I grew up on Pokemon....1998 playing Pokemon Blue/yellow on my gameboy, watching Pokemon the anime, seeing Mewtwo strikes back in theaters, and then I saw this movie and I always remembered that distinct melody from the beginning of Lugia's theme For over a decade I had it in my head....it's haunting, it's sad, it's glorious....it's a beautiful song

I'm 32 too. This song is still as beautiful as it was when I was just an 11 year old playing a gameboy advanced and watching this movie on a VHS with my brother after school. You must be an awesome person.
I’m 31 and this is still one of my favorite songs. I taught myself to play it on the flute when I was a child and I played it all the time. Every once in awhile I’ll put the movie on and my husband watches it with me.

Agreed, which is why even though it's my favorite legendary, and all these other form changes are cool, primals, mega rayquaza/mewtwo, Dialga and Palkia finally getting origin forms like their brother... I don't want it, especially after Paradox Suicune, I love dinosaurs, I love Suicune 2nd favorite legendary... I hate them together. Lugia and Ho-Oh are perfect as is, and Lugia was meant for just the movie, it'd be an insult to give Lugia a form change too different. I could see primals maaaybe because they just get bigger and glowier, but... no Lugia is perfect as is, whether it's strong or not. Then sadly by extension being its counter part also means no Ho-Oh changes, but it too is perfectly fine as is design wise.

First time I heard this song 20+ years ago during the movie, it gave me chills to my bones. And it still does not disappoint. Still have chills to this day listening to it. Amazing masterpiece.
This was my comfort song when I lost my grandpa on 2001. He was a lot closer to me than my dad. Spent the majority of my time with him as a child. I was grief stricken and this gave me comfort.
+Cyqoza Yeah. The story line for each season is also very similar to the last. The in between episodes are mostly fillers from what I remember. I watch BW and some XY and then gave up on the newer series and stuck with the old ones.
I will never forget Lugia's song, or the creator. The more I've learned about him.. the more I feel like we are weirdly similar.. down to his methods of inspiration. A beautiful soul that most will never know, and I have a feeling he's okay with that, as long as people get to hear and see his creation.
@Z_K772 first: i'm not a femminist Second: it was revealed by Takeshi Shudo, creator of Lugia and writer of the movie, that e wanted Lugia to be a female because it was ment to represent the sea and for him the sea is a woman. Then it was forced to put away this idea because according to The Pokémon Company "a female legendary won't appeal to the audience" and they also wanted it to look imposing and powerfull (this is also the reason why lugia is a Psychic type, because psychic was the most op type at the time btw) and this is why it was voice acted by a male. Not manage to make Lugia a female was one of the biggest regrets in Shudo's life untill he died.
This song doesn't get to me because it's nostalgic. It gets to me because it's a masterpiece with the perfect blend of mystery and victory. It's a song which just screams hope from the bottom of the ocean. Or at least the ocean of tears I just made because this song is just *so fucking beautiful.*
That's true. I really can't explain how I feel but this empowers me every time I'm down. Whenever I feel down, this Pokémon theme will keep you rising up in the depth of the sea.
This song alone is enough to quell any and all fighting, it’s that majestic, calming, and peaceful feeling. I remember watching this movie when I was very young.
this is why my nostalgia for Lugia is bigger than for Ho-Oh, not only was the design awesome but the movie was pure awesome. This music really gives you the feeling of how mysterious yet epic Lugia was.
Ì always likes Lugia a HUNDRED Times mor than Ho-Oh....mostly because Ho-Oh is da STUPID Name and i like Silver as a Couloure more than Gold. But mostly because of this song.
I like Ho-Oh more, too bad it didnt get a movie. Unless I missed it haha. Though this has to be my favourite pokemon movie, next to the one with Entei.
I’ve always been a fan of Ho-Oh more than Lugia, probably because I got Gold and Heart Gold instead of Silver/Soul Silver and got attached to the beautiful birb. And hey! It finally got a movie- the new Pokémon movie ‘I Choose You’ is centered around Ho-Oh.

