When the train was gone, so were all his young friends from days long gone. We can't go back. ALL the music from Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band tells us stories that we all can relate to.
The train is the passing of time. Old friends appear across the tracks. You can see them but they're not there any longer. I'm 78 and think back over the many friends gone now. My time is coming too but I still feel "like a rock". Great review. Thank you. Next......Night Moves. ❤️
Well said. At 68 i feel it too. Time waits for no man. . And we can never go back.. except for in our hearts and minds. Memories of younger days. When you felt like a rock. We get just a glimpse into our past. Great song. Hits me every time . Im the only one left now all family and friends gone long ago
Big Seger fan here. Bob started performing in the Detroit area in 1961 as a teenager, and his first national charter was 1969’s “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man”. Bob put together the Silver Bullet Band in 1974, and they toured all over the Midwest US sometimes playing 200 shows a year. But the breakout didn’t come until 1975-1976. He’s released some amazing songs, like this one, but most preceded MTV, so there are very few official videos. Most of his lyrics have a wistful quality. His voice was always powerful, and his music relied on guitar, and piano, and often some amazing saxophone. He recorded with his band, or with the Muscle Shoals Swampers and defined heartland rock. These days it seems to belong in the country category, but that may be because some major country songwriters cite Bob’s songs as influential to their writing in the 80’s and 90’s. A very cinematic story teller, Seger was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012. People my age remember “Like a Rock” from 14 years of tv ads for Chevy trucks. Even with that overexposure, it is still one of my favorite Seger songs. I also recommend the video for “Turn the Page”, which includes some looks back to earlier live performances. Thanks for doing a reaction to Bob. His songs age along with the listener and become more poignant as the years go by. He retired in 2019.

I'm 62yrs old and with every year that passes, this song digs deeper into my soul. My favorite scene in this video is when the young lady climbs up onto the back of the seat with the wind blowing through her hair. A time of carefree. Then both guitar solos........ Thank you for your reaction.
61 here, I'm sensing a pattern lol. As they say, "Youth is wasted on the young", if only we knew what we know now...would we do anything different? Probably not, and maybe that's the beauty of it.
Never ceases to amaze me when people say they never heard/heard of Bob and the band...sold 60 million albums Rock n Roll and song writers hall of famer
Bob has a greatest hits album that is actually real greatest hits. All had a lot of air time on the radio and all are easily recognizable to many. So many people put out greatest hits albums that only a very strong fan would know more than 3 or 4, but his has 20.
Just turned 62 and am recovering from my second back surgery. That like a rock feeling was at 18, now 44 years ago. You don't notice it slipping away at first, then in your 30s it gets you a little and a little more in your 40s and manfrom 55 to 60 my body aged 10 years.
Bob Seger is universally acknowledged by fans and musicians as one of the defining voices of American music. Hollywood Nights remains one of my favourites, in conjunction with this fine song.
Only two guitar solos repeatedly move me to tears. Rick Vito on Like a Rock and David Gilmour on Comfortably Numb. There's a difference between playing the right notes and letting your emotions bleed from your instrument.
Great Artist, great performance, great band, and yes, a great song. Even though many of us old timers got burned out on this one from decades of hearing it in Chevy ads.
Yay, Bob Seger! I really hope that you do more reactions to him, he has a massive library and I can honestly say there are only about two songs that I don't particularly care for. He's a master storyteller and songwriter.
Excellent reaction Sabina!! All of your talking points about Bob and the song were spot on. Bob Seger "feels" every word he sings, and you will too. Check out "Night Moves" next. His catalog is epic.
I love the last verse of the song. The message that remembering back to your youth can give you strength through all stages of life, even when the physical power and strength of youth is long gone. Powerful message.
Love this song. I wrote this in an earlier comment; there is plenty of Bob Seger to listen to if you understand the meaning of it: Bob Seger - from 2 + 2 to Night Moves this guy was the Detroit Boy that was always Running Against the Wind. Like a Rock he was Shamed by the Moon so Turn the page to find more hits. Just Roll With it and You'll Accompany Me all the way down Main Street.
Oh that was fun! Bob's one of my favs! ❤ Thank you - I loved your' reaction as usual I also recommend: Playing For Change - When The Levee Breaks ft. John Paul Jones (Zepplin cover); Stevie Ray Vaughan & Johnny Copeland live - Tin Pan Alley (a clinic in cold Texas blues). If you're interested, either/both will knock your socks off! 😊
@@sabina1118 The MOST amazing part was when the spotlight went on the sax player at the beginning of "Turn The Page." It was one of the most incredible moments of my life. @ Yup, Bob often helps Roll Me Away, when I Feel Like a Number, and need to Get Out of Denver but also to Accomp’ny Me when I’m walking down Mainstreet, Shining Brightly.
Not a bad song in his library. His worst song could be compared to this one as his best one could be as well. His voice can carry the song without an instrument, try night moves and you'll agree. You won't go wrong if you decide to go down this rabbit hole.
