My grandfather fought in WWII at Iwo Jima. He passed away 20 years ago and was offered interment at Arlington as he made preparations for his passing a few weeks before, but he chose to be by his wife, my grandmother, who preceded him in death by a few years. I know how much Arlington means, but it was also really inspiring to hear him say he just wanted to lay beside the only woman he ever loved for all eternity. No one even thought to try and talk him out of it. He still had an amazing service, God bless the active duty Marines who came to honor him.
Our son will never know his grandfather, who is buried at Arlington. He was first generation American from Swedish parents. Thank you for your tears and for your respect.
God Bless You and your family. Every American should visit Arlington, it is truly life changing to see in person the endless rows of marble headstones as far as the eye can see in all directions will cause a visceral emotional reaction whether stoic or transparent...such a special place......knowing an AMERICAN HERO is forever resting in such a beautiful and sacred place...As I said, truly life changing to visit and feel the aura that radiates from all directions. It's ironic that it's peaceful. Considering it's in Northern Virginia, and started on land seized from General Robert E Lee. Lincoln during the Civil War. With Virginia's laws, living in a veneration in a crime.

I've been there many times over the years. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is really something to behold. My brother, my mom's best friend (that I was named after), my 2 uncles, and 19 of my Daddy's good buddies (including his best friend, his hunting partner, and his bunk mate) are there (all died together). 💔😔 Daddy passed in 2021 at 90 yrs old. He had a place saved in Arlington if desired, but they're low on space these days so Momma couldn't be placed there with him. We decided to put them at rest together in one of the many beautiful National Cemeteries they have across the country now; they're like smaller versions of Arlington. Daddy was given full military honors including the flag folding detail, 21-gun salute, and bugler playing Taps. It was a beautiful ceremony. Momma followed him in Feb 2023 and we were able to have her ashes interred in the same plot. Her info is on the other side of Daddy's headstone. They'd been together since they were 15 & 16 yrs old. Married for 70 of those years! They're together again now & forever. 💞
Last year my uncle died...20 years USMC Korea and Vietnam combat veteran. He was 89 years old and buried at Arlington. This song always got to me but, as weird as it might sound, I can smile a bit because of the line "best of company"...I completely agree.
My father was a World War II veteran who served the United States Armed Forces in the Far East (USAFFE). He survived the Bataan Death March in the Philippines. Although he was buried at Santa Fe Veteran's Cemetery, his name is included in the Pacific Veterans Wall at Arlington National Cemetery. When we immigrated to the US, my brother and I served in the US Navy and my sister served in the US Air Force. Both my sons and two nephews served in the US Navy, a niece served as an officer in the US Army, and another nephew served in the US Air Force. Serving was our way of thanking and giving back to this great country who welcomed us in her arms.
I’ve been to Arlington 3 times…I liken it to being in church. There is a video of the changing of the guard. If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend you watch it,
Interesting fact that not a lot of people know about Arlington Cemetery. Before there was a cemetery, Arlington House was where General Lee (confederate general) lived. During the civil war, he used his house as a Confederate command post. After the North won the war, Lee surrendered to the North, and it was decided (not sure by who) to bury the dead soldiers of the war on Lee’s property so Lee wouldn’t live there anymore. That was the birth of Arlington Cemetery.
Do you honestly believe the Confederate military command post was only a mile or two from the Union capital? The house and lands were occupied by *Union* troops. As a punishment for Confederates the US Government imposed a special property tax. Which had to be paid *in person*, during the war itself. At the time, the property belonged to Mary Custis Lee (not Robert, but his mother), who had abandoned the house after her nephew warned her Union troops were coming to seize it. Mary Lee was elderly and infirm, certainly in no shape to cross the combat lines to pay the tax, so the government bought it at a tax auction. It was not until 70 or so years later the courts compelled the government to compensate the Lee family fully for taking the property since they occupied it *before* buying it. Which effectively meant Mary Lee had been forced to quarter soldiers in her home (even though she wasn't there) and that is unconstitutional.
US Army Combat Veteran here. Thank you for your reaction. I love you guys! Have you thought about coming to America? I would be honored to call you my fellow countymen.
I have been to Arlington Cemetery twice and saw The Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I cried both times! So many white crosses that cover acres of ground reminded me that so many died for my freedom, and that Freedom isn't free and comes with a cost. I am proud to be an American!
Being from a military family I get emotional watching videos like this. So much love and thank you to those who have served and died, and those serving today 🤗❤️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸
My Dad and all of my uncles served in WWII. Two did not make it back, and I never met them. They are not in Arlington, but close to home. This is so moving.
