I had an 8 track called Kicking Country back when I was a kid. Waylon, Hank ,Coe, and Charlie Daniels were on it. and Michel Martin Murphy. Cosmic Cowboy
The back up singer is his stepdaughter Jennifer Eddy. Waylon played with Buddy Holly in his younger days. He gave up his plane seat so he wasn’t in the crash that killed Buddy Holley, the big bopper and Richie valens.
While I feel bad for the rock community who lost three stars at once in that crash, I am ever grateful that Waylon gave up his seat that fateful day. I shudder to think how many songs I grew up on wouldn't have existed.
You forgot the part where Buddy told Waylon I hope your bus wreaks joking with him to which Waylon replied yeah I hope your plane crashes 😮 it haunted Waylon the rest of his life
Yeah him and Buddy Holly were both joking with each other not long before the plane crash. Buddy Holly told Waylon that he hoped his Bus froze up, and Waylon said Yeah well I hope you’re Damn Plane Crashes. Waylon lived with that the rest of his life.
He commands the stage. Waylon was playing bass for Buddy Holly and the Crickets when the plane crashed. They were playing in the cold North and the bus had a broken heater. He gave up his seat to the Big Bopper who was sick. Buddy’s last words to Waylon was “I hope you freeze!” To which Waylon replied, “Oh yeah, well, I hope you crash.” That haunted Waylon until the day he died.
No, Buddy Holly and the Crickets had another falling out and had parted ways. Buddy came out with a solo album and his record company wanted him to go on tour and promote it. There was only one tour left in the year, and it was the Winter Dance Party tour with Ritchey Valens and the Big Bopper. Buddy needed a band and asked his friend from west Texas to join him and others on the tour and he did. After the performance in Clear Lake, Iowa that night, the rest is history.
Waylon was Johnny Cash’s roommate in Nashville in the mid 60’s. He and Willie really started the Outlaw Country movement in the early 70’s. He had a series of great albums. He also won a Grammy in the 60’s with the Kimberlys for their version of Jimmy Webbs MacArther Park.
One of my favorites by Waylon is "Don't you think this Outlaw thing has done got out of hand" about a police raid on one of his shows in NYC...a MUST listen
Greatest is right..seen Waylon a year before his passing and he is and was the best at everything he did..chet Atkins hired Waylon unseen because he had so many music singers say how great he was and that's never happened before or since. WAYLON has the first platinum and triple platinum on his wall..Waylon was the first to own his own music rights in Nashville...so singers today should be kissing his boots and to me that wouldn't be enough..
The “Boogity Boogity Boogity”, that’s just something Waylon would do. He would often do random stuff like that. I believe this was taken from the show “Live in Austin Texas”. I think I have that album.
I was lucky enough to get to meet Waylon at one of his concerts. And he was one of the nicest most humble man you would have ever wanted to meet. Even with him being a great musician and millionaire you wouldn’t know it just talking to him.
the craziest thing is, that Waylon is like the 6 degrees of separation when it comes to music history. his fingerprint is LITERALLY on everything. From Buddy Holly, all the way up till he died.
@4:30 I love you so much! LOL you are so fun to watch react. Thank you pretty little lady. You never fail to put a smile on this old Cowboy from Texas.
Waylon was one of a kind. Littlefield Texas, the town I was born in. Waylon and Willie did free concerts there for years until the city of Littlefield decided to outsource the venders and they stopped because they were doing it to help local businessmen, to help Littlefield.
The first concert I ever saw, me and my best buddy talked his mom and her sister into taking us to see Waylon Jennings. We were in the 7th grade back in 1977. I've been to MANY concerts since, but I will NEVER forget that one! Waylon and Willie (Nelson) originated what they started to call “outlaw country”. Of course their friends, like Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson were recognized as members later on, but they were members of it even before it was recognized as such.
Too this day, my top three concerts ive attended include one with Willie doing a set then Waylon doing his set followed by both together doing all thier duet hits. Damn it was a great time!
Bluegrass is usually played only with acoustic stringed instruments (Fiddles, guitars, banjos, delcimers, etc). Don't generally see drums or electric amplified guitars. Think of a high lonesome sound.