I still remember when this movie was in theaters. Fruit by the Foot had Pokemon on it's packaging, and I always wanted to eat the ones with Lugia on the wrapper.
I used to listen to this song to relax as a kid to help me fall asleep (I have anxiety, autism and mild narcolepsy on top of that) and this song was one of the ones that ALWAYS helped me calm down enough to sleep when I was a kid after it came out! It was always one of my favorites and I could recite the entire movie from memory!
Lugia is the most memorable legendary pokemon in due no small part to this song. Mewtwo had more story, and supposedly more power, but Lugia was majestic and when he emerged from the ocean, you could physically feel the presence.
truly one of the greatest pokemon ever created, even now he holds my spot as most favourite pokemon. Was 10 when i saw this and still gives me chills when he rushes out of the sea.
@@xxargonautxx9790 Pokemon Silver was my first ever main series Pokemon game because of this movie, it honestly made me love Lugia as a Pokemon, and to this day it remains as my favorite Legendary Pokemon of all time.
In my opinion the most beautiful piece of music to ever come from from the Pokemon universe and I say that as someone who has been there since day 1 lol
to me the beginning is incredibly sad like witnessing a great hero struck down by an arrow to the back but as the song picks up the hero rises to his feet and carries on and completes his task to save the world and then as the song grows mournful again towards the end the hero falls for the last time but without an ounce of regret in his heart knowing he did all he could and just maybe the world will be at peace.
"Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice or lightning Lest these titans wreck destruction upon the world in which they clash Though the water's great guardian shall rise to quell the fighting Alone its song will fail, thus the earth shall turn to ash Oh, the chosen one Into thine hands bring together all three The treasures combined tame the beast of the sea."
I swear Pokemon the 2. movie was the best of all. After 22 years Lugia is still my favorite Pokemon of all time. I felt the story and the characters so much in the older movies. They were long and unique with a great tribute to legendary Pokemons. Majestic music! I love Lugia! I love the old Pokemon movies and games!
I know... I'm looking at colleges right now :/ It's weird how one day you're waking up, it's your 6th Christmas, and your brother has gotten you Pokemon Ruby, and the next day you're walking out the door.
You know, this is the ONLY song/composition that has brought me to tears. It takes a lot of skill to pull that off. And if the composer was still alive today, I'd shake his hand.
I used to hear this song constantly when i was a kid. It sorta haunted me in the best way possible. Always thought Lugia was watching over me, the skies and the sea.
When I was a little boy, my first pet cat died. I was very close to her, she was my best buddy, and she'd been there my whole life next to my side, like my own little Pikachu. The day after she passed away, I was in my room alone, listening tot this soundtrack. When this song came on, I started weeping. Something about this song is so emotional. It's beautiful. I'm in my late 20's now, and I still think this is just beautiful. Pokemon music was really special.
I remember when i was five, watching this film and only thinking "i love pokemon" now, with 20, i watch the films, play the games and i still say i will love pojemon forever, and i will make it world!!! ヽ(`⌒´)ノ
Def my favorite Pokemon movie, partly because of this song and when it shows up at the end of the movie. There is a solid 4 minutes without a single line of spoken dialogue, and it's absolutely perfect. The movie just lets you sit back and enjoy the recovery of the 4 legendary Pokemon and their unified flight without any distractions.
tbf, in the show they were truly considered a legendary pokemon and they could scale and size them to make them feel completely awesome, huge, majestic, etc. Where the games had a rather limited size and space for them so they just felt like bigger, stronger pokemon.
i remember watching this for the first time. this movie was epic. i don't really care all that much for Pokemon nowadays but this theme leaves me almost speechless every time.
If there is one thing Pokémon seems to be amazing in with their movies, its composing the legend's themes. Even if the movies aren't the best, the music just hammers into your skull and refuses to leave.
this song... together with Oracion from Darkrai's movie... these 2 song always bring tears to my eyes. Whenever i feel down, i can listen to them for hours. I really love them. They're really beautiful and have beautiful meanings too. I'm glad i'm living in the time where these 2 came out and that i can enjoy them even years after they came out.
You and me both. I taught myself how to play both of these songs on my flute and would play them when I needed a little pick-me-up. I truly believe these songs have healing properties in them and that's what makes them so unique and bring us such feelings
