Yes the dancing girls above the stage are go-go dancers.
Yes The Jerk was a dance your grandmother did before she found the rocking chair.
Yes Jr. Walker & the AllStars still sound perfectly funky and great today.
Yes your grandmother knew how to party before you were even born.
Yes I recommended Jr. Walker & the AllStars for your reaction and I'm really happy you found them.
The next banger to hear is "What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)?"
and speaking as a 4X grandmother, I can still dance and party, nudge, nudge, wink, wink!! Don't ever think grey hair means we've forgotten how to enjoy life and ALL it has to offer.
I was doing “the jerk”, I’m a grandmother but I ain’t in a rocking chair...thank you and take a seat!
I’ve been asking for that too but the live version which is in B&W.
@JoAnne Richards, I resemble that remark!😎😎😎😎
Man I remember doing all those, esp. the Pony. lol And when the music is right I can still get down. Even when it embarrasses my great nieces and nephews. LOL Fun side of life.
Jr Walker and the all stars are from the Motown sound and made amazing Motown music. When you think of Motown you think about Marvin Gaye The Supremes Stevie Wonder The Temptations The Marvelettes, however Jr walker and the all-stars get skipped over when they made some of the biggest hits for Motown DEFINITELY check out their music.
You guys should know...Jr.s post-Motown career was great..He played sax for, Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon",LP, Foreigner's "Urgent", and Rick James "You and I ", among others...The man could blow!!
Jr. Walker was the bomb in the 60s. Dance music!!! But...you need to play studio versions.
They sound really good live but yes, studio versions always before live versions.
I’m pretty sure they pick the live versions because they’re slightly different than the studio versions, which would be taken down immediately.
You guys are awesome playing this music I grew up on
Get hold of These Eyes by Jr Walker you love love songs you'll definitely love this one
Roadrunner, what does it take:. Junior walker was pure magic. Actually, journey and Herbie Hancock did a great version of junior walkers roadrunner on the midnight special, what a Jam.
"What does it take " is another fantastic song by this band!
They're doing the Jerk ,The Pony, The Twine.Yes The Shotgun was a dance. The twist also was in.The Monkey,The Boogaloo,The Filly,The Swim.Soooooo many dances.
Wearing your hip hugger pants, and mini skirts, with your high heel shoes and dancing all night, having fun.
We had the best music and dancing was a release from all the stress of the times.
Jr. Walker and the All Stars was a blast. To be able to play the sax and sing too took some energy. They rocked the building. That organ and sax was like an invitation to get on the floor.
Absolutely right. Don't forget the grind lol!!!!
And then the Philly Dog, Shing-a-Ling, Skate, Mashed pPotatoes, Locomotion and on and on.
What Does It Take, from them, Great Sax!!
Me too "What Does it Take? is my favorite this one too!
Love it!!
I knew the ladies would be all in❗👍
Don’t let them act all innocent, Grandma and Grandpa got down with their bad self! They don’t want us to know shhhhh…..
Hey I'm 76 and we are still doing it
Feb. 1965!!Huge HIT The Jerk was a big dance at that time.
Jr. Walker was the James Brown of Motown. He took funk and soul with a little bit of blues to Motown. But unfortunately he hasn't received any recognition for his talent like the rock and roll hall of fame or a Grammy.
The sixties are where today's music, wishes it could be!
Junior Walker & The All Stars were definitely the funkiest Motown act.
“What does it take” is another great one of their songs.
There was a ton of dancing in the 60s-the 60s had more different types of dance than any decade-every month had a new dance craze-Twist, frug, the popeye, slop, mashed Potatoes, Jerk, boomerang, the swim, the pony, the madison-just to name a few.
My big brother was 21, I was 12...we had parties like this at my parent's house. Took the furniture and rug out of the dining room and turned on THIS album. Junior!! Everyone danced. So much fun. 👍
When I was a kid, everybody in my family and in my neighborhood shouted out this song.
That's right, we did The Jerk!!
