Don't you hate when you are fighting with your girlfriend, it turns into a sing-a-long, and the whole neighborhood joins in? I mean I've heard of taking sides, but this is taking it to a whole other level, am I right?
From a writing standpoint, it may seem flawed. But in reality, it’s highly plausible for these kinds of relationships to kindle and I don’t think it makes no sense. The weirdest part to me was Roger commenting on her looking 16 despite knowing she was a adult dancer and clearly interested in her sexually before she even said she was older.
Mimi represented the best and worst parts of Roger's past, the best part that is his true love in April, and the worst parts that are the AIDS he got from her and heroin addiction he got from her. It's also to show people can be the same and different at the same time. They are the same in that they are both young and dying of AIDS, but one is living each day as though it's their last while the other is trying to write one great song before he goes, effectively giving up every day in pursuit of an end goal he might never reach before the end that is coming all too soon. So they are two sides of the same coin and opposites attracting at the same time. It's a combination of making us root for them and root against them, catching both ends of the effective fanbase.

Roger, a guy that has just done a HARD detox for the past 7+ months would know this. He's remarking that even though he knows she's old enough to be an adult dancer she looks younger than that, and likely hinting that he doesn't mean it in an attractive way, which is immediately confirmed when he calls out other symptoms, which she tries to explain away before he straight out calls her a junkie.
I really like this film and this song is great BUTTTT it's framed like Roger is in the wrong here whereas Mimi is trying to enable a recently clean drug addict and while Roger doesn't want to go there because he's HIV+, she doesn't seem to care about telling him, while not knowing... Sorry to kill the romance buzz...
They're both flawed. Mimi going overboard and Roger basically giving up on life. They are both a little bit right which is why I think they work well in the end.

He wasnt sabotaging his happiness he wants to be with her but she was going through her own battles that she had to fight for herself and with the coping mechanism being in the form of drugs he couldn't fight that for her as much as he tried and wanted to he just couldn't do it anymore because he realized that it wasn't his to fight but hers but he was there waiting for her no matter what the outcome was going to be death or life but thank God it was life man woo‼️‼️😁
This! You’ll notice, Roger never said no to eventually being with her, he just said another time. He needed space because he didn’t want to go down the dark path again. While he was a bit strong in his approach, it’s normal for a recently clean person to react strongly towards drugs because they want to move on
