Chris Columbo did a great job with this movie. But his decision to delete this scene (which he explains by saying it made it "too sad") was completely wrong. This scene is the apex of emotion in the movie, and to delete it waters down the storyline. Plus, the song "Goodbye Love" is arguably the most emotionally powerful song in the whole production. I wish Sony Pictures would release an alternate cut of the movie with this scene left in. Yes, I know there are RENTheads who liked/loved this movie, me included, but even some of us who do are disappointed that this scene was cut.
I saw Rent 48 times in the theater and I guarantee Mark and Roger's argument and Mimi-s Goodbye Love and Benny offering to pay for rehab is NOT in the theatrical cut. It goes from Collins singing" I can't believe he's gone. I can't believe you're going. I can't believe this family must die. Angel taught us to believe in love. I can't believe you disagree. And the rest join in "I can't believe this is...goodbye." Then the scene immediately shifts to Roger driving and "What You Own".

I have big plans this year to create and lead initiatives to help people with disabilities, but have had weird medical symptoms (related and unrelated to my disability) the last month or so that make me freaked out about how much I can do, or even losing my independence. I went to the ER and thankfully I’m not dying like Mimi is, but I’m only in my twenties and don’t know what quality of life to really expect…scared my disability or whatever other medical conditions will consume me.

i really wish this scene along with Halloween weren't deleted because they are so pivotal for these characters. It adds so much more needed context so i'm sad they weren't in the film :(
This song is pivotal in the musical, and it should have stayed
One of the most important stories of my life
Maaann. That “hello diseas” hits EVEN HARDER. I had never actualle watched this but was curious if there WAZ a scen for it. SUCH A GRAT PART! I WISH THEY HAD KEPT THIS IN!! Actualle seeing it….
I honestly think that the reason why scene is cut because it’s an emotional overload or something is utter bullshit. RENT is supposed to be an emotional overload and to cut this scene (along with Halloween) is the very sole reason why some or many RENTheads didn’t like this movie (especially those who watched the original theatre version) in my opinion.
Yes, I know there are RENTheads who liked/loved this movie, me included, but even some of us who do are disappointed that this scene was cut.
one of my fav songs from the musical. ill never forgive whoever decided to cut this in the movie
This is one of my favorite part in the musical and this not being in the movie is Damn shame. I I hope they would put these deleted scenes
I will never understand this scene being cut from the movie..
I really wish they hadn't cut this scene!
I don't remember the priest and the dog, but I definitely remember this song being in the movie I watch. The whole scene
Right. I am so confused right now 🤯
I saw Rent 48 times in the theater and I guarantee Mark and Roger's argument and Mimi-s Goodbye Love and Benny offering to pay for rehab is NOT in the theatrical cut.
@@JohnMC61 I'm referring to dvd version. Not theatrical version.
@@second2nonebut1 Gotcha. I only own the 2-disc special edition DVD released back in 2007 and this scene is only in the deleted scenes special features. They mave have restored it in other versions but I only have the OG 2-disc release. Peacock is running it this moth and this scene isn't in it either. Thanks for the info. I may check out the Blu-Ray to see if it's been restored.
I still from this day don’t understand why they had the audacity to delete this version of goodbye love from rent 2005
One of my most favorite scenes/songs. The other one is Halloween.
Also a deleted scene
Omg this fills out somethin that was missing. Makes it make a little more sense
I love when they talk about the dog. Glad they put that in there to lighten the mood a little bit.
I loved every moment of the film and musical love
Thank you for posting!! This used to be included in the movie! It’s so good.
without this scene, the resto of the story has no meaning
am i the only one who vividly remembers this being in the movie at some point?
It def was. I have the original DVD and it’s part of the main movie. Was super confused because I just watched it on HBO Max and “Halloween” and “Goodbye Love” were cut
Dude, i really feel that
im glad this has been uploaded and it isn’t just lost, but im mad that they cut out another part of this song. when mark says “for someone who’s always been let down, who’s heading out of town” and just that whole part, it always feels empty to me at the end when Roger just leaves.