"What does it take" by Junior Walker was my getting ready to go out song - fabulous.
I cannot believe you've never heard this classic before!!!!!! Get up and DANCE!
This was one of my top 10 favorites in 1965. You've gotta listen to the studio version ... it's a little bit slower, and there's more build-up with Junior Walker's sax. LOVE IT!!!!
this is what real dancing looks like
how great it would have been to be able to go back in time and be a part of that.
I was an 8 year old learning the dance 🕺 moves from my aunts and uncles. Great music, in great times!
Thank you! Been waiting for this one!
just like that at the school dance 66, 67.... dont forget California Sun by the Rivieras for more good dancing
What would my life be if I never had Jr Walker and Shotgun in my life? Junior Walker and King Curtis the tops of many great sax players of the 60s.
I was just a kid when this hit came out in the 60's. But I am so glad that I had the opportunity to see them perform live in San Francisco in the early 90's. Even though they were getting up in age, they gave the most fire performance! At a local club on Divisadero Street called The Box.
The best dancers were in the 40's and 50's. Especially during the swing music era. If you like this song you need to hear "Cool Jerk" by the Capitols and "Function at the Junction" by Shorty Long.
Love this!!!!
Are you kidding me? The 60,'s and 70's flatout ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!
You should been then (there).
Go-go dancers & cage dancers any day over a mosh pit.
Party in the 60 s.??????😂😂😂The 60 s was one of the coolest decades. That song was huge most all of that decade. Everyone loved it ! It jolted you up on the floor immediately. Then you just had to dance to it really hard because ……. well , the music just made you!😂😂😂👍🔥🔥🔥
Jr Walker was fantastic. Give What Does it Take to Win Your Love a listen. I saw him at a club in town and he was so good, the crowd wouldn't let him leave the stage! So, he played an extra 30 minutes. Great music back in the day!
This is what we called JUKE-JOINT music back in the day. BOOKER T and THE MG'S was another fav. of that era.
This was one of my Father’s favorite songs; I remember funkin and grooving to this in the living room as a kid when he’d play the album; Dad had great taste in music ❤️. “What Does It Take” and “Roadrunner” next!
Thanks for reacting to this, it made my day!
I live in The San Francisco Bay Area. If you went down Broadway in San Francisco, in the 60s, in some areas of that street there were a lot of topless bars, etc. and in front of some there were go go dancers in those glass cages dancing, some close to topless. This was to bring people in the bars. I have to say this caused a lot of traffic jams especially on the weekends.
I was there then and it was great
My hubby’s all time favorite song! He was fortunate to see him years ago! It’s his ringtone on his phone even!😁😁
You should check out WHAT DOES IT TAKE by them!
Love y'all's reaction, and selection of songs. I've been thinking about it and have concluded that one reason the music back then sounds so good relative to now is for a few reasons. Back then, everything about the process was expensive, and so you had to be committed and serious. Today, anyone can tinker around and get it online, so there is a whole lot of garbage, which makes the gold shine the more brightly, by contrast. Mind expansion and loving one another were the main themes, in contrast to so much today. So the world needs your positive energy, and music. Dancing is always better than fighting. Peace & Love.
Can’t believe you guys didn’t know about these dudes! This was the begging of Funk! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Those are you grandparents making those moves!🤔😂
These guys were a HOT group back in the 60s. If you like this song you will love their hit song "Gotta Hold on to this Feeling". Love your reaction to this song.
Very good singer, sax. My favorite is What does it take to win yr Love! I rank that as one of the greatest songs ever. I appreciate all the good songs you react to!!
This is a must at my parties!!! The JAM!
This song is so full of fire even hard rock stations played it well into the eighties. The studio recording captures their live energy while sounding so much better. And Jimi Hendrix played guitar for them for a short while too before going on to his solo career.
Couldn't sit still when that song came on. Jr.Walker. And James Brown music got you out of your seat too !
I was 10 years old and I remember buying this record for $1... and I wore it out ...57 years ago! can you believe that?
