High

    This is a great idea because Serato users are limited to 2 column sorting. It can be difficult even if ure searching within a crate defined by genre and/or BPM range. Brilliant! Have you considered making ur workflow more efficient by turning ur harmonic mixing crates as smart crates?

    • @knate22
      @knate22 2 роки тому

      You’ll lose control of what songs you want in the crate that are that specific key UNLESS you add another rule to the smart crate AND an additional identifier for the songs you want in the harmonic mixing smart crate. E.g. add the text “#Good” in the grouping column of each song to identify the songs you want added to the harmonic mixing smarter crate. Then add the following rule: Grouping - Contains - #Good. Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!

    Great Video ... maybe it could be nice if you did some more beginner/ intermediate video. Just showing the difference in mixing by BPM and going to key. Wayyyyy over my head🤯 but I hope I can continue to figure out how to do this. It seems like it would be nice mixing in key. I currently do everything by BPM. 🙌🏾

    Great and smart idea Pri! I watned to ask what are your thoughts on how to not use this system and mix songs out of of key? Let's say mixing the current track (melody driven) with the new track (drum bass only) and vice versa? Do you go back to the "main library" or "collection" and just choose from there? Thanks I just subscribed!

    Hi, I'm just trying to get my head around harmonic mixing to mix in key, I mean I'm not going to use all the time but going to try it out. I use Serato so going to setup some crates and add some rules.
    Am I right in thinking that if setup these key notes as a rule then they should mix in key harmonically?
    and then go from like a 2a to a 2b or from a 2b to a 3b, so stay major or minor when moving around the wheel, is that right?
    12A 12B 1B 11B
    1A 1B 2B 12B
    2A 2B 1B 3B
    3A 3B 2B 4B
    4A 4B 3B 5B
    5A 4B 5B 6B
    6A 6B 5B 7B
    7A 6B 7B 8B
    8A 7B 8B 9B
    9A 8B 9B 10B
    10A 10B 9B 11B
    11A 10B 11B 12B
    keeping it in the original bpm

    @priyonjoni Can you explain how this is different from the Rekordbox / Pioneer Nexus feature "search by compatible key" functionality, or if that is basically a different implementation of this same method? (sincere question, not trying to dig on serato or rekordbox)

    I just pick 40 bangers out of 200 songs. Make a folder and just mix down the keys. 1A/1B - 12A/12B.

    So this special playlist is for you “go to” music. Does that mean your your whole collection is thoroughly sorted out by the piano app .. Or you analyze it through MIK to leave the keys as is for the whole collection knowing 20% may be analyzed incorrectly.
    Sorry to write so much but hopefully you understand what I was saying.

    • @priyonjoni
      @priyonjoni  3 роки тому +1

      I don’t use MIK. It’s not my entire collection, but basically everything I’ve downloaded since 2012.

    • @thecllctive6011
      @thecllctive6011 3 роки тому

      @@priyonjoni you dont use MIK .. but do use Camelot when playing. Just your ordinary analyzing on serato for the main collection of music.
      Though this SPECIFIC playlist has the MIK PERKS.... right?

  • @reemerzdvbz3703
    @reemerzdvbz3703 3 роки тому

    So 8 mixes with 9 and 7?

  • @playlistshift
    @playlistshift 3 роки тому

    I don't get it. When you play on a piano, you don't go from the note to the adjacent note only. You play it. Space it. From A to C# to E is still A. As monotonous as possible?

    • @priyonjoni
      @priyonjoni  3 роки тому

      That is correct. The reason is because, 5th intervals have the most notes that are the same. While the root note is different, the majority of the scale shares similar notes. Which is why mixing in key no on 5th intervals is more pleasing than say, going one semitone up or down.
