Classy of Dick Clark to let everyone share the spotlight not just the singer.
Completely Agree. The guy was a class act even at a grocery store or gas station. We keep losing dudes like him and getting vapid idiots like Kimmel,, no wonder we're in the fix we are today.
R.I.P. Dick!
He did that with a lot of the acts he interviewed. He would sometimes even try to pull in someone in the band who was hanging back.
Notice the anglo pronounciation Pesci
Duck Clark is a dick…but he his job well
@Lazy Way I've never heard one single person in the comedy or music business bad mouth either one of these great men. Dave Wakeling of the English Beat called him a 'perfect gentleman.' They were both national treasures and are both sorely missed.
Dick Clark was very relatable despite the obvious age difference. One of his many gifts.
True.
When you watch his many shows Bandstand, Pyramid, Bloopers, AMA's (which I liked better than the Grammys back in the Day) or the shows that he's produced like GREED or Puttin' on the Hits, etc. Mr. Clark made sure that the spotlight was on the kids, the musicians, the celebrities, the contestants and the people who pull Practical Jokes
God Bless Mr. Clark
Dick Clark: the most decent person in show business
Dick Clark was always a gentleman interviewing rock band members
Dick Clark was real, kind, and a genuine article. He never pretended he was better than anyone. He only wanted to learn more about the talent that kept on coming at him, day after day, year after year, and so forth. He was not an arrogant man by any stretch, at least to his appearance, and in general, you cannot live two fake lives for long. He was at this time in the start of his 60's (mind you) by the time these bands of the 80s came about, but his respect for them was the same regardless of the day. I miss his restaurant here in Indy at the Keystone at the Crossing. A class act. God bless you, Dick.
wow !!! I was so obsessed with AIMEE.....I WAS AT THAT RITZ concert...2 nites! SHE OFTEN LET ME BACKSTAGE AND WE BECAME SORT OF FRIENDLY.....I sent her flowers to many concerts and books etc.....she SENT ME A B-DAY CARD! LOL....i LOVE HER.....SAW HER 16 YRS LATER IN BOULDER AND WE TALKED...SHE REMEMBERED,.....i asked her why she let me back stage so often and she laughed and said, "I don't know!" Will always love her.....
Thanks for sharing your wonderful story! I love her music too. Good to know she is as nice one-to-one as she comes across in live videos and interviews. I always had the feeling she is a good person. Must be, she loves cats. "Goose Snow Cone"
Great story, Rudy. I see so many great UA-cam concerts from the '80s performed at The Ritz.
We miss you Mr Clark!! Class act all the way...'Tuesday & DC!!
A man that knew how to talk with bands & bands that knew how to rock!
Amen to that, Mr. Clark was ALWAYS a Class Act and a TRUE Gentleman
If it weren't for him, there would be no American Bandstand, Pyramid, Bloopers, American Music Awards or New Year's Rockin' Eve and also, if not for AB, we wouldn't be listening to all those Classic Songs today
God Bless His Soul
Aimee Mann and Robert Holmes are very vibrant and upbeat here.
They used to practice right across the street from me in Boston at The New England Contemporary theater of Music.. Ironically I loved the song voices carry and wasnt aware they sang it. Great memories.. I will tell you this, This band would fit right into 2018 now if they reworked there songs. ahead of their time for sure..
Dick Clark was so classy on how he gave each band member some attention.
Aimee is so beautiful here.
She's still beautiful, aging has not diminished her looks at all. Her facial features look like polished marble.
😍😍😍😍😍
Still is
But still, not as beautiful as she was then.
She'll always be beautiful, inside and out...
They all look so young... and ready to take on the world...
I remember Aimee back then....she was so beautiful! And, still is!
Great band. Had a chance to talk to Robert thru MySpace (remember that? 😆) years ago, really cool person.
There were a number of people that have said they spoke with him on MySpace...Wish I was one of them... Lol
She was so beautiful. Such a great artist.
