    Thank you so much!!! I litterally have this coming tomorrow and first thing I was going to go is replace the SSD. Great info here. Heat gun is a must and I've already ordered extra glass parts to be sure.

    Thanks for the video. It clears up some doubts about how this device is repairable. I believe using a blade creates extra tension on the glass, which will cause it to break due to its thickness. However, using an ultra-thin stainless steel curved spudger pry blade will have less tendency to break the glass.

    Thanks for sharing this. Handhelds need to be easy for users to open them up and upgrade or clean dust out. When opened up the onexplayer I had it was really tricky too for different reasons since it was a diff handheld.
    The best option is to 3d print some replacement covers instead of glass. Those would be much easier to take off

      Yeah it’s crazy because the X1 mini is literally the EASIEST SSD replacement on any handheld. It’s just 4 screws on the kickstand. Not sure why the big X1 is this abomination. I guess they learned their lesson as the X1 mini came out after the X1. Idk 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Gonna end up just doing the ssd replacement and order the back little panels. Might as well since I do it for all my other devices.

    A few tips that might help in the future... You should not be holding the heat gun that close....a few inches away is optimal... Also always keep it moving sweeping back and forth. You could damage/melt something pretty easily. And maybe try a scalpel like they did in the tutorial video. But great and informative video.

    Was watching this as I did my SSD upgrade and it was not near as bad as you said. The official video did not show them heating it up, but you could see that the glass was using adhesive in their video. I just set my heat gun on 2 (hottest mode) and smoothly moved it over the glass without focusing on any particular location and it worked great. I also only used my knife AFTER I used the heat gun, no need to use it at the same time.

      @@BarelyAverageDude I for one am glad u documented this because I'm the type that jumps into things before fully researching it thinking it'll be normal and like other units I've worked on. I don't get why one x made the decision to use this build design. I do like the quality they went to one the inside though. Looks like they put lots of attention into it. I also kinda wish they had used a second fan they obviously had room for it.

    • @BarelyAverageDude
      @BarelyAverageDude  3 місяці тому

      I believe the restore feature is in a recovery partition of the C drive so if you replace the SSD without cloning it will be like a new computer without the onexplayer stuff

    as a X1 onwer thats the only thing I don't like about the device. Im guessing the next X1 will have the little back door panel like the X1 mini. I bought the 1tb but I should have got the 2tb for not much more. I just thought id change it myself but its not really meant to be opened. Buy the 2tb. Like I said the next version of this will most likely have the little back door panel for easy SSD swap like the X1 mini

    The glass does give it a more premium look & feel to some of us. If you weren’t taking it apart it wouldn’t even be an issue to you. It seems nowadays the more awesome gadgets & technology we acquire the more we gripe about every little thing. Me being the age I am I guess I’m so appreciative of how better things have gotten & advanced that little gripes like that seem ridiculous.

    • @BarelyAverageDude
      @BarelyAverageDude  3 місяці тому +1

      @@12spin Glass is more "premium" but in the world where every other handheld is much easier to upgrade the SSD this feels out of place and less user-friendly. And my real issue is not the difficulty; it's really that the official video skips past a very important step in the disassembly process.