Yeah, I can. With my weekly pocket money, I'd buy a 45 (here in the UK) and play it over and over again on my little record player doing the frug or whatever the funky dance was at the time. Mind you, I think I've still got some of the moves....ha ha. Robert, 73.
Yes that’s how we boogied !! These guys got the party going along with the go go dancers & their music is fantastic 🎶🇨🇦💜🇨🇦
You two look fantastic & thanks for your reaction ❣️
That was a back in the day energy level. I used to play in a band with James Brown's drummer, Early Johnson. The clubs we hit back then were so wild it was electrifying. Groove was the thing. Get out your body was the vibe. Shakin and whoopin. Movin like the whole room was alive. End to end, wall to wall FUNK. Man I miss it.
Yup, that's how we did The Jerk
Im 75 and in the sixties there were dances in the summer almost every night in clubs or teen clubs. Never had to wonder what to do always a dance somewhere good times.
I love cleaning the house to this song! Thanks for sharing.
Heard this song on a bus to driver’s training in 10th grade, some boy’s had a radio behind me. LoL! I love the song…1965!👍👏👏👏💙♥️🌹
There were alot of dance crazes in the 60's and there were many hit songs about those dances, the Shotgun being one of them.
We did party hard back then and loved that song and the dances were know as the Jerk,The monkey, the twine all done here in variations.Loved it ❤️👍👍👍
Jr walker & the All Stars. We boggied down in the 60ths on that song. Shotgun was a dance, the jerk was a dance, at the in of the song he was saying twine time that was a dance. He has a lot of great hits; by the way he was from my home town in Arkansas.
Check out "Wishing On A Star", this was a beautifully done jam by Jr. Walker in 1979.
Yes, Shotgun! Yes we all partied big back then! Throw in some sax and a Hammind organ and great vocals and go!
I can see where it says A GO GO in the background, I'm assuming that's the old Hollywood a go-go T.V. show. And yes those are Go-Go Dancers!! Junior Walker "What does it Take" is another incredible song...
What Does It Take by Jr Walker&The AllStars. ....my favorite!
OMG, my teen years. This sing was huge!!
No. Sitting. Nope!! Dance we did!!❤
What Does It Take To Win Your Love? is even a bigger BANGER! PLEASE!
Jr Walker=. What Does It To Win Your Love‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
I did some powerful writhing around on the dance floor back in the day. Bring on the memories.
Gerald LeVert sang that song SHOTGUN and killed it. That was the jam back then rocking the HOUSE. Stella was dancing to it in How Stella got her Groove back.
Yes we danced like that... and I never had to hit the gym. Fun way to exercise and we didn't even know it. Just having fun.
We can get down! From sun up and down!! It not that’s no more!! Fun and having good times !!
Used to dance to this song all the time back in the day
The swinging 60's, great music guys.
Here it is!!! Wow , showing my age but it's OK. I remember my mama and her sisters ( my aunts) dancing to this back in day with these specific dance moves. Listing to this on a 45 on the Hi-fi system.
Do you see my love for you growing is my favorite Jr. Walker. Followed by shoot your shot.
You got it Shawn, Fridays was about getting ready to go out and dance. But it wasn't so much about partying. "Partying" had a different meaning and connotation back then. It just meant going to a party. At least for my crowd of friends, parties were something adults had, young ones had dances and hops, it was all about the music and the dance. You danced all night. You had to be in good shape too! Boy were you glad when a slow one came on. During the week you practiced the dances in front of the mirror in your bedroom. But by the 80's things changed and there were not that many dances to go to and you were forced to go to a "club" to dance. That changed everything. Took away some of the innocence as clubs had cover charges, and alcohol and different vibes. Many of the dancers got into roller skating or ice skating at that time and skating rinks really took off in the 80's as a place to hear and roller dance to the latest music. Glutz that I am, I could never catch on and soon my dancing days dwindled away as I grew older.