Laying wreaths at Christmas is such an honor. Laid several. Went across the grounds to be sure my boss' father-in-law got one. Already had one, so laid the wreath on the soldier to the left. Sent a pic of the FIL's headstone and wreath to the boss. Said they'd be sure to see it when they came to visit. Then said they'd acknowledge the one to the left as well. Respect.
As being a person whos a part of the funerals in Arlington national cemetery it’s a very surreal experience I’ve done over 300 funerals and each one feels just as heavy
My stepfather is buried at Arlington. Shortly after I made OTM2, I made a special trip to visit him. I went in my dress blues and carried my share of the spent rounds from his salute when he was buried there. I showed him his troublemaker stepdaugter had learned lessons he had tried to teach me and was following in his footsteps.
I served for 26 years in the Army,My father in the second world War Navy My father in law the Navy and all three of my step sons in the Army and Air Froce that song brings back alot of memories of young men that I knew that gave the greatest gift of all thier lives for their country
Sweet Carol, never feel you have to hold your tears back. For many of us the tears are flowing too. One of my favorite quotes, “There is a sacredness in tears. They are not a mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition and of unspeakable love.” ― Washington Irving Beautiful song.
I live in Indianapolis which is home to Crown Hill Cemetery which is one of the largest cemeteries in the country and has a huge military section dating back to before the civil war. It is very moving seeing all those soldiers. I will get to Arlington one day. It’s on my bucket list.
I have an uncle (WW II) and another family member (Vietnam) who are buried in Arlington along with my neighbor's son (gulf), and being a veteran myself it hits home hard when I go and visit them.
Thank you both for doing this song and even more for your reaction. The young man who inspired this beautiful song is the one whose gravestone was shown at the end. I honestly can't believe that more Americans have not made it a priority to visit Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I know there are people from all around this world who have made a visit there as a part of their very 1st visit to the U.S. simply out of reverance for the ones who lie there. I appreciate the respect and emotion from both of you. I hope you get to see it in person some day. Stay safe and well!!!
I just recently went to Arlington, I have always wanted to go. When we were there our tour had to stop because they were just welcoming home a soldier who had given their all for our freedom. It was a very somber yet proud moment. Just being able to be there and witness this and to send my own prayers and words of gratitude for their selflessness was something I will never forget.Arlington is a place you would not regret going to. I am in awe at how spiritual this place is and I am forever grateful for each and every person buried there for their selfless acts of bravery and love for their country and its people. Love you both very much and appreciate your reactions. Thank you for being a part of my life through your work.
This was my first time hearing this song, and I know that both Carol and I ( and dare I say Recky too) should have had a box of tissues handy! The song is so very moving and heart wrenching... I love the fact that while 'some" young ones (both in age or maturity) wouldn't appreciate this song, ordinary people just like us who live in other countries, can so easily identify with the emotions expressed.
To all the men and women in the military that made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us free I thank you and may you rest in peace. For the family members that have suffered a tragic loss May God Bless You.
Thank you for watching this. My great-uncle flew rescue missions behind German lines during WWII, and he is laid to rest in Arlington. My father-in-law served in 8 theatres of war and is also laid to rest there. Arlington is a sacred place because without those men, we wouldn't be free.
Thank you for watching it and the wonderful reaction to it. I cry whenever I watch this video. Arlington is indeed a special place. I had the honor to visit there years ago.
Everyone should visit Arlington. The rows and rows of white markers is so moving. Beautifully sad but makes your heart swell with pride. My grandfather rested in a foreign grave in France for about 5 years until he was exhumed and brought home to Texas. He was killed in WW2. All the graves on foreign lands, graves at sea, graves in family plots and military cemeteries and there is Arlington. It's mind boggling and very humbling, the sacrifices made for our Freedom. All gave some, but some gave all.
as an american i cry every time i hear it, and tears were running down my face as i watched her - not even an american - wiping her tears away. thank you for the song and your very respectful reaction.
This song always gets me in the heart because it was released the week one of my best friends was killed in Afghanistan so it hold a special place for me and my friends .
Once again, tack, for being so respectful and touched by our history and traditions. This song brings everyone to tears because of it's meaning as well as Trace's mournful baritone voice to perfectly put this to song. Love you both and so glad I've found your channel, I will pass this along to all my relatives in Sverige. Beautiful reaction to a beautiful song, keep it up Recky and Carol!