That song was written by Rodney Crowell in 1976, he did solo work but also joined Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band. Emmylou & the Hot Band opened for Waylon on a show & they sang this song, when Waylon heard it he came up to Rodney & said, you guys can stop singing that song now because I like it so much that I’m gonna record it & after I record it I’ll own that song. Lol, & he was right, he recorded it in 1979 & everybody thinks it’s a Waylon song. Some people will argue with you when you tell them Rodney Crowell wrote it, they think Waylon did, that’s how much the song is identified with Waylon.
Jennifer Eddy is the daughter of a famous guitarist and former husband of Jessi Coulter, Duane Eddy. Jessi married Waylon. Duane had a unique sound called Twangy Guitar. Duane Eddy and The Rebels were huge in the 50's into the 60's. Waylon was a Super Star in country music.
The lady doing the backup vocals is I believe Waylon's stepdaughter. His wife Jesse Colter is a good artist in her own right. She did the song I'm not Lisa. She played piano for him on the Johnny Cash show. When you hear it you know it's Waylon, he flat tore up that drop D tuning. One of my favorites is Me and Bobbi McGee he did on Hee Haw.
I love, love, love that you’re reacting to Waylon. His voice just gives me goosebumps- love him! And I think the word you were looking for is “natural”. It feels natural.
I absolutely love seeing the transformation you've made from your earlier country videos where you weren't very sure who the various country artists were and all that to now hearing you make references to Waylon and his style as though you have been listening to his stuff for ages. And I didn't mention it on your reaction to The Ride when I watched a few minutes ago, but I was similarly struck by how you made the connection at that end about Hank Jr. even though it was obvious you didn't have the background knowledge at the time about his father's tragic death, etc enough to readily recognize that Senior's ghost was the driver. You've just about got the background now to be able to fully appreciate what I think are some of the best country songs -- the ones that make reference to the greats. I think I saw "Who's gonna fill their shoes" in your back catalog...I encourage you to go back and revisit that song now with the music exposure framework you've developed over the past year or so. Betcha it hits differently than it did before. 💩! It hits me differently each time we lose another of the artists whose music made up the soundtrack of my childhood.
Waylon was in Buddy Holly's Band and gave up his seat on Buddy's plane on 2/3/59 the day music died for someone who felt ill and couldn't handle a cold bus ride. Buddy said I Hope You Freeze and Waylon replied I Hope Your Plane Crashes. Those words haunted Waylon
It seems to me this song is possibly very loosely derived from/inspired by a song called, In the jail house now, by Web Pierce that was covered by Waylon's dear friend Johnny Cash.
Britt, the words you are searching for are "comfortable" and "professional". Classic country performers are relaxed and serene in their presentation and performance.
Welcome ot Outlaw Country. Waylon, Willie, David, Johnny, just to name a few from this era. Just guys that wanted to sing their brand of country and not what the Corporation wanted.
hey britt its nice to see you checking some more waylon(waymore).he's had hits from the 60's - 90's so you have many waylon songs to listen to.i would like to suggest "i may be used(but baby i ain't used up)" and "never could toe the mark".i also wish you and yours a very happy thanksgiving.
The Phase effect that Waylon used filled the room with his sound. You need to check out Waylon Jennings sing "don't you think this outlaw sh*t" or "don't you think this outlaw stuff". One is live one is radio version of the story of the night the FBI raided a studio session and then read up on what happened that night.
Waylon jennings is outlaw country. Waylon also played bass for Buddy Holly during The Winter Dance Party, Buddy Holly rented the plane for his band, but JP Richardson (The Big Bopper) was sick and asked Waylon if he would give up his seat so he could sleep in a warm bed, Ritchie Valens was also sick so they had a coin flip with Holly's guitar player Tommy Allsup, Ritchie won?
Britt, as Waylon said Glen Campbell has more talent than anyone ought to have. Eddie Van Halen regarded him as the beat guitarist in the world. Most played artist on the radio of the 20th century. Multiple Country Entertainer of the Year, multiple Emmy's, and Academy Award for best song of the Year. Live performances of Gentle on My Mind and Galveston are SO good
I like live music better when I'm there than watching a live video or hearing a live version of a song recorded. Give me the studio version in that case.
please react to waylon. Are you sure Hank done it this way. The highwaymen version. You will see his skills, Also his grandson Whey Jennings has a beautiful video that just came out a few weeks ago. the song is called one folded.
I will agree with the first part of your comment. I saw that version for the first time back in 2003, and fell in the floor. He made that guitar stand up and talk. So effortless. Awesome!