She is.
She is still beautiful. In fact, I think now more so.
vane personified
Great band indeed - all constituent parts ✅
Robert a great guitarist
Nobody better with the 🎤 then Dick Clark.
for the longest i didnt know whether robert was a guy or a girl lol
Me too!! Lol mystery is now solved
Lol me neither LoL
Kyril J I think her name tells you A I me Mann
@@susanxyz5730 shut your hole
@@animalmother5287 What ever, I didn’t manifest that name,,,, it did. Truth hurts.
Those screams for Joey Pesce. To say they were so talented, they were also a band of very good looking people. No wonder record companies were so interested (at least until the hits dried up)
add to that unusually half the band were Elves
Opening up for Hall and Oates on tour back in 1986-87. Class=Aimee Mann.
I love how she instinctively turns up the volume on the bass before the next song, even though none of it is live!
I THINK THAT THIS VIDEO is the first time that I've ever heard Aimee Mann speak. She SOUNDS like someone from Virginia -, with the slightly "Southern" accent that they speak-with there. The band "Till Tuesday hailed from Boston; but Aimee had just wound-up staying in that area after she dropped-out of college at Berklee College of Music.
Same here. I'm from Petersburg, about 20 miles North of Richmond,Va and she does have that smooth as butter accent from that area...
@@Jreb1865 Richmond at the time was still kind of oppressive and backwards back in the 70's (I know I grew up here). She even said her dad and stepmom didn't want her to play bass guitar because it "wasn't ladylike". The arts scene was a lot smaller than it is now near VCU. Aimee needed somewhere else to spread her wings and Boston was the place.
@@spider_hoss I don't remember it as neither "oppressive" nor "backwards" and I'm not sure how that has anything to do with the OP as it was about her beautiful Southern accent. And, BTW she still retains it...
Oh noooooooooooooooooooooooo! I had a crush on a GUY all this time!?
Eder Twins You had a crush on Robert? I mean I thought he was a girl at first too, but he is attractive lol
Ha ha ha!
🤣
Stop! STOP! Father, forgive this person for she/he does not know what she/he is talking about. If you took 5 seconds to Google "Robert Holmes (musician)" -- as any 1st grader could do -- you will see that "Robert Holmes is a guitarist, best known for HIS work as guitarist/vocalist/writer in the new wave band 'Til Tuesday ... [Emphasis Mine]"
Damn your gay!
aimee man looks so adorable!!
Dick Clark was the best promoter rock music ever had. And no-one complained that he hadn't been in a band. But today you do a simple website, people won't take it seriously unless you've addressed the U.N.
nice that the host uses a tube light to interview people
For your information, I know what good music is. I grew up listening to lots of music from the eighties and I actually enjoy lots of music from the seventies as well. My all time favourite band is The Cars, I am also a fan of Loverboy, Twisted Sister, Rod Stewart, Duran Duran, The Pursuit Of Happiness, Toronto, Honeymoon Suite, Donnie Iris, Daryl Hall, Pat Benatar, Kiss, Spandau Ballet, James Taylor, Rick Springfield plus many others.
See, I proved you wrong!

RIP 1929 - 2012
I can't find the word to can say..what a beautyfull girl !!!!!!!!!! Aimee ..love U for ever.
Aimee is so beautiful. Those eyes!!!
Joey Pesci is so good looking! They all were. Perfect for Mtv
Cute video . . what a GREAT band!!
Ironically I just watched the Ritz concert on youtube ,,,,and it gets a mention here ... small internet =)
He was very androgenous on the album covers
thank god i've always been into rock and metal. it spared me from having photos of me sporting one of these 80's hair do's.
Not so fast, I guarantee you had one of those "mullets" if you were into rock and metal in the 80s.
@@mhoroky nope
His last name is actually spelled "Pesce" but crazy enough it's pronounced just like the actor Joe Pesci's last name. I think the actual reason the girls in the audience screamed for him is because they thought he was really hot.