I love this song. It is sung from the viewpoint of a soldier, killed in battle and buried at Arlington National Cemetery. It was inspired by United States Marine Corps Corporal Patrick Nixon, who died in battle in 2003. To be eligible to be buried at Arlington, the soldier should have received certain military decorations , such as the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, or Purple Heart.
This had me crying like a baby. I've never heard this one. I lost my dad in 2020 he's buried at the National Cemetery where I live. He used to take me there and tell me Tammy this will be my resting place. He would be so proud when he said that and it made me sad to think about losing him but now I understand and am so proud that my dad is there. I miss him so much.
You might want to watch Travlin Soldier by the Chicks. It is about a Vietnam war soldier. The live version has around 65 million views. It always brings tears to my eyes. The Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC is another incredible reminder of the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Like many American school children, I traveled to Washington DC to see the sights on an 8th grade trip. I was a very young child during the Vietnam war, so didn’t really feel a connection to it. My mom gave me the name of her cousin who died during the war so that I could find his name on the Memorial. I can’t even explain how it felt to suddenly realize that all the etchings on the wall were the names of real people who died during the war. I’m tearing up just thinking about it. Anyway, much love to both of you and the kitties. 😘

Nothing prepares you for the unending number of 'stones' on the rolling hills within Arlington Cemetery. Numbers are staggering, and the child inside you feels everything like never before. You feel your ancestors are watching ♡
I have been to Washington DC and have been to Arlington Cemetery, and I am glad that you respect our fallen soldiers .I respect your countries sacrifices for our world to have the freedom that we have today. ❤
with respect to the Nordic heritage, Arlington for a US Military member is our Valhalla. None of us want to end up there but we strive to be there. Im out of the military now and never earned my right to be there. Its a special place I urge you two to visit and see if you ever make the trip.
Recky----you are so right---no matter what country you come from---if you stand for the "right" reason and give the ultimate sacrifice ----you ARE a hero and deserve respect. I wish we still could say the Pledge of Allegiance in schools like we used to.
We have these beautiful National cemeteries all over America & any veteran can be buried there if they choose to be. They do not have to die in combat to be there. My brother & his wife and many of my relatives are in one here in Michigan. The 21 gun salute & the military ceremony they give the vets is a powerful thing to see.
Thank you so much, I lost many friends in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's nice to see even a non-American appreciate the sacrifices. We don't get to choose the wars we fight. Politicians do, we just fight proudly for the men next to us, so we can make it home. I lost an eye myself and over 37 wounds from an IED. Lost several friends too. Thank you very much 🙏.
Seeing Arlington in person is overwhelming! It is immense! The respect for these heroes that served in war to keep not only our country free, but other countries free as well is an intensive emotion.
We took our daughter when she was 6. We were at the Tomb of the Unknow during a wreath ceremony. Everyone was asked to silent and a group behind us was talking be loud. My little girl turned around with her finger on her lips. Soldiers came and removed the group and told my daughter how proud they were of her.
I love the way many of our US entertainers honor the veterans, in song and film. Makes me so proud! I am just a tiny bit Swedish, only 7% according to Ancestry, but my son-in-law, (who looks much like Recky) was more than 50% and his daughter, my granddaughter has those Swedish good looks, hair, eyes and complexion.
For all that sacrificed their lives for our freedoms this ex vet salutes you all and rest in peace. I for one am thankful for your dedication perseverance and patriotism unlike all of those that has passed I was fortunate to serve during peace time. GOD BLESS!!!!
Carol, you're doing great. I cry at almost any song about the soldiers, any story because my heart breaks. I only know what Eddie and his buddies revealed and sometimes I crash because it's something I never knew. I picture him and I lose it. You have a tender heart and I respect that so much. Thank you.
What breaks my heart is to watch non-Americans appreciate our culture, history, & freedoms more than Americans. Thank you for your love & respect, appreciated more than you know.

If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend you watch it,
Another great performance/video for Trace Adkins is "Trace Adkins on the CMAs With West Point Glee Club - Til The Last Shot's Fired"
Actually, Arlington was confiscated buy the union. Years later they had to
reimburse the Lee family.
@@MGower4465 thank you
US Army Combat Veteran here.
My moms parents are buried at Arlington national cemetery. My grand pa was in the navy during WW2
I love trace Adkins and I love this song Carol keep your tissues ready
Laying wreaths at Christmas is such an honor. Laid several. Went across the grounds to be sure my boss' father-in-law got one. Already had one, so laid the wreath on the soldier to the left. Sent a pic of the FIL's headstone and wreath to the boss. Said they'd be sure to see it when they came to visit. Then said they'd acknowledge the one to the left as well. Respect.