When you hear That Guitar….you know it’s Waylon!
“I’ve Always Been Crazy”
That is my favorite Waylon song I have told people that song is my theme song LOL because I have always been crazy
It’s got a sound all its own
yup. half time.
Waylon: my favorite male country singer of all time. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
I had an 8 track called Kicking Country back when I was a kid. Waylon, Hank ,Coe, and Charlie Daniels were on it. and Michel Martin Murphy. Cosmic Cowboy
Definitely from country music, Play Jim Croce the favorite from that type of music
The back up singer is his stepdaughter Jennifer Eddy. Waylon played with Buddy Holly in his younger days. He gave up his plane seat so he wasn’t in the crash that killed Buddy Holley, the big bopper and Richie valens.
Jennifer Eddy’s father was the famous Duane Eddy- Rebel Rouser. Her mother is the famous Jesse Colter-I’m not Lisa.
While I feel bad for the rock community who lost three stars at once in that crash, I am ever grateful that Waylon gave up his seat that fateful day. I shudder to think how many songs I grew up on wouldn't have existed.
Jennifer Eddy's son is Struggle Jennings and he's best friends with Jelly Roll.

Waylon. Nuff said. Texas legend.
I saw Waylon from the late 70's until he passed, everytime he was within 100 miles or so. It was always electrifying when he walked onstage.
“I’ve Always Been Crazy” the original studio version is a great song.
the craziest thing is, that Waylon is like the 6 degrees of separation when it comes to music history. his fingerprint is LITERALLY on everything. From Buddy Holly, all the way up till he died.
Never thought of it that way, but you are right!
My favorite country singer. This song written by Rodney Crowell, a Houston Texas native.
Waylon George Jones and Hank Jr all have that Outlaw Swag!!!!
@4:30 I love you so much! LOL you are so fun to watch react. Thank you pretty little lady. You never fail to put a smile on this old Cowboy from Texas.

Interesting fact, this song was written by Rodney Crowell who was married to Rosanne Cash... Johnny Cash's daughter
Oh snap... didn't realize that connection by marriage. Roseanne's "Tennessee Flattop Box" is a stellar song in its own right.
I heard her say in an interview that she did not know it was one of her dads hits until after her version was a hit.@d.t.r.8036
I know. They were very comfortable and confident on stage doing what they do
it's funny how two different artists can feel authentic, but be totally different. Love both versions!
Bluegrass is usually played only with acoustic stringed instruments (Fiddles, guitars, banjos, delcimers, etc). Don't generally see drums or electric amplified guitars. Think of a high lonesome sound.
Merle Haggard singing That’s the way love goes is a great country or great any kind of song . His delivery is song real and smooth .
mhmm
Waylon’s leather covered black and white guitar is now owned by Keith Urban, a gift from his wife Nicole Kidman
Only one of 5 Keith has..Waylons original that he played and liked most, Shooter has..
Them old love songs. One of his best imo.

This is actually a Rodney Crowl song. That he wrote.
Waylon songs have that signature back beat

Rose in paradise is great too

Rodney has some great songs. I love his The Border. There is a great live version on UA-cam.