~Dutch
@Kolin Timothy Good question. I've wondered the same thing over the years, and have found out nothing. Wikipedia hasn't anything about him... It would make a good project for someone...
yes
Anyone have video of the performances from this broadcast? I’ve never seen it!
Always thought lead singer being soooo beautiful
Don't feel bad. You're not the only one.
Man, GE smith is as cool as it gets in the biz. Im sure that was great way to start out.
You can see clearly here that Aimee is not six feet tall. If you don't count her hair, that is.
Very cool and toured with Petty on his southern accents tour my favorite petty album that is awesome that band is cool
So... the song?!
Anyway great interview, hard to find these gems.
am i wrong or is the tall guy, the same keyboard player of Level42??
They must of been so thrilled, touring with Tom Petty.
JOEY PESCE should write a book.
Eliot loves 'Til Tuesday
Wow. They're all tall. Except Robert of course
I thought Robert was a woman. His hair and face
Hu Flung Dung Right? Me too..
That's what experimentation is in the 80's.
I'll take one of each of the guys from the band ;)
Me too!
American TRANSStand! Who knew?
Wow...I didn't realize that was a guy
Yup, I'm totally straight but he may be prettier than Aimee Mann!
I think you should realize that you are gay, that is no shame
How could you not know if you like the band . I hope we're not related.
@@robertjohnston5204 For real... It's not rocket surgery... lol
Robert looks so cute. Dreamy.
0:58 WTF happened to Joe Pesci he was tall and handsome!
Happy Birthday Aimee 🎂
Okay, thanks for filling me in. The only thing I was trying to say is that Robert Holmes is extremely feminine looking in this clip and that's why I was confused as to whether or not he was in fact born a man. In actuality he is a very beautiful man even though I thought he was a woman at first. As for Michael Hausman, I think he's very ugly. It's just my opinion. Joey Pesce is incredibly handsome though, and Aimee Mann is very beautiful.
~Dutch
Type it in.
I too had no idea until now to be honest.
Wow. The joe guy is hot
This could not have been from 85. Til Tuesday played the Ritz for the first time in May of 86
No, I am almost certain that they played the Ritz in 1984.
he's pretty good lookin' for an Englishwoman. XD
Why am I a douche? Just because I was telling the truth? The keyboardist's name is "Joey Pesce" and I am quite certain the reason the girls in the audience screamed when his name was announced was because they thought he was really hot. So how does that make me a douche?
~Dutch
It must be hard to be a guy in a band with that Joe Pesci fella.
they met in Boston at a party...hmm I wonder if they served tea there.
I always thought Robert was a woman -- from the first time I saw him and TT interviewed; probably on this very show back in '85. Not because his clothes or hair or appearance was particularly remarkable ('85 had far more genderbendy figures: Boy G, Pete Burns, Marilyn, and Latoya / Michael Jackson), but because his name 'Robert'. I thought maybe he was F2M transgendered. Not that it made any difference to his musicianship. He was a good player. But still, just interesting. That's all. No disrespect intended here. Just polite curiosity.
I did as well...lol. He just had very deliberate feminine features like some of the Glam Rockers and Hair Bands...ie. David Bowie, Iggy Popp members of Motley Crue, Poison, Cinderella, Stryper, and White Lion among others...
Aimee Mann = I AM EE MANN
Lol, I knew Robert was a dude the whole time just by looking at him.
I would have lost a lot of money in bet on that one.
Aimee is a dude too
Having graduated in 1979, I would have thought I'd heard of them before 2023. Guess not . And that's ok. They ain't Buffalo Springfield, and that's a fact.
Cute video . . what a GREAT band!!
Lol, I knew Robert was a dude the whole time just by looking at him.
Man, I love Aimee Mann.
