Now at 75 I realize why I have backpain. What a fun song and great dance music.
Haha, The Dance Moves are to blame! Yall was doing a lot of full body dances
I was born in 51 remember this song and still love it.Great vocals and you can’t beat that sax.👍❤️
same for me bro
I grew up with all things Motown and Soul music. Jr. Walker is right up. I mean your mom and I should know good music when we hear it. 😉
"Shotgun" was their biggest hit. It was written by Junior Walker & produced by Berry Gordy Jr. "Shotgun" was Walker's debut as a vocalist because the singer who was hired to record it didn't show up. So Walker stood in.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but both "Shotgun" (1965) and "What Does It Take to Win Your Love" (1969) peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. But "What Does It Take to Win Your Love" remained in the Top Ten a few weeks longer than did "Shotgun," and I think by overall record sales, "What Does It Take to Win Your Love" was actually a bigger hit. Both were great, and "Shotgun" is a landmark hit that certainly put Junior Walker and the All-Stars on the map.
OK son, you just stepped into the 60s, this a mixed crowd gettin' down together, in spite of social problems, this was a much better time in America, but the Vietnam War and Watergate tore the country apart and it's never been the same. This was a huge hit.
Believe me soul, jazz Rythm and blues were enjoyed by everyone. That looks like the television show "Shindig".
I was in Highschool in 65 and we danced to these guys. The Jerk was the name of a dance.
The saxophone is jumping, literally. I love it!
That dance is the jerk. "Do the jerk now." Then the girls are doing the jerk and digging potatoes. They're following the directions of the song.
I was 10 years old in 1965. This was my favorite song at the moment (there was so much coming up) I had 10 brothers and sisters and I would be putting this 45 on and dancing by myself in the living room. Do the jerk baby! 😅
I was also 10 in 1965 and my babysitter would invite all her friends in after my mom left and all the girls would be playing this LOUD and dancing all over the living room and I was made to stay out of the way. But I was only 10, but my little sister and I would be watching and dancing to it in our room.
I'm 68 now and that Sax still gets me up and moving....
It’s that opening sax which gets one on the dance floor every time! 😻🎶
What a GREAT song!
Mom and grandmom had some of the best music. Where do you think the real Soul Train started😂
❤ I was born 1960 and grew up in Chicago. I love the 60's music all my life. ❤
Jr. Walker & the All-Stars made marvelous Motown music that moves the body and the soul.
I'm so glad I was smart enough to go see Jr and the band when they came to town around thirty-five years ago.
Too many times I passed on shows saying I would go "next time" and then it never came.
Yes!! I love this song. This song was a big part of the conception of my second child. It was the late 80s but they were playing oldies and this is one of my favorite songs of all time.
There are two Motown hits that are guaranteed to make you want to get off your seat and get movin' on the dance floor: "Shotgun" by Jr. Walker and the All Stars, and probably my favorite Motown hit of all time, "Dancing In the Street" by Martha and the Vandellas.
It’s funny that all the dancers were in sync, this is some cool 60’s stuff.
Dad’s smiling! This song hits harder than the music I went clubbing to in the 80’s 😂. Hahaha! You’re right! It’s the old school soldier boy! Impossible not to dance to this song. Yep; that girl hasn’t got it; how do you dance off beat to this? Your Mom will love your reaction ❤. 🙏
Another great tune i had on cassette ,still do...LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS
Love this song.
I said shotgun
Shoot 'em for he run now
Do the jerk baby
Do the jerk now
Hey
Put on your red dress
And then you go downtown now
I said buy yourself a shotgun now
We're gonna break it down, baby now
We're gonna load it up, baby now
And then you shoot him for he run now
I said shotgun
Shoot 'em for he run now
Do the jerk baby
Do the jerk now
Hey
Shotgun
Shoot 'em for he run now
Do the jerk baby
Do the jerk now
Hey
Put on your high heel shoes
I said we're goin' down here to listen to 'em play the blues
We're gonna dig potatoes
We're gonna pick tomatoes
I said shotgun
Shoot 'em for he run now
Do the jerk baby
Do the jerk now
Hey
I said it's twine time
I said it's twine time
I said it's twine time
Hey, what'd I say?

The music from my youth , still my favorites
A great song, and just look how much the dancers are enjoying themselves rocking to this music. Enjoyed your reaction. Peace.
I remember this song, great dance song ‼️ Dancing was just starting to change in the sixties just before rock. I honestly couldn't have told you the artists names but the music memory thanks you 🤩
Takes me back to when I was 14.
