She should have just tried to do one of every triple other than the triple axel (which would have been possible even if/when she wasn't in ideal form) and used that to get on the podium. .....a wasted opportunity for sure, and her last one at worlds in hindsight.....
@Dylvente I agree that Lu Chen deserved silver, but you and I both know that this was a sport constantly judged on, if more than anything, reputation. Had Lu skated clean like she did in Albertville, I believe she might still end up in 3rd becoz she was at the time more of a jumping bean in some's eyes, as opposed to, Ice Princess Nancy. In her LP, Lu was in fact a bit off, and Hubert did land more triples. Thats why i said i was quite OK with the placements, seeing Lu made the podium.
I still feel like she was robbed here. She definitely should've won gold here. No one had a clean program and they were scored higher than Tonya. She was robbed. She may have doubled two jumps but they were still huge jumps and she was the only one attempting the triple axle. Granted she fell on it but it was still fully rotated. SHE WAS ROBBED....LOL...JK
+Tyler Chandler Robbed? You must be kidding because this bitch had almost zero technical merit in this performance compared to Kristi, not to mention Harding has about the same level of artistry as a used condom, although I doubt she ever used protection based on the sex tape she made with her goon husband.
Tonya's isnt the one living in a bed bug ridden trailer, like Debi Thomas, the 'classy lady' skater. Tonya has always had to work her ass off to make it and she has found happiness now with a husband and child.
Uhh, why should she have won gold?! Didn't she mess up her combination jump in the short program and miss it? That alone takes the gold away from her...
I'm quite late to the whole ordinals thing; how exactly did this performance have anything to do with Hubert and Chen, given that she didn't outrank either?
Tonya was so ill prepared here. She was in terrible shape, had been smoking a lot, partying...She overbanked on her talent. But neglect and abuse of one's body will show on even the most talented athlete..
I think it's not as simple as that. Smoking in spite of Asthma and being a top athlete may be self-destructive and even self-harming, but People who suffer from psychological Trauma like she did/does often do such Things. Abuse is the word, but I'm talking About the abuse in her childhood by her mother and later by Jeff Gillooly and the Problems with him that affected Tonya and her Skating. I don't mean that as an excuse for everything that went wrong in her life, just as an Explanation.
Totally. The public doesn't realise that the brains of people suffering from psychological trauma actually undergo a physical change in the neuron wiring and go into permanent survival mode - the fight or flight response is switched on 24/7. That causes them to crave things that give them instant energy such as sugary or fatty foods, and yes nicotine too. It's a lot harder to stick to a healthy lifestyle for trauma survivors because their brains' wiring actively fights against it.
Can you imagine how much everything could have played out had she been in that same shape and continued to improve? Instead of using SA as motivation she got cocky and slacked off. Argh!
@@searanch32 I don't think that she just got cocky or lazy. She had a lot of Trouble and Problems that affected her and her Skating and with that terrible childhood and home life it's a Miracle she got as far as she got IMHO...
@@itsallgoodman1244 Even If she admitted it, I still think there was more behind it. A History of abuse and trauma can cause someone to self-sabotage...
@judeluo I think the judges were generous to both Harding and Kerrigan that year, perhaps out of respect for their being on the podium the year before. I really think Lu Chen could have been awarded the silver; Nancy was very lucky to win a silver with landing only four triples, two each of the easiest jumps. Harding was just painful to watch here -- just go for the damn triples! The year before she was making them look like child's play.
There are basically two good jumps in this program, the triple salchow at the top and the double axel to close. Second triple salchow doesn't count because neither was in combination. Hopeless triple axel, doubled the lutz, toe-loops, loop, didn't even try the planned flip. There were skaters who finished in the teens who had more content than this. She was lucky not to get marks into the 4's.
Here was one of the weirdest ordinal flips I've seen. Tonya literally pushed Hubert off the podium, and her marks were all over the place. The Hungarian judge handed her a puzzling 5.5/5.8 whereas Vanessa Riley, relentless as usual, a 5.0/5.0....Not that i am unhappy with the final placements though.
The music is from the score to the movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The songs are "Overture" "Prisoner of the Crusades" "Marian at the Waterfall" and "Finale."

What are the songs she used? They sound so familiar.
My aunt still does her hair like hers lol bangs n all, still stuck in the 90's.
We need pictures, please.
Yea, I know the kind. Why don't you help her to get a makeover. Once she sees how great 2018 hair can be, she won't ever look back :)
@Gerrid Williams, lol! So MANY women kept that look with the curly bangs in front. I think some people will always have it. It is kind of cute, lol!!
+Tyler Chandler No, she doubled too many of her jumps.
Tonya has always had to work her ass off to make it and she has found happiness now with a husband and child.
are you mad
Finally someone with some objectivity, and common sense. Thank you for your comments!
It's a lot harder to stick to a healthy lifestyle for trauma survivors because their brains' wiring actively fights against it.
wasn't in the shape she was in at Skate America
Can you imagine how much everything could have played out had she been in that same shape and continued to improve? Instead of using SA as motivation she got cocky and slacked off. Argh!
@@searanch32 I don't think that she just got cocky or lazy. She had a lot of Trouble and Problems that affected her and her Skating and with that terrible childhood and home life it's a Miracle she got as far as she got IMHO...
@@itsallgoodman1244 Even If she admitted it, I still think there was more behind it. A History of abuse and trauma can cause someone to self-sabotage...
I always found her skating more exciting than Kristi and Nancy
No attempt to the triple flip :-(
So strange, right?
I think her 2nd Salchow might've been a planned Flip, but she changed her mind at the last minute. She never repeated triples except for the Toe Loop.
Beautiful music too bad she didn’t nail this at her best
@judeluo I think the judges were generous to both Harding and Kerrigan that year, perhaps out of respect for their being on the podium the year before. I really think Lu Chen could have been awarded the silver; Nancy was very lucky to win a silver with landing only four triples, two each of the easiest jumps. Harding was just painful to watch here -- just go for the damn triples! The year before she was making them look like child's play.
exactly.....ditto on every single point.......and Nancy was treated pretty generously at the Olympics, as well, if I remember.
Brilliant.
5.0?
There are basically two good jumps in this program, the triple salchow at the top and the double axel to close. Second triple salchow doesn't count because neither was in combination. Hopeless triple axel, doubled the lutz, toe-loops, loop, didn't even try the planned flip. There were skaters who finished in the teens who had more content than this. She was lucky not to get marks into the 4's.
The fact that she just completely left out the triple flip pretty much says it all.
That was fantastic honestly
Where's horse teeth??
;D~ she hugs yamaguci near the end of video....
Songs name plsss
The music is from the score to the movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The songs are "Overture" "Prisoner of the Crusades" "Marian at the Waterfall" and "Finale."
Who is that woman with dianne????
Erica Bacchus (sp?), her choreographer.
Tonya was so much better than Nancy!
So Tonya takes 6th place unbelievable
There are no words to describe how much I hate Sandra Bezic's commentary.
D D quite shady she sounded!
Every time i hear her i cringe she’s really shady
Think commentator is JoJo Starbuck
Sandra Bezic.
Too many changes in only a
One of her worst ones.
not a very good skater at all - not consistent at all
Lol...you seem to know a lot😆
That dress 🤮🤮
Here we go the asthma coughing when Tonya does not win.