I thought they were all from Britain 🇬🇧
RIP 1939-2012
2:02 I miss Tom Petty 😢
She had awesome hair BITD.
whatever happened to these musicians? we all know about Amiee, but what about Robert? Hausman? What about the chiseled clean-cut looking Joey Pesce? what a bunch...
I knew someone in boston area---she went to BCOM---as did Aimee...Joey was devastated by AM leaving them and as of 1989? was working in a 'boiler room' calling to sell magazine subscriptions...sad but true. I cant find him online.
Robert is Aimees Manager.
@Kolin Timothy See , I went by the OP. I meant well. Thanks for correcting me & The OP. 👌
@@kevinjoseph517 Ha, ha, no Joey was the first to leave the band after the 2nd record and is now a sculptor now.www.pescesculpture.com/biography
Back when T.V. was good
The is another Joe Pece? OH NO Mr. Bill!
What a cool band!! Aimee is just so beautiful!!
Ah, the 80s. When men looked like women and women like men . Big hair days. The worst gift Dick gave us was Ryan Seacrest.
Aimee's speaking voice is not unlike Denise Crosby. in fact she sounds almost excatly like Denise(TNG). ;)
Is that Robert or Roberta?
Ditto.
I knew the singer was A. Mann... but the guitarist on the left is a man too??!!!!!
She's not a man you stupid fuck
0:56 he said Joe Pesci?
@VTMCompany
I thought he was a girl too.
CARI CHERRY ON BANDSTAND
adams apple all around
" thats not woman man..."
" thats a man baby ! "
" yeah ! "
junk in the trunk ?
Let me get this right - you actually comb through 30yr old videos to project your hate? 😂 okay. I guess being ignorant in the present got boring for you.
They were paired with the worst bands to tour with for their image. They were completely different fan bases.
There's a genius in there and it's not Dick Clark.
Oh hahahaha! I always thought that the guitarist was a girl, never figured out that he only looked androgynous, and not in the vein as Boy George, Pete Burns and Marilyn.
no other decade especially for women looked back at 80's hair style;s and thought OMG, what were we thinking? all those HS year books are out there. yikes
Notice he referred to Robert as an associate and the other guys by male pronouns, he didn’t know! He’s just Pat!
I thought the guitarist was a girl all these years.......
@VTMCompany
More like Roberta Holmes
The band looked VERY Mismatched, the two guys looked like preppy boys, from a boy band, and Aimee and Robert looked like artists.. she was so pretty, Robert looked like a girl.... she is one of these rare cases where talent and beauty were not enough ...i feel she was without a good support behind and when Robert left the band was just crumbling
Holy crap the guitar player is a guy? Lol…
Wait what hang on The guitarist I always thought was a woman is in fact a man. It’s the size that made me convinced it was a woman
Robert Holmes is extremely feminine looking and he sounds like a woman when he talks. I wonder if he was in fact born a girl but had a sex change. This is strangely confusing to me. I think the drummer, Michael Hausman is very ugly but the keyboardist, Joey Pesce is very handsome and cool looking.
~Dutch
Dude look like a lady. Aimee's hot and still is. But they're a one hit wonder.
Is Robert a chick-dude or a dude-chick?
One hit wonder
How many do you have?
Just wondering...
@@Jreb1865, I asked another moron the same question. This band has great music, especially good is the song Coming Up Close, or the CD Everything's Different Now. Most stations play what they are paid to play, missing out on great music. Before these no-hit wonders criticize, they should at least listen to the band's music.
@@BlizzardSeeker I agree completely.. I can't understand why "Coming Up Close" didn't do better than it did.. It's just a fantastic song that has such a unique sound..
80s music seem to be getting more and more popular. Another great 80s band was "Berlin"...
@@Jreb1865 The 80s generated a huge variety of good music and bands. I've heard a couple of Berlin songs, that's about it. However, I won't call them a one-hit-wonder just because I only know a song or two of theirs. Instead, I will investigate their music this weekend.
Thought all these years the guitarist was a chick. After watching this I still think that.