60's and 70's soul music, nothing else comes close lol :)
i had this 45 record and i wore the grooves off it. i'm 63 now and i still give it a wiggle now and then.
Way Back Home is a great song by them.
We had a damn good time back then! I still get down, the music moves me.
The venue is the world-famous Whiskey-a-Go-Go Club. There were always dancers up in the cages. This song names many of the popular dances of the time. Meant to get the body movin'.
We had a pleace to go and dance to our music and dance our butt off so great it was a church centered that was for teenage to go on Friday nights pay dollors. 5:01 Pop,and danceing . 8:00 - 10: 30..
This is one of those dance shows I have talked about in the 60's we were all about dancing and you are watching some classic go go dancing. Dancers had the fringe dresses and go go boots. We were bad 🎂😎🎉
Love the song and I play it all the time.....
My mom and granny showed us how they danced to this song and I am here to tell ya they could get down !!
So , what did Jr Waker mean in the lyrics....Shoot em fore he run now ?
I put those same words on a tee shirt I had....LMAO...great conversation pc
I was actually referring to my abusive husband who ran like a jack rabbit when I learned to shoot a gun really good....haha....so the tee-shirt was born....
And the oldie song became my song
60s one of my favorite groups as a teen 💖
Got me Cosby dancing this beautiful Saturday morning
this shit had me dancing back in my short pants days!!!!
if ya ain't grooving get off the bus.
It's allways a big suprise to find out people came before US & they actually knew how to party. Jeez, what a concept!🤠
Yes! We did at sock-hops and house party we jerked our little hearts out at sock- hops or house parties, bar-b-ques pick one.
Yes, They were called "Go Go Dancers"
This is what we did. We danced and had fun. Music was fun and romantic.
This song reminds of my late uncle dancing with one of his girlfriend. Autry DeWalt Mixon Jr.(7/14/1931-11/23/1995) from South Bend Indiana was a multi-instrumentalist for Motown during the 60's also he performed with band Foreigner in the 80's. His hits include "SHOTGUN","(I'M A) ROADRUNNER","HOW SWEET IT IS"(TO BE LOVED BY YOU)","COME SEE ABOUT ME".
So great ... we need this
Do you realize that in 300 years this song will be among the classical music repertoire?
This is a clip from the old 60's TV show, either "Shindig" or "Hulabaloo". Both shows featured current bands and singers. Both had go-go dancers. Had me a pair of the short white boots!!! Both shows came on at night in primetime. Couldn't always get home in time to watch American Bandstand in the afternoons or Soul Train on Saturdays. There was also another music show called, "Where the Action Is" which featured Freddy (Boom Boom) Cannon and Paul Revere and the Raiders (featuring Mark Lindsey). Jr. Walker and the AllStars were a great group!! Check out more by them!!
Jr. walker was one of the best sax players
You'd love the "Land of a Thousand Dances."
If you guys have ever watched MalcomX . This was played in that movie. Before my time, but I love it. Lovely guys reaction,
My mom was showing me how to do "the shotgun". All it is is to take your two thumbs and index fingers as if they were a shotgun to the sides of the body one at a time. And they were doing the jerk (not "you're a jerk"). Basically you move your arms back and forth to the beat of the song. But watch the back cuz if you do it too hard.....you know 😊 just concentrate on dancing with the upper back instead of the middle and lower.
That's what they did back there they worked hard during the week and they played harder during the weekend Plus it helps them to relieve all that stress and tension for what they've been going through all week
We did the jerk so hard our muscles were sore😂😂😂
Dance Shoes have straps to hold them on ya feet. Some don't but they are fitted. Great Choice you guys. 👍 🔥 We danced the whole time as we were kids when this was on the radio. Forgot about the GoGo Girls.... 💘
Mel,we invented the party😂😂
Great old Funky dancing song from 1965 or 66, I think. I was in High School, and about to go off to war in Vietnam. Man, the music was so damn good in those days. If this doesn't make you want to Dance, then you got no soul.
