Hi everyone 😀 Do you have any tips on what to do in Amsterdam? Things that are perhaps slightly off the beaten track. Please share them in the comments below for the subscribers/viewers of this channel. Thank you!
I am very pleasantly surprised with these tips :) As a Dutchie, these are in fact places I have visited and liked in Amsterdam ^^ I might add cultural events in the Westerpark/Westergasfabriek (good combo with 't Schip), de Hallen, EYE (partly for the architecture and the view) and with kids I think I'd go to NEMO. Oh and we rarely leave without a visit to Waterstones (good recommendations) and the ABC, but those are so central I guess book lovers would be hard pressed to not notice them.
You should try the real street museum in the center of Amsterdam, parallel to the Kalverstraat there is a glass roofed street, called Gedempte Begijnensloot, at the end of the open air street there are some glass sliding doors with a museum guard. You can still walk through (free access) and you are in an exhibition of 17th century paintings hanging on the brick walls of houses in the street. When you saw all the apintings, you exit the sliding glass doors at the other end and you step into the Sint Luciensteeg (open air alley) with some beautiful ceramic facing stones in the brick walls, artworks on itself. Both are for the public, free of charge. Left and right you have alleyways and gates to the Amsterdam Museum, which used to be free for the public. Don’t know if they still are, but certainly worth a try. It is in the neighborhood of the Begijnenhof with the English Reformed Church Roman Catholics Begijnhofkapel (chapel). The Begijnenhof is a sereen and enclosed courtyard, with in the left corner one of the oldest houses. The Begijnenhof is accessible from 9.30 to 18.00 every day, the entrance/gate is at Spui. So you can stay a whole morning of afternoon in the same part of the city center.
Thank you for your very detailed comment here. I shall definitely look this one up, plus I have been meaning to check out The Begijnenhof for ages too :)