*Some Soul Music History:* This tune by Jr. Walker and his Allstars was a huge hit reaching number 1 for 4 weeks. It came out at a time when a lot of pop tunes were calling to the latest dance crazes of the day -- (i.e. The Twist, The Jerk, The Monkey, etc.). The airplay radio censors -- who *WOULD* have vetoed the release had they known -- perhaps thought that "Shotgun" was a dance too. It was actually about police brutality, especially the race riots and deadly violence in Watts California that year. The fact that it rose to such a hit is one of the greatest protest song pull-offs of all time. Listen very, very carefully to the lyrics. *Wonderful. Powerful. Subversive. Sublime.*
The movie Tape Heads features Jnr Walker and Sam Cooke, some great music, funny movie.
JR Walker was one of the greatest sax players of all time
I just loved my man’s reaction to this! He’s feelin’ it and grinning ear to ear!😂 This was the groove right here! I just subscribed.
My music too!! Loved Jr Walker and the All Stars!!
Tenor ( The male higher voice). Baratone. and Bass ( The loeet)
Soprano ( high) contralto (middle range)and Alto ( low). are the female ranges.
Love a great sax solo. They can make a song.
Speaking of a sax.....look into *The Average White Band" doing * "Pick Up The Pieces"
* Wild Cherry "Play That Funky Music ( White Boy)"
*K.C. And The Sunshine Band. " I'm Your Boogie Man"
Really enjoy your channel.
Your Mom has great taste!💕
I think so too! lol
I'll beg to differ with you about popular music. Popular music *IS* the soundtrack to the lives of the people who grew up listening to it. Consider: In 1965 when Jr. Walker and the All-Stars had "Shotgun" on the Top 40 charts, the week it entered the Top 10 at #10, and shared the top ten with these other 9 hits: #1-"Eight Days A Week" by the Beatles; #2-"Stop In the Name of Love" by the Supremes, #3-"The Birds and the Bees" by Jewel Akens, #4-"King of the Road" by Roger Miller, #5-"Can't You Hear My Heartbeat" by Herman's Hermits, #6-"Ferry Cross the Mersey" by Gerry and the Pacemakers, #7-"My Girl" by the Temptations, #8-"This Diamond Ring" by Gary Lewis and the Playboys, and #9-"Goldfinger" by Shirley Bassey. Ask anyone who was alive in musically aware in 1965 and they'll tell you two things: (a.) that every one of those songs is a landmark hit that left a lasting impression, and (b.) that 1965 was one of the greatest years EVER for popular music.
And it most definitely was the soundtrack of our lives that year.
Love this. I was born in 1951, incidentally.
Ah…..now that’s music. Got a good beat that you can dance to…takes me back!
This is in my top 5 best song ever list.
Totally agree with your music of the decade theory.
I think I would like your Mama. We are about the same age with similar tastes in music. I'm sure she would love to see you react to this. Then she would know for certain that she raised you right.
Calvin O.Smith III That Is My Name I Was On Oct 25,1964 In Denver Colorado!
Great song
❤❤The Best!!❤❤
My favorite was road runner by Jimmy Walker and the All stars
Goooood music!!
welcome to our world
1965 That Was Funky!
If you look at all the music of the 60's regardless of the race of the artist there was a raw unadulterated talent that transiented race, color, and creed.
Great song ☮️ one of the go go dancers is afraid of falling off the podium
listen to Take it easy(liu grace) it's pretty good
Ramsey Lewis. ‘in Crowd’
❤
That ain't your momma's music. That's music for anyone that got some serious soul. Funkin on out no matter what generation.
I agree with the 2nd half of your statement, but the 1st half "That ain't your momma's music" all I meant was this was her generations music
@@MugnifyRTS sorry, didn't mean it in a bad way. It is her generation and mine. Just saying it goes to every generation cause it's so good but keep doing what you're doing. Great music and great reactions.
Girl on the left was doing the Jerk, girl on the right was doing the Pony
Please check out Six to Rodriguez, a Detroit musician popular in South Africa, died this week. A movie was made about him called Searching for Sugar Man.
Your moms gotta nice collection if this is your moms music
Cosby Show music !! 🤔
They've got go-go girls in cages!!
Go Go girls were always in cages in the 60s.
It seemed totally normal then.
I was a teen back then.
Now that I'm 69 now and wonder why the cages??? LOL. LOL
YOUR MOM WAS COOL,
With all due respect, sir, that is "the shotgun". 😄
DooWop was very popular during 60's and 70's
where there different branches of DooWop? because this feels like something else
@@MugnifyRTSDoowap started in the 50s. Great music
@@MugnifyRTS This is not Doo Wop. Soul, R&B, Motown if you must classify it.
DooWop was an East Coast sound. really north east in the 50's and 60's, it seems all the music from the late 50's going into the 60's and 70's was a mix of every kind of style and we loved it, I say we because I included myself being from the generation that were born between 1946 and 1964, it was a hell of a ride....