The brilliance in this movie
Scene never should have been deleted. Brings a little redemption to Benny
"His death won't be in vain, his death WAS in VEIN" Because Angel died from AIDS. UGHHH. 😭 The lyrical genius of this play will never stop touching my soul.
'there's me there's Mimi'
Oh man. Is that really what the line was meant to imply? I had no idea this whole time. That sent shivers up my spine.
Mind blown
that’s definitely not what this line implies. just vain.
@@rebeccapuretz9044 Yeah, come to think of it “in vain” is how it was written. Which, in a way, it makes it even more painful.
I had the DVD and I could've sworn this scene was in the movie, albeit with some cuts, but the whole song was there...is it Mandela effect or am I tripping? 😅
I swear I feel the same. Maybe we're both high or something...
DUDE SAME
I think it may be because the song is on the soundtrack anyway?
The deleted scene was a feature on the DVD.
The showed a vocal argument between mark and Roger in the movie but no singing
I agree, most of us have listened to the music so long that we just expect it but I feel the same as you.
Wonderful performance
“Goodbye love….hello disease.”
I have a physical disability but got a full time job and live independently.
I just watched rent and this scene is missing:( I remember watching the movie when I was younger and I always remember this song...
3:58 the way mimi looks at roger here kills me :/
@Blair Bart agreed
This is such a beautiful song, looking back at the stage performance and how I think spike Lee should have done this. However, I’m glad we got something at least :)
The first time i saw this scene i was like, oh, the movie made sense now.
HEY! For someone who’s always been let down, who’s headed outta town?
For someone who longs for a community of his own, who’s with his camera, alone?
Why delete this scene? So emotional...should have made the movie
You don't want to watch me die, I just came to say goodbye love...oh my!!❤❤❤❤❤
미쳤다ㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜ감사함돠 쏘니짱
was always wondering about this while listening to the soundtrack!
One of the best scenes in the movie. Cant believe it didnt make it in
I still have my original DVD when this was released and I assure you this scene is on it. Including Halloween. I'm confused...
It definitely was! I was just watching the movie on HBO Max and was super confused when it went straight from the funeral to the “What you own” song. I googled to see if it was cut and it said it was, but that it’s featured on the DVD under additional scenes, but I know it was during the main film
Lol the same
@@amandarodriguez5786 the DVD is write-only. If it was there, then it still is. (It isn't. It's a featurette, like everybody says.)
Jonathon is so happy
Mannn, that "No MORE!!" hits SO hard!!
j'adore cette scène qui parle tellement du monde et de l'obligation de travailler, je comprends pourquoi elle a été coupée.
I also wish they had left the scene in the film BUT consider "living in America" would play right after this, which would be an extreme switch of emotional gears
This song is the emotional climax of the whole show, I'll never understand why they cut it.
Biggest mistake taking this out!
HOW COULD YOU DELETE THIS SCENE
I believe they should of put this in the movie it would of explained about y Mimi disappeared and stop taking her medicine and was on the street how heart broken she was and how much it effected not just her but Roger as well
This movie put me in therapy
i feel it all
This song should never have been cut.
They literally got rid of Benny’s “redeeming” moments
Utterly reprehensible that this was cut
What a big luck, that this scene was made and is available. It is one of the most important parts of the musical.
this is the BEST song in rent! how could they cut it????
Why was it even a deleted scene to begin with? That part I don’t really get?
Sorry i got a chance, goodbye lover.
I cried hearing this song cause it’s so true ❤
My three brain cells sing this all the time
Without this scene the movie was gutted. It's the climactic scene, without it the movie loses almost everything.
Anyone here 2021
Of course
Always.
Of course. I know they’re doing a farewell tour right now but I have a hard time believing that’s going to be the end
I just had my fiance watch it for the first time. It went something like ☺🤘🕯🤭😏😢🤣😍🥳❤❤❤....😨🥺😭😭💔🤧😲🥰🥰
Nah 2022 bro
