Kristi has a better triple-triple than the Ladies from USA currently
one of Kristi's strengths is not broadcasting her jumps (i.e. her pre-jump preparation time is the least out of all female skaters). she really fills her program with so much content. That takes technical skill
Agreed 100%!!!!!!
They actually taught correct technique back then.
@@jjh2456Very true. Although Yamaguchi did have a few flutzes, I’m pretty sure most of her lutzes were on a clean, outside edge.
1991-1992 was such a glorious season in the history of women's skating. You had all the top skaters executing moves that were at least 30 years ahead of their time. And, with real artistry, too.
She is "Golden"....absolutely....one of the best ICONS in US Ladies Figure Skating as well as the world. Great competitor...the whole package
This was her last amateur skate. She retired shortly afterwards and went pro.
Yes, even falling on the triple salchow, she won her second Worlds and went out on top.
As a side note, interesting to see Kristi was one of few to land triple flip and lutz regularly in competition, jumps very few others did besides Tonya and Midori. Kerrigan often falls on the triple flip.
Without a doubt, Kristi's Triple Flip was one of her best jumps. Very tight and clean!
That world championships was a mess, Nancy baulked on her jumps, fell and got second, Surya has some uncharacteristic errors, Tonya baulked on her lutz and fell on both triple axels. Kristi was relatively the cleanest out of everyone in the top group, that’s why she won. Not to discredit her or anything, she’s an amazing skater, and I love her ahead of her time transitions, but she was very lucky in Albertville that Midori fell in both the short and long program
I wonder why Nancy was always troubled by the triple flip whereas the more difficult triple lutz was almost easier for her. I know Kristi’s pairs experienced wreaked havoc in her triple sal but with Nancy it’s a mystery.
@@CarloChapelle Nancy's problems with her jumps were mostly mental.
Love her spins, delicate transitions and musicality.
She deserved the gold those days even without 3A.
Kristi was ahead of her time!
Hometown girl makes good ! This was her second best skate after the 92 Nationals, where she landed all seven jumps cleanly.
I never understood why she had such a hard time with the triple salchow, people say it's a carry over from her pairs skating where it's more difficult to land edge jumps. Don't get it, but it's hard to argue not awarding her the World title for this skate. Midori Ito skipped this Worlds due to injury and exhaustion.
She is an absolute master of finesse.
Kristi's magnificent artistry throughout the program belies what a great athlete she was. Very competitive of her to do the loop that she fell on in Albertville and not doubling the salchow. Kristi always showed up prepared and well-trained. Such a stellar career she had both as an amateur and a professional.
Love that Rudy was there to hug her!
They were friends afterward I'm pretty sure.
@@aemiliacarolphonetube9749 No, they weren't. Or it was complicated, anyway. Rudy was deeply hurt...he's talked about it a lot. But they are friends now.
That salchow is my nemesis, too. I can relate!
That back stretch entry into her triple loop is difficult.
What a way to go out, skating a near perfect program in front of your hometown crowd.
Granted the triple salchow was never her jump to land (she landed that jump only once in 92, at the U.S. Nationals).
The pressure to win only one month after the Olympics is too much, but Kristi did it.
She's been asked countless times why she didn't stay around until the 94 Olympics to do it again.
She said the pressure would've been too much.
But I'd figured since she already won the Triple Crown in 92 (Nationals, Olympics, World Championship), maybe it wouldn't be as bad in 94.
Of course that would've meant getting whacked by Tonya in 94 instead of Kerrigan getting whacked.
Tonya didn't "whack" anyone 🙄
why did she hate the 3s? She could do everything else.
I’m sorry. She couldn’t land a triple salchow? A triple salchow. And she was the best? Whew.
Stupid comment! Most skaters have a problem jump!
yo re so stupit , at time she was amazing
Technically beautiful but there’s no heart and soul
Awesome,
Beautiful K,
Bezic actually choreographed this program. Aside from that Kristi had nice jumps, coupled with a neat&polished skating style. Many skaters after her relied too much on jumps alone or "charm"&over the top theatrics to cover up poor skating skills
BlackRoses/Black Coffee if only she could land the salchow...but I digress. Kristie was automatic usually, and her jumps, aside from said salchow, were so technically strong.
@@jjh2456 I saw somewhere that her Salchow issues came from her pair skating days - when she was actually thrown into it, which provided more momentum.
Jeff Harvey yep. She never got the timing right on that jump because of that.
@lutz84 Yes, you're correct.
rudy galindo at 5:53?
She is an amazing skater.
So wonderful to see Rudy there congratulating his former partner in pairs. He was genuinely happy for her for the world title and olympic title but he is no fool. He knows his chance to go to worlds and the olympics rested a lot on Kristi skating in pairs. they were fourth in the world. But Kristin had to do what kristi had to do to get her gold medal in singles. Rudy would have some vindication in 1996 when he won the US title and I believe world bronze.
Is there any other female olympic gold medalists who won the world championshiop right after the olympics?
Katarina Witt (1984), Carol Heiss (1960), Dorothy Hamill (1976), Peggy Fleming (1968), Anett Poetszch (1980)
@@3Axel1996 thanks a lot
@@3Axel1996 And Katarina Witt (1988)
@@3Axel1996 also Sjoukje Dijkstra (1964)
How do you fall and still get a 5.9?
I agree . . . I don't think Kristi was all that. She got lucky no one did better than her in 1992 at both the Olympics and the Worlds.
@@auntiechercher4266 Midori Ito skipped this Worlds. Kerrigan never beat Yamaguchi in competition.
Triple lutz and triple toe in 1992
Because the Salchow is the second easiest jump after the toe loop. She landed two Lutz jumps and one in combination which is the second hardest jump after the Axel. None of the other skaters landed 6 triples plus two double axel jumps in their programs.
Entering the competition she had on paper the most difficult program which her coach knew she had to have to beat Ito and harding who could land the triple axel in the Olympics that year and at Worlds.
Kristi by far was the better artistry skater of that time. That plus her technical ability gave her a slight edge. Ito and Harding relied on technical. Kristi had both.
@@auntiechercher4266 this is also when Harding was declining too. Yama and Harding at their best, tonya wins.