@@omeletteemily932 that's really amazing. Being able to play them yourself is really cool. I know what you mean, when i have a tough time, i end up going to the songs out of nowhere and i end up playing them on youtube. Before i know it, the day has ended and i'm still listening to it. I really just love how it sounds.
It feels like forever since I last heard this song. Pokémon has always given me these fantastic memories and I’ll always hold the series near and dear to my heart.
When I was 8 years old, I had an old ocarina that my brother made for me in our garage. He passed away 3 weeks later in a car accident by the freeway near our home. Another 8 years later(or more so, 9 days ago when it was the 8th anniversary of his death.) I dusted off the little orange ocarina which still had the picture of me and him taped to the top of it. For the first time in 8 years I tried out that little old toy, and sang this song in honor of my brother who was just as big a Pokémon fan as I am. As soon as the song ended, a shooting star crossed the sky above my head and a gust of wind was blown towards me. It was the most blessed moment of reconnection I’ve ever felt. Thank you, Lugia.
That is one of the most beautiful stories I’ve heard. And yeah this song really affected a lot of us in our childhood. I remember my daycare field trip to the movie to see it and it was amazing.
My God this fucking music is the most powerful soundtrack I've ever heard in any of the movies... even to this day. It never fails to reduce me... a grown man of 26 to tears, and as a kid who grew up in the 90s this is one of the most blessed throwbacks I've ever had the joy of experiencing. Thank you, thank you so much. I'll never forget my first time watching this and the First Movie.
I can totally share your feelings to this song. Nowadays, Im 17 years old and mabye one of the last kids with a technic-free childhood....This song makes me dreaming about the past.
26 here. I remember back then I would cry whenever this song appears. It’s just too beautiful, even when the quality of video was not as good as now, this movie is just unforgettable
This song leaves me speechless every time I listen to it, and moves me greatly. It is one of the greatest masterpieces of Pokémon music overall, and few can rival the beauty this song holds. Even if this was not a song from Pokémon, that take little, if any, from it. And it is the main reason Lugia is among my favorite Pokémon of all time. Apologies if it seems like I am being over dramatic about a song, but it is one of my favorite songs in general. And music is such a blessing to us.
"Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice or lightning, lest these titans wreak destruction upon the world in which they clash. Though the water's great guardian shall arise to quell the fighting, alone its song will fail, thus the earth shall turn to ash. Oh, Chosen One. Into thine hands bring together all three. Their treasure combined, tame the Beast of the Sea."
+Ulricc Silber "From the trio of islands, ancient spheres shall you take. For between life and death, all the difference you'll make." "Climb to the shrine to right what is wrong. And the world shall be healed by the guardian's song."
I still rewatch the movie from time to time in my personal theatre, to relive the nostalgia. I also have the official novelization of it too, which has some hidden details and dialogue that weren't in the movie.
I was only 8 when this came out and this has to have been my favorite movie in the series. This still stands as quite possibly the most beautiful track Pokémon has produced. And the triumphant air it takes while retaining its beauty.... It's just.... Amazing.
Eh... I don't think Bob would be a good choice either... Why not Barry? I hear that name is... *BARRY* good. **Gently swings wine glass in a circular motion** MMMMMMMMMMMM YES **Laughs like a **_True_** gentleman**
This may be too sentimental, but hearing this song brought back a wave of happy childhood memories. I'm realizing just how much of a bastard Alzheimer's is, because I'd hate to forget even something beautifully simple like this song.
I’m trying to brace myself for Ash’s departure in the anime in the coming months. I found myself coming here to remember how amazing he was taming the beast of the sea. One of the many victories and achievements he was able to do. Ash Ketchum is a hero through and through. Will miss him.
This brings me right back to my childhood. Watching and loving this on VHS on my parents old school thick TV, not having a care in the world except which of my favourite shows and movies I would watch next. Goddamn I'm getting emotional right now
Just stumbled upon this… and now I have chills. Pokémon has been a part of my life since six years old and I’m still playing the main games at 30. Pokémon will be with me for life.
I'm 34 years old and I remember watching this film in the cinema when I was first released in 2020. I cried then when this song played, and now, 24 years later, I still cry. So much emotion in this one track, and this film got me through my formative years as a fosterkid. Good memories, bad memories, this song got me through it all.

