      no DJs dont use it, its 100% advertising for that software, all of the videos to this absurd idea of the "need" to mix in key surfaced when the company that makes the software started paying influencers and now that all the DJ software has it built in the videos have disapeared

  • @Pieter2360
    @Pieter2360 3 роки тому +9

    Mixing in key as super important. Just remember that compatibility of keys us only relevant if you mix melodic elements. When you mix 2 tracks and one of them only has drums going on for the duration of the transition, you can ignore the key (which vastly increases your possible combinations of tracks).

    Nice my brotha, I've been a dj for a million years, i go back to records, lol. I am a producer as well and just back into it. I've been doing the harmonic mixes without this knowledge, but I've been learning more about the color and keys of music and it's wonderful to come from a dj to a musician. I play a few instruments as well. You put the video together well and it was easy to understand

    Actually 10A is harmonically compatible with 1B. The reason is they are the major-minor versions of B. So if you go up 3 and change the key you can switch from minor to major. Aaaaand this is the BEST sounding mix, just give it a try.

      Heyyyy bro,
      Firstly I'm glad you found my tutorials helpful.
      Now let's jump in to the second part of your message. I would use myself as the point of discussion.
      When I started using keys to mix, it was HELL!!! 😂😂. I wanted to go crazy, but I can assure you that if you keep at it, you would get more and more used to it. Also key mixing would allow you to start mixing low and high BPM songs e.g 128bpm with 81bpm. Yes this looks odd but it works if they are the same key.
      Good luck out there bro and keep jamming.
      One love
      DJ Blink-Blink

      @@DjBlinkBlink Sorry for the late reply bruv. I tried the key mixing and just didn't get it.lol. I mean its good when you mix the first two songs then gets complicated if you have to mixed track 5 to 6 then 6 to 7 etc, the longer you go on your tracklist the more complicated it becomes but guess i'll have to try it again. No yawa bro. Keep safe

    • @DJDave80s
      @DJDave80s 4 роки тому +2

      @@DjBlinkBlink This is my question also. So for example, using your example of 128 BPM's & 81 BPM's above, you would have to slow one down and speed the other up. Wouldn't that sound funny? Obviously, I haven't really tried this but that's what I would think. If you could show us this in a video, that would be so cool. I was actually hoping you were going to do that. Thanks for the video.

    • @DjBlinkBlink
      @DjBlinkBlink  4 роки тому +3

      @@DJDave80s hello bro. When I mix two BPMs that are far apart like for example 128bpm and 81bpm, I use a couple of transitions that would not let anyone notice any issues with the speed of the track slowing down or moving too fast.
      Hopefully one day I would make a tutorial explaining how to do this.
      Cheers mate,
      DJ Blink-Blink

      @DJDave80s 4 роки тому +2

      @@DjBlinkBlink Thanks for replying. I'll def try this, but seeing it in a video will be more useful to me. This is one of the things I'm trying to learn. When the BPM's are not too far away, I can gradually adjust the speed without any notice. But a 50 BPM jump is out of my league. :)

      Yes, Mixed in key software works with Virtual DJ. If you're detecting and writing keys with Mixed in Key, then make sure the 'useKeyFromTag' VDJ option is set to 'yes', so that VDJ will use the tagged key instead of its own analysis.

    Hey DJ Blink Blink, I’ve just started following you and your tutorials are so helpful. I had a question, how do you beat match two songs that are in the same key but different bpms?

    • @DjBlinkBlink
      @DjBlinkBlink  4 роки тому +3

      Hello Eliezer,
      Thank you for your feedback and most importantly for following me via my UA-cam channel.
      As per your question, to beatmatch two songs that are in the same key but different BPMs you need to follow the sequence below:
      1. Decide which of the 2 songs you want to either decrease or increase the BPM
      2. Change the BPM of that song with your tempo slide or by using sync (for this example, let us imagine both tracks are 120BPM and 125BPM respectively. You can increase the 120BPM to 125BPM).
      3. After changing the BPM, you now need to "count the beats" for the FIRST song. Every song always has 4 bars....so you go, 1...2...3....4 (see link below for a detailed explanation of this)
      4. Your first down beat for the FIRST song would be where you would place the first bar of the second song you are beatmatching.
      This link explains this in full detail (it is a tutorial I made about beatmatching). ua-cam.com/video/z8lXrxRwIiw/v-deo.html

I'd be keen to purchase the Camelot software as i find the effort of using the wheel of fifths time consuming but am less interested in purchasing Serato. Does the Camelot software work independently organising these audio files without any additional software or am I going to have to fork out for something like Serato. Hope someone can help. Thanks!

    Hi DJ Blink-Blink. I've watched this video more than 2 times already. I don't know if it's me or the software I'm using. Sometime when I mix songs with similar melodies there is no harmony. Recently I was mixing a 5A and 4A and there was no harmony. BPMs were matching. Also, when I load a track on deck it shows one key (e.g 7A) but when I load the exact same song on another deck it shows a different key (e.g 12B instead of 7A). What could be the problem? I use Virtual DJ 8. Thanks.

      Hello Bulumko,
      I have a feeling VDJ has analyzed the "keys" for all your track wrongly. Cos in all honesty there should be no reason for you to get 2 different keys from the "same song" when loading it. This is definitely the reason you are NOT getting any Harmony when mixing.
      So what can you do? You can buy the MIXED IN KEY plugin or app and then analyze the whole of your music library again. You can buy the plugin via this link mixedinkey.com/
      Cheers,

      Hello mate. It depends on the genre you play and also your location. There are loads and loads of them out there and to be honest, no single one of them would cover all the genres we play as DJs. You would have to subscribe to at least 2 to have a wider and bigger library.
      Cheers, DJ Blink-Blink
