She is a very solid skater. She has the best coach, the best family and she really feels the music. Love her. She deserved to win the gold medal. Her coach has a cool sweater by the way.
I LUV the backward glide finish! Rarely if ever see that as a finishing move. Really like Sandra Bezic's choreography and she stood up for Kristi in the commentator's booth while the British ignoramus tried to attack Yamaguchi. Good for Sandra!
While I agree Kristi isn't as powerful a skater as Tonya, but Harding losing this Worlds title was her own undoing. She landed the triple axel in the LP, but popped a planned triple-triple and reduced another triple jump. Kristi was near perfect reducing only one triple to a single. If you're gonna judge both of them technically, Kristi still performed more triples than Tonya in the LP. Looking back, this 91 Worlds was Tonya's best chance to win it, but she made two major mistakes in the long program. After 1991, Tonya's skating would go down as her personal life started to unravel.
Yeah he or she had Kristi behind Tonya in both. 5.8/5.7 for Harding in the long vs. 5.6/5.6 for Yamaguchi -- was this judge watching a different competition than the rest of the panel?
I agree - I liked Tonya's short program better - but that is just my opinion. I do think, however that Kristi deserved to win the title because her LP was better than Tonya's (obviously).
Wow. That's a crazy take. Yamaguchi's overall choreography and presentation are light-years beyond Harding and Kerrigan. Add to that her clean performance on the jumps and she is the clear and obvious winner.
This is why I never considered Kristy to be a true artist on the ice during her eligible days: Sandra Bezic, Kristi's choreographer, commented in this the video that Kristi "does what she's told." That is not a true artist.
The Lutz was on a flat edge and it wasn't really a toe pick...It is like the blade was sideways...Some of the same issues you see with Russian Skaters today....
@@frankieb43 The start until the spiral sequence and then from the flying camel to the end is another piece of music, I think it's called Valencia, no clue who the composer is unfortunately.
@@timothyhh I remembered that an old media guide said that Kristi’s short program music was “Valencia by Padilla” … and now today … 30 years later … I looked it up and the full name is Jose Padilla and it was included in the silent movie _Valencia_ and was one of the biggest hits of 1926!
She doesn't. She is on an outside edge on the take off of her Lutz. If you want a good demonstration of a flutz, look at Nicole Bobek. That girl flutzed her ass off.
Kristi had the jump difficulty (except for the triple axel), but she definitely lacked speed, power, originality, and excitement. She should have finished behind Tonya in this part.
Tonya;'s spins are faster. That does not equal better. By any measure Kristi's spins are better, the positions are better, the centering is better, the control is better. Kristi did everything Tonya did but made it look like she was floating. Tonya may be the current flavor of the month but that doesn't rewrite history. Watch how Kristi lands her double Axel on a cymbal crash. Completely synchronized. That takes a level of precision the others didn't have. Midori was the best of the era. Kristi was a close second for the different qualities she possessed.
Yamaguchis a pencil which is very unattractive, Tonya had a very nice body her arms were slim yet muscular and her legs were thick, not all muscle but a lot of it was.
snowballwannabe this was 25 years ago... she is a very well known skater, anyone who knows anything about figure skating knows her. and this was before quads nearly became a requirement to win.
You can’t call an Olympic Gold medalist an overrated skater., especially when she came out on top in a batch of the most athletically talented and skilled female skaters the world has seen and prob will never see again.
As good as it gets! Absolutely love Kristi Yamaguchi!

shihlin1 more triples is true but the axel has the highest point value
Kristi could skate around circles on her competition. And by today's standards she would be on a level all her own.
Tonya won the short hands down!!Kristi beat her by far in the long.
I disagree. Kristi hit this program perfectly, including using ever beat of the music perfectly. Tonya's short was more powerful, but less artistic.
She makes it look like a beautiful anime character transforming!
I love it!
the best
Wow the Australian judge really didn't like her here or in the long either.....
Yeah he or she had Kristi behind Tonya in both. 5.8/5.7 for Harding in the long vs. 5.6/5.6 for Yamaguchi -- was this judge watching a different competition than the rest of the panel?
That Australian judge liked no one hahaha. 5.6...really? That judge would be dragged in our current judging system
Harding should have won the short program.

なんて華やかなスケーターだ🎉この時点でオリンピック金メダリストになるこどが確定してる様だ😊

What is the name of this music?
It's in the description La Bamba Boston Pops orchestra

@@icetre5706 LOL, how bout that? I think Christine Errath from East Germany used the same music in 1976.
Does anyone know what this music is called?
+Lyra Musica Espa~na Ca~ni
See the description section
it seems to me she flutzes.

So, you want to ignore the fact that Kristi had better choreography, better positions on the spirals and spins, and interpreted the music better?
Her spins were not better. Tonya's spins are overall slightly better with more speed. Spirals neither were anything special.

I agree Tonya clearly won that short. I think it’s better to skate towards the end instead of early. Skate early judges may be leaving room to grow.
Tonya Harding should have won this Worlds~!
Tonya did not skate well in the long program. She deserved second.
The comments here are ridiculous. Harding might as well be a skating hippo compared to this.
Jonathan Wallach Its the truth tonya skated better than her.
Yamaguchis a pencil which is very unattractive, Tonya had a very nice body her arms were slim yet muscular and her legs were thick, not all muscle but a lot of it was.
She's gorgeous and a phenomenal skater, you clown.
An overrated skater. There's nothing original, exciting or highly difficult in her programs.

She was not an overrated skater by any means. She improved artistically over the past two years prior to this.
