@@janelantestaverde2018 she was afraid of starting a family with worf.

Gotta admit ...Worf called her out. She was sassy, playful and defiant. But the moment Worf got serious about taking the relationship to the next level she was at a loss for words.
@@OneEyedKeys well... He sent him to his parents... And then DS9 happened...
Never bluff Worf, he will call it everytime.
@@OneEyedKeys Well aren't you the charmer.
Respectfully, I disagree. She wasn't at a loss for words, she said 'No'. She didn't want to be a wife. I also agree that she practically WAS a wife at this point, at least in Klingon terms, but if half of a couple says 'No' to the union then it's a non-starter.
@@p0pp4,

I love Suzie Plakson as K'Ehleyr. Seeing her as a rebel and wanting to create her own story, her own destiny made the character so compelling. I am so angry when her character got killed off. I wish she had appeared in more episodes.
When Worf says "It is our way," and Kheylar says "Not mine," I can't help but think of when Worf decides to spare Toral.
I never realized that, damn. I guess Kay'lar rubbed of on him more than we realized.

Riker: Worf you got some strange, let it go.
You know, for an orphan, alone in the Universe,
Worf has got a Human father and mother,
and a Klingon father (and presumably a mother)
and a Klingon brother, and a Klingon/Human wife, and a son.
He’s the only orphan who needs to rent a large ballroom
for his family reunions
Don't forget his human brother Nicolai and Jeremy Aster!
He's never really an "orphan" for long, since he was adopted immediately by his human family after Khitomer.
I remember in the authorized novel Q-Squared, when a male alien character who was about to get married, said how much he respected Picard and the Enterprise crew and thought they were good role models for being a husband and father, Q joked that only one of the senior officers had managed to reproduce, and he didn't even know about it yet (that book was set between this episode and "Reunion" where Alexander was revealed)
I don't think Worf ever understood how absolutely different from actual Klingons he really was xD
Also, these interactions make his interactions with Jadzia make even *more* sense - he needs someone to balance out his dour personality
I'm glad they finally explained it in DS9, the guilt he felt over accidentally killing that kid.
Michael Dorn used to complain at the early conventions about how Worf never got any babes. He even asked the writers to give him a shot at Troi way back when (which they semi-obliged later). Getting back into character development, Starfleet officers were discouraged from getting married due to the commitment levels and the need to change duty assignments often. Like many modern naval officers they kept the spouse on-planet or tried to get stationed to larger Starbases or Galaxy Class ships. In K'Ehleyr's case she was committed to the Federation Diplomatic Corp with the same issues. It required her to be in transit between K'hronos and Earth all the time. Not a good way to form and maintain a healthy relationship. Worf and K'Ehleyr in essence were married to their careers and Alexander paid for it. Not too unlike most dual-career couples today.
Very true
That was on Worf more than K'Ehleyr. She was busy but she would've been there for him had she lived. Certainly more than Worf was. Personally I think if Worf was going to send him away it should've been to Kurn
@@SportsSpeak73 lets face it, Worf was a great man, but a failure as a Father.
or as a brother
or as a son for that matter.
It was nice to see the cliche gender roles reversed here, where the male wants commitment and the female runs from it. But Worf was right, K'Ehleyr's tough attitude masks her insecurity. She's like B'Elanna Torres, conflicted over her Klingon half.
I actually saw them as two sides of the same coin. Worf does everything in his power to prove he is more Klingon than human, K'Ehleyr the opposite. It's why they clashed so much, but were kind of perfect for each other.
B'Elanna was an admission of how terrible a decision killing K'Ehleyr was.
@@williethomas5116 Belanna was also the "spicy latina" archetype but they put ridges on her forehead so you wouldn't notice
It's a nice reversal. I know people harp on about 'you shouldn't flip gender roles for story', but I think here it was done very well. It served an excellent storytelling purpose, and served to illustrate who these two were.
@@Jmcinally94 Kind of makes sense since Worf is genetically 100% Klingon. His being raised away from Klingons seems to have given him an idealized impression of what Klingons were supposed to be like, which only fell apart once he started dealing with actual Klingons in the civil war. It would be interesting to know what K'Ehlyr's upbringing was like.
It's funny seeing the parallels between K'Lar and Jadzia
Wow, it went very quickly from "I don't want to even talk to you" to "we will spend the rest of our lives together"
All 7 minutes of it. Well at least on her end.
Worf left standing at the alter, did not see that coming...
Must have been a challenge to cast a lady who could match Worf in intensity
It was what it was, glorious and wonderful and all that but it doesn't mean anything. Wonder if she was thinking that when she found out she was pregnant
A simple I love you would have sufficed.
Worf, proud warrior bold,
Tries to find love, but is cold,
His heart, once fierce and strong,
Now struggles to belong.
He searches for a mate,
But his attempts meet with fate,
His attempts at love, they fail,
Leaving him to wail.
But still he persists,
Determined to find a kiss,
He looks for one to hold,
A partner to make him whole.
And though he may stumble,
His love will never crumble,
For Worf, the warrior true,
Will find love, despite the blue.
Love this!
Well written
You definitely play bard in DND don’t you?
That thumbnail though lol
Suzy was terrific. I miss her.
The barbs ,lol
I wish they had kept her character for later episodes. She was awesome.
I loved both of these characters, deeply.
From this scene, I always thought K'ehleyr did not like when she did not have control. She was a player of games. I think she truly loved Worf, but as a moment of her life and under her terms.
Her free spirit, spawning from her human side possibly, rejected the rigidity of traditions.
Excellent unforgettable episode.
Half-Klingon or not, she was a hot dish.
2:13 holy shit, Worf doesn't know how right he is
Poor Worf, he is an honorable Klingon. It was good he found Dax. To bad that marriage didn't last. 😢😢😢
Yep, but that was Terry Farrell's fault... thinking she could do better and later regretting the decision to leave.