20 years later and I'm still in tears. ;-;
NotoriousBroadcasts it came out in 2000????
Yes sir it did - Pokemon the Movie 2000, "The power of one"
So???? How are you in tears in 20 years when it's only been 16
Because when you get as old as I am, you start counting your time in rounded decades. XD
Lol
First time I heard this song 20+ years ago during the movie, it gave me chills to my bones. And it still does not disappoint. Still have chills to this day listening to it. Amazing masterpiece.
This was my comfort song when I lost my grandpa on 2001. He was a lot closer to me than my dad. Spent the majority of my time with him as a child. I was grief stricken and this gave me comfort.
I miss the times when Misty and Brock were around.
that's why the show is failing now. their only using protagonists (and siblings) now
+Cyqoza Yeah. The story line for each season is also very similar to the last. The in between episodes are mostly fillers from what I remember. I watch BW and some XY and then gave up on the newer series and stuck with the old ones.
+TheDogTamers xyz is really good
+Nitin Chetla I lie the older series. The Pokemon put in X Y and Z where good. I liked the game too but I just don't like the anime.
They tried turning Cilan into Brock.

If this song had magical properties, I feel like it could heal the wounds of people. Both physical and mental.
Absolutely. This song restored Lugia from the brink of death and gave him the will to fight on, definitely a healing song for mind and body.
Totally nailed. This music is healing...
This is true. In fact, it's basically the Pokemon Version of the Song of Healing.
It also sounds a LOT better, too.
Damn, I believe and need some of that.

Your Lugia still become a true meaning of Legendary Pokemon until today
Yes when legendaries were like one in a million, couldn’t be catched, had the power to affect the terrain, and were respected.
I will never forget Lugia's song, or the creator.
The more I've learned about him.. the more I feel like we are weirdly similar.. down to his methods of inspiration.
A beautiful soul that most will never know, and I have a feeling he's okay with that, as long as people get to hear and see his creation.
I don't know what makes me more sad: the fact that it's not a female or the fact that it's not a water tipe
@Z_K772 first: i'm not a femminist
Second: it was revealed by Takeshi Shudo, creator of Lugia and writer of the movie, that e wanted Lugia to be a female because it was ment to represent the sea and for him the sea is a woman.
@Z_K772 k
This song doesn't get to me because it's nostalgic. It gets to me because it's a masterpiece with the perfect blend of mystery and victory. It's a song which just screams hope from the bottom of the ocean. Or at least the ocean of tears I just made because this song is just *so fucking beautiful.*

It's got a bit of American patriotic music in it.
This music can heal your pain, end your depression, shine your darkness, change your mood, fill you with memories

That's true. I really can't explain how I feel but this empowers me every time I'm down. Whenever I feel down, this Pokémon theme will keep you rising up in the depth of the sea.

Why do I feel that Oracion from the Darkrai film was inspired by this.
@@LockeLynx It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

this is why my nostalgia for Lugia is bigger than for Ho-Oh, not only was the design awesome but the movie was pure awesome. This music really gives you the feeling of how mysterious yet epic Lugia was.
Victini my dad hates ho-oh too colorful
Mh wait... oh hey, Victini, you are a Pokemon, how do you write?!
Even if you haven’t watched the movie the song still can heal you
It's amazing how a song with no lyrics can express so much emotion and tell such an amazing story.

It was always one of my favorites and I could recite the entire movie from memory!
Lugia is the most memorable legendary pokemon in due no small part to this song. Mewtwo had more story, and supposedly more power, but Lugia was majestic and when he emerged from the ocean, you could physically feel the presence.

Tears of Life .- MewTwo
Tears of life and this. 👍
Uhhmm a meeting and parting though
The beginning is so soothing and clam. I imagine just sitting on the beach on a summer night under the moonlight.
to me the beginning is incredibly sad like witnessing a great hero struck down by an arrow to the back but as the song picks up the hero rises to his feet and carries on and completes his task to save the world and then as the song grows mournful again towards the end the hero falls for the last time but without an ounce of regret in his heart knowing he did all he could and just maybe the world will be at peace.
You sir/madam are very imaginative. Kudos to you for having such a vivid imagination in today's society
When Boromir was hit with multiple arrows.
"Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice or lightning
Lest these titans wreck destruction upon the world in which they clash
Though the water's great guardian shall rise to quell the fighting
Alone its song will fail, thus the earth shall turn to ash
Oh, the chosen one
Into thine hands bring together all three
The treasures combined tame the beast of the sea."
The world shall turn to ash the chosen one
I swear Pokemon the 2. movie was the best of all. After 22 years Lugia is still my favorite Pokemon of all time. I felt the story and the characters so much in the older movies. They were long and unique with a great tribute to legendary Pokemons.

Even years later, there’s just something to this song and series that brings us back.
Facts: The anime always did a better job is showing the legendaries in pretty much everything than in the games.
tbf, in the show they were truly considered a legendary pokemon and they could scale and size them to make them feel completely awesome, huge, majestic, etc. Where the games had a rather limited size and space for them so they just felt like bigger, stronger pokemon.
If you watched the relatively recent heatran episode, you know that this is true

If there is one thing Pokémon seems to be amazing in with their movies, its composing the legend's themes. Even if the movies aren't the best, the music just hammers into your skull and refuses to leave.
