You truly are a legend for helping out on low in come family's meals i work 8 hours five days a week and I am a shame to say I have to go to food bank's in the uk I always wach your video's to get brilliant idea's bless you and all your family keep up the amazing work you do thank you so much
Never feel any regret about using a food bank. If you weren't using the food it might go to waste. And Cheryl has often said that she donates frequently to her local food bank. Best wishes to you and your family Mark!
There is no shame to go to a food bank. Thank God they are there for people who are struggling. Maybe someday you can donate food to help someone else.
Please feel no shame in having to use a food bank. The shame is the government of one of the richest countries in the world being so focused on giving millionaires tax breaks and subsidies that any of its citizens should need a food bank - let alone those working 40+ hours a week. Take care and be proud that you are providing for your family.
Yes we had cheese flan for school dinners but we had a slice of tomato on top sometimes which I picked off and hid in a tissue then binned. The teachers would force you to clearer your plate.
I remember having cheese flan with a scoop of mash potatoe and butter beans with a small salad with warm salad cream pured over I'm going back 65yrs I'm differently gonna try this thank you x
I remember at school my favourite dinner was sausage and baked bean pie. Pastry on the bottom. Square sausage then a layer of baked beans then another layer of pastry. Used to wait all week for that on a Friday. School dinners were great in the 80s. I'm sure I would love this too. 😀 thanks Cheryl.❤️
Nice to see a recipe rather than a shopping haul. Not to say don't do shopping haul vids, I just prefer these personally. Keep doing exactly what you do 👍🏻 Shopping haul or recipe, keep making them and I'll watch them. Cheers from Kent 😊
Reminds me of a really easy quiche. Again, another recipe I will add to my "must-try" list! I did the mince and tatties for my family and was a success, so I know this will also be since we all love quiche! I will try to make a small crustless version of this for my diabetic daughter. Thank you for sharing!
Can you make this into a series? Doing old school dinner recipes? Cheese and potatoe pie was one of my favourites with baked beans! And all the yummy school dinner puddings omg... treacle tarts, fruit crumbles, chocolate cake or chocolate concrete with pink custard!
That looks delicious & quote easy to make as well. I love quiches/ flans so I'm definitely going to be trying this 1 out. I'm sure it's going to turn out great as do all.your recipes I have made in the past. Thanks for sharing Cheryl
Hi Cheryl, thank you for doing this recipe, it looks just like the ones we had at school, for school dinners. Im def going to make this. Thanks again!!
Hi Cheryl! I sent you my recipe for flan the desert custard a while back when you were looking at cooking things from other countries. This is so funny, because I have never heard of this! Someone at work wanted the flan recipe but was diabetic. I didn't know how to tell her to make the golden syrup without sugar. But this might be something closer to what she was looking for!
I remember flan at school, pretty sure we either got cheese & onion, or cheese & ham though. That was in the 60's & 70's. Also don't remember the edges being so high, if my memory is right the filling went up to just below the top of the pasty at the edges... that said the schools cooks used massive catering trays and fish slices to serve it straight from the tray so you rarely got a slice with any edge at all.
I thought this was going to be a sweet flan, so imagine my surprise when you said grated cheddar, haha. Then I realized it was savory. Looks delish and easy!!
Going to give this a go loving this channel I have made the pea and ham soup the square sausage and gravy the stew and dumplings all amazing yummy could half of this flan be reheated or ate cold as there is only 2 of us it would be too much?
I love making this it's so yummy however my family don't agree 🙃 so don't make it often but it's a great lunch and I love a bit of beetroot with it 😋 x
I studied one year in the UK when I was in primary school.. I still couldn’t foget this amazing dish😢I kept looking for many recipes until I found what it was actually called. Anyone know where in London can we eat thr tastiest flan?
It’s pale compared to the ones I remember I wonder if it needs a blow torch running over the top for some colour I dunno how they get the darker yellow colour colour
That's giving me shudders just thinking about the cheese flan from school, it was not the best meal going, I think it's because the ingredients were cheap even school catering standards.

Never be ashamed of getting help.. when the day comes just pay it forward and help someone else..😊

We all do the best we can don’t we? And we all need help at some point in our lives. There is no shame in needing some help. Be well and take care.

Occasionally we would also have the odd bit of onion in it. I loved the cheese flan .

My grandma made a variation with bread from a loaf with the crust cut off. It looks good with the beans!
What an easy and delicious looking dish.
Really nice , add mustard to the eggs for extra flavour . Thanks
Reminds of why I loved school dinners, except when liver was on the menu. I’m making this today, thanks for posting.
That looks lush.
I can taste it in North Shields❤
We did have cheese flan at infant and junior school in the 60’s.
That looks delicious & quote easy to make as well. I love quiches/ flans so I'm definitely going to be trying this 1 out. I'm sure it's going to turn out great as do all.your recipes I have made in the past. Thanks for sharing Cheryl

This is lovely and yes, I will give it a go.I might be inclined to add a bit of onion. This is nice for Lent.
Glad you acknowledged the original recipe, too 🙂
A delicious looking recipe. Also, a well executed recipe, a further confirmation that successful dishes require good skills and technique. Thanks.
Flantastic ! 👍
😄😄
I bet it'd taste yummy with sliced pepperoni/cubed ham on top; i like how versatile it it. You can add spices, toppings, etc. Great recipe !
That takes me back! So easy too. Thank you. X
That look’s so very good. I would love to make one for my family.
Oh, yum! Now I want to try this one, too.
Looks like a British quiche! Much easier, too.
School quiche , custard etc is made with dried milk it cuts the cost x
I'm making that soon. You always have mouth watering recipes.Thanks.
I’ve never seen or heard of this but it looks delicious, and I’m always down to try new things!
Tried your flan recipe tonight, it was delicious Cheryl.

AW thank you!
YUMMY. I can't wait to make this one. Do you ever make "Eggy Bread?"
Never heard of shortcrust pastry … USA Would regular store bought pie crust work?
I imagine so 🙂you could always give it a go, if it doesn't work...at least you'll know.
Yes, here in the US it would be refrigerated pie crust.
I studied one year in the UK when I was in primary school.. I still couldn’t foget this amazing dish😢I kept looking for many recipes until I found what it was actually called. Anyone know where in London can we eat thr tastiest flan?
That recipe screams “school lunch”.
OMG 🤣 because of your accent it sounded like you said I hope I all offend you well 😂 so funny to me ❤️
This already included in next week's menu.
looks delicious!! thanks ;-)
I have been trying every recipe I can filled for the schools chicken pie with soggy pastry and not 1 has come close any ideas on how to do it xx
It’s pale compared to the ones I remember I wonder if it needs a blow torch running over the top for some colour I dunno how they get the darker yellow colour colour
If you ever want to confuse an America, serve them flan. They will be expecting what we call creme caramel.
Make it a real treat and add smoked bacon! 🙂
That's giving me shudders just thinking about the cheese flan from school, it was not the best meal going, I think it's because the ingredients were cheap even school catering standards.
😍😍🤤🤤
Oh! I remember cheese flan from primary school and it was always horrible! Really watery and soggy 🤢