Everything has meaning.
Even when O'Brien is a meanie.
I have watched this a million times. Every time I do I always wish K’Ehleyr would take the oath and they would be a big happy family.

I have to say, I'm with Worf on this one. To couple with someone and then say it had no meaning? It reminds me of the women that go on Tinder.

Worf is a champion of virtue.
So basically unlike most Klingons depicted in Star Trek who preach honor but have none
@@teneleven2818 Ecactly. Worf grew up knowing Clingon culture only from books and stories. He idealized it.

So according to Worf, Kilngons don't have one night stands?
Nah they do one night stabs instead.
IRL some people legit don't believe in commiting one night stands.
Worf is not really part of Klingon sociaty. He tries to emulate, what he believes are Klingon traditions. That makes him more traditionalistic, than other Klingons and quite atypical.
according to Worf, Klingons also do not laugh.

I guess she is talking about herself.
Worf is a bit of a loser and really bad with the ladies. When he finally does score, they die. LOL.
Typical
Klingon feminist
This may seem controversial but i sense an agenda to deliberately avoid promoting unions between MEN and WOMEN. Were the writers against traditional relationships? Did they have another agenda in mind? I wonder what the writers sexual orientation was?
Uh no. This was more of the idea that a woman may want to flirt, play etc but not committ and that is her right. So its more a feminism matter here. Remember in our culture it is often the man who wants to avoid committment. This flips it.
@@michaelmaxwell2464 Well then i'm right. This is a theme all across Star Trek. Outside of Obrien and Kaiko... most relationships or love interests depicted on Star trek are platonic and non commital. I dont think that's an accident. Very deliberate. Only peripheral characters seem engaged in what could be xonsidered some kind of traditional union.
@@XTRABIG Riker and Troi was not platonic. It was a will they won't they. Same with Picard and Crusher but Picard had a fling with Vash. And Riker well to say that he was a womanizer would be too polite. Worf and Kehlar(spelling) had a son. Picard also had a fling with the Chief Science Officer female. Geordi had a thing with the female murder suspect. Data and Yar. So if you are saying no long term relationships with the main cast then yes but it wasn't about those relationships being platonic as many were NOT. Miles and Keiko were not main cast. More time was spent with the main cast on adventures so little focus was given to their love lives. Not the reach you are reaching since they ALL had non platonic but short term relationships. As is often the case with people in certain jobs, the main characters were essentially MARRIED-to their CAREERS. Besides Riker and Troi got MARRIED during the movies. Worf was involved with Troi for a while as well. Moving to DS9, he married Dax. In an alternate future Picard and Crusher were married and divorced. Well turns out they now have a son.
Gene was very much like this as well, while he was married to Majel Barrett, he uh.....got around.
@@michaelmaxwell2464 Personally I don't care if they want to commit or not, just be honest about your intentions. Don't lead someone on until you get what you want and then bounce.
Typical; holding out for a better offer that never comes.
Would be better if they were at least half undressed when they are argued?
It's really a shame that they made Worf such a nerd. Could have been such an interesting character.

Picard stymied Worf's Klingon instincts because it was the flagship of Starfleet and they were on a diplomatic and exploration mission. Worf grew to accept this role.
