- The government of Puerto Rico has set aside land that’s supposed to be protected from urbanization. But that’s not stopping developers from buying it and seeking exceptions. Our natural resources and food sovereignty is at risk.

They can be drafted to war but hold no rights in congress, have no voice, are not allowed to vote, they pay large tariffs on their goods, we have use Puerto Rican land for nuclear testing, our government used Puerto Rican woman for human medical testing to sterilize them, for years we banned them from using their flag and speaking Spanish, and have basically held them hostage. They do not benefit from a lot of the tax payer dollar programs and there are massive tax breaks offered to rich American corporations who are buying up their native lands. They never wanted to be part of the US which is why they have voted against becoming a state many times. They want their freedom and autonomy back. I have family in Puerto Rico who are native Puerto Ricans so I speak from a place of not just historical knowledge but also from knowing how my extended family feels as native Puerto Ricans.
And the USA should be for Europeans. Not Latin-x and illegal aliens from all over the world.
Not anymore, you wanted to be part of the USA. Now you get USA interest. I'm going to buy up some of that land too baby, vacation there from NYC!

Hawaii is going through something similar like Puerto Rico. Outsiders are coming in making it difficult for locals to buy their first home. Many locals are becoming homeless because of this. My heart goes out to all of you. 🌈❤️🌷

I literally found your page after a trip to Vieques just last week, where I ended up with so many questions because of the things I saw that really didn’t sit well with me. Your videos definitely seem to be rooted from similar concerns I have.
No!! I am not Puerto Rican but I have loved Puerto Rico since my first visit in 1986 and I have two children who are half Puerto Rican. I always loved the island as is . They will ruin it make it more like the states. It will be a tourist trap! All the Puerto Ricans in the states all the ones who keep saying they are Puerto Rican but have never visited the island need to start truly worrying about their mother island! This is so sad . I hope it fails !!

I'm guessing for the same reason, important issues are not being plastered in the states, the News Media is control by the very rich, who are the ones buying the land, mostly people from the states. I have even seen videos that recommend they buy as much land as possible in PR, in channels run by "financial people" from the US. If people don't start protesting, they will end up not being able to even buy in house there.

I’m a PROUD Puertorriqueña, who loves her people!!
I have visited PR all my life. Lived there twice; once for 2 years and once for 3 years,
I have always WHOLLY supported - and ALWAYS WILL - the independence of PR!
However, I could never FULLY understand why SO SO many Puertorriqueños there are overcome by colonialist mentality.
Exacerbating this frustration is having faced racism in AmeriKKKa on SO many levels - to then visit Puerto Rico - and witness MY people treat all manner of Anglo foreigners better than they treat their own (who were born in AmeriKKKa through no fault of their own).
Trust me when I say I’m politically conscious and aware enough to understand the “DYNAMICS” - and the “WHY” - of it; but it can still be frustrating.

This story breaks my heart. I'm hoping Puerto Ricans wake up and do something before the land they love is lost and gated from them. Every time these developers build these fancy luxury condos/apartments/housing the average Puerto Rican is left out.

Cuando fui su estudiante dimos la batalla para que no se construyera la incineradora en Arecibo porque afectaba el Caño Tiburones y tuvimos nuestros logros. Quizás pueda evitar esto.

This is why as a Puerto Rican, living and working in the states, bought a house in Salinas, it took me 3 long years because I kept getting outbid by Americans with cash, and losing homes until I finally landed one. Keep fighting!!! Us/PR need to put back our feet on our land!

My wife grew up in Arecibo as a little girl, until her early teens, when she moved back to the States. Her family has been on the island for 100s of years, (her abuela was idigenous,) and so it is her, as well as our son's heritage, (he has video editing skills, by the way - I am but a mere writer.) Therefore to whatever small part of your efforts we could contribute, would be an honor. Many, many blessings in all your endeavors.

Greetings , this makes me angry and I don’t know why or how I never ever been to Puerto Rico even though my pops ancestors came from viegues and Culebra an some parts of mainland I just knew deep down this sorry government has been doing this.. I want to come and move there but just don’t know how to go about it. My familia is divided and that’s sad to me.. but got to start from somewhere . I want to move there and start life and help with the locals and be able to help build and plant and do farming. I'm so sorry for you and your land, I'm Sicilian, I know the pain of being an islander and not have access to our beautiful land. We have the same problem, but all pur coasts have been already occupied by private owners and we can't go to th4 most beautiful beaches here because of it. The last one has been closed this year and that's it. The laws are protecting the ones who broke them

I’m Hawaiian. I just started following you. I share every sentiment, defend your land… there’s no going back once the developers start. Push ecotourism and sustainable tourism, your economy will perish otherwise in the long term.
On my mom's side I'm Puerto Rican n I moved here to Quebradillas bout 20yrs ago. I remember coming here when I was a little kid n there was areas that I played on cuz it was undeveloped land n I loved it so much. It made me so sad that PR has changed so much since I was a little kid. It's being turned into developed land that makes u only thing of the cities in the states. I can't stand it. I may not have been born here but I love PR so much n seeing it turned into a cemented city hurts n makes me angry. Stop destroying our beautiful land. There's more then enough room in the states. Go there n do that and leave PR alone. Stop destroying it. It made me so sad when my mother asked me to bring her to where she was born here n when we got there she cried cuz it has changed so much that she couldn't even find the area she was born in.

But maybe their is hope, 1300 acres of the once 10000 acre area in my back yard, which should have been a state park was spared because the 2008 financial crisis and is now protected. maybe the vicissitudes of the market will spare you

This is heartwrenching. What to do and how to fight? Have you considered reaching out to law firms that fight this? Perhaps reaching out to the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and education Fund? Perhaps they can offer guidance or PR rights groups. Also reminds me of the Vieques land fight.. The local colleges students and professors can also probably help to rally people and activists who can get behind a movement needed to halt the sale. This is disheartening but serves as motivation to fight Great video to get people fired up enough to fight the fight.
