If onexplayer released a landscape display, then the 15wh difference won't matter. It's a laptop, it's a handheld, it's a tablet. Plus for media consumption, it kicks ass.
One X Player software has a button press option to activate/deactivate AMD upscaling which is one of the most useful tools I’ve seen on a handheld. Assuming the device is 2.5 k resolution, then if you set native resolution to 1600 & upscale to 2.5 k, you are gonna get a helluva result. If you activate the vivid color display option from the AMD app, the display will likely come reasonably close to simulating OLED. It costs a fortune & likely isn’t worth the freight but it’s gonna look so much better than an Alley.
Man you make the best handheld comparison and review videos ive seen. Answering all the questions honestly when others seem to miss or not be fully transparent. Appreciate your opinions on these. Keep it up!
I've had my eye on the ally X but that tablet size screen on the onex looks awesome! Plus the utility being able to use as a tablet if I want to and with a debatable keyboard turning it into a laptop. My new #1
I'm actually considering the X1 over the Ally X because i plan to use it with an EGPU. And having an Oculink port is a point up over USB4. Also 32 gb RAM is nice to have.
Ive owned the legion go, rog ally, rog ally x, and now i just ordered a onex 1 amd hopefully it will be good im very excited for it! I loved the rog x and legion but my rogs always had issues so they all eventually got returned
The x1 is beautiful but I agree the joystick placement may not be everyone’s preference. With that said the ally ergonomics for me are perfect buttttt man the screen, it’s beautiful but a hair too small for me these days. I hope the ally 2 goes with a bigger screen.
OneNet could try to trim the bezels more, This would allow a bigger screen, without having to increase the physical size of the device. Only real problem would be the cam at the top...unless people would be ok with a notch. Personally, I'm of an unpopular opinion outside iPad Pros and Surface Go, is to go for a more 4:3 aspect ratio. It will give more screen real estate vertical wise, bigger trackpad as a result while still retaining the cam. When one puts the X1 and Surface Go side by side, they will see the difference. **Surface Go's bezels can definitely be thinner btw.
Will always be a Steam Deck guy, only reason I now got an Ally X is because of dual booting Bazzite for SteamOS for that Steam Deck like experience 👍🏼 -sleep/resume works, -the power of Ally X and battery life is unmatched. -Anti Cheat restriction? @BarelyAverageDude why did you choose to compare with fsr and framegen enabled. The z1e doesn't get the same drivers as the x1 so doesn't seem like a great idea to compare raw performance between the two. Especially if trying to test the ram size difference.
@ both are on the latest drivers that have native support from AMD for frame gen, plus the frame gen is being handled by the game, not the AFMF. Also, most ppl playing these games will likely use frame gen to improve performance. I honestly don’t like frame gen when I game, but it’s the most common use case for handhelds My test are not always “scientific” but I try to show what most handheld gamers would experience. In reality, these processors are pretty much the same thing; I’m not looking for raw performance, but how they do in actual games.
@BarelyAverageDude yeah I get that. But the majority wont sideload those drivers, and theyre not completely optimized for the z1e. Just wanted to see if 32gb actually made a difference vs 24gb. In reality I don't believe it does on these handhelds. Maybe in the future when Native 1440p is a thing.
@juicyj8402 I'm using the standard Ally AMD drivers, not the side loaded drivers. It has framegen now. I meant the latest drivers for each device, not the same exact drivers, my bad. But to you point; most games will not see an improvement of performance going from 24Gb RAM to 32Gb because once you go past like 8-10GB of VRAM the GPU itself becomes the limiting factor and more VRAM won't really help. There's only very few ram heavy games that would benefit from 32gb vs 24gb.
I just don’t see me enjoying the controllers of the onex. The joystick is super low, doesn’t look comfortable. There’s a way to buy another controller that will fit?

However the only thing stopping me from buying the current X1 is the looseness of the controllers, how they wiggle, when they are attached to the main unit, and they even have some play in them when they are attached to the controller connector.
Yeah I believe it depends on how new your unit is but i dont think that is confirmed. Some people with older units have diy'ed a fix with 1mm thick adhesive foam to stick above the pogo pin area where the controllers do the slide action for securing on.