As being a person whos a part of the funerals in Arlington national cemetery it’s a very surreal experience I’ve done over 300 funerals and each one feels just as heavy
You cannot walk those scared grounds without chills and ad for me, tears. RIP heros. Thank you for your service.
Freedom isn’t free! God Bless and Rest in Peace to All who have fought and died for this country and those with hidden scars!!!! Semper Fidelis
Thank you for watching. I knew you both would appreciate the depth of it! Much 😘❤
My stepfather is buried at Arlington. Shortly after I made OTM2, I made a special trip to visit him. I went in my dress blues and carried my share of the spent rounds from his salute when he was buried there. I showed him his troublemaker stepdaugter had learned lessons he had tried to teach me and was following in his footsteps.
This song makes me tear up.
I have an uncle buried there. I was named after him. I cry every time I hear it. Thank you.
They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition and of unspeakable love.”
― Washington Irving
Beautiful song.
Just being able to be there and witness this and to send my own prayers and words of gratitude for their selflessness was something I will never forget.Arlington is a place you
would not regret going to. I am
in awe at how spiritual this
place is and I am forever
grateful for each and every
person buried there for their selfless acts of bravery and love for their country and its people. Love you both very much and appreciate your reactions. Thank you for being a part of my life through your work.
I am a proud American this song made me cry. I agree with you about this song Arlington.
When you visit Arlington tears run down your cheeks before you realize it. ❤️💙🥲🇺🇸
So emotional 😢 gets me every time. His voice is like melted butter 🫶🇺🇸⚓️
I'm not a hero but I sure as hell served with s few that are buried in Arlington! Semper Fidelis my brothers and sisters!!
He’s a great country artist. This cemetery is our most important cemetery in our nation
Thank you for watching this. My great-uncle flew rescue missions behind German lines during WWII, and he is laid to rest in Arlington. My father-in-law served in 8 theatres of war and is also laid to rest there. Arlington is a sacred place because without those men, we wouldn't be free.
The only time I saw my dad cry was when we visited Arlington. I'm glad he did. It made me understand the gravity of what I was looking at.
Thank you for watching it and the wonderful reaction to it. I cry whenever I watch this video. Arlington is indeed a special place. I had the honor to visit there years ago.
Same here,
Everyone should visit Arlington.
Incredible song and amazing artist, thank you Trace
Thank you for your showing respect for our fallen soldiers. All who espouse freedom can understand this message.
I agree. It doesn't matter what part of the world you live, some family somewhere lost a loved one.
I have family buried there. Patriotic americans revere our heros. I visit arlington when i can. We remember who fought and died for us
You might want to watch Travlin Soldier by the Chicks. 😘
This was sung in Arlington Chaple for my friend before he was laid to rest. Beautiful Song.
To walk the fields of Arlington, Gettysburg, or Flanders is utterly humbling. Thank you for your care and respect.
Thank you Carol and Recky for caring.
Good Evening Recky and Carol. Love You My Dear Faraway Friends. This song touches so many, many hearts.Sorry, I'm unable to help support your channel. I live on disability. I'll always give you a like. Love From Michigan and it's a Beautiful Evening ❤❤ Thank you so much for reacting to this video ❤❤
Another one that is beautiful is "If You're Reading This," by Tim McGraw.
I'm a Navy vet--wow, I teared up for sure. My family is full of vets, but none buried here. I hate when I hear the 21 gun salute. When they play TAPS==I can't take it--I break down. Love your reaction. The fact you appreciate this more than most Americans now is muchly appreciated. Thank you.
It's hard to type through the tears Thanks Trace Semper FI.
This song will bring the strongest of men to tears!!
Tracy nice job done, very beautiful song and very heart touching, and again well done Love you.
I am watching this on 9/11/24. I am in tears as friends from my office building, the Pentagon, are in Arlington. RIP Pat Dunn.
There is an American cemetery in Normandy that is quite similar to Arlington in design.
love me some Trace...home grown Louisiana boy
TY True Americans.... THANK YOU
with respect to the Nordic heritage, Arlington for a US Military member is our Valhalla.
My son is in the US Air Force the song "American Soldier" hits me everytime
Wow. That was a tough one. I had the privilege of visiting Arlington when at age 15. Even at that young age it was very moving.
Carol, you're doing great. I cry at almost any song about the soldiers, any story because my heart breaks. I only know what Eddie and his buddies revealed and sometimes I crash because it's something I never knew. I picture him and I lose it. You have a tender heart and I respect that so much. Thank you.
