Every time I hear Jesse sing “when your heart has expired” towards the end, it’s just instant waterworks. I know this is a movie, but this happens to so many people and it makes me sad to think about. This and every other illness
I feel you... but for me it's the moment Joanne starts singing and he turns around and realizes he's not alone and he sees his family... everyone who loves him and angel so much.
Truly heartbreaking. I remember seeing Rent at my community theater. You never think Angel would die. Then, all of a sudden, Angel is gone, and Tom loses the love of his life. Such a great character, and an absolutely soul crushing death and song.
My heart breaks Everytime I watch "Rent". Such a wonderful Cast of individuals that brought me to my knees, in Prayer, for anyone diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. My best friend died from AIDS and watching this movie, has helped in amazing ways.
It is such a heartbreaking moment in the film. When I first saw this in the movie theater, I broke down crying. The pure emotion in this song is just overwhelming. You could tell how much Collins loved Angel.
Have to say, I've seen the musical live twice and watched this movie more times than I can count, and I prefer this scene to the one from the live show. Jesse L Martin knocked this sucker out of the park, anyone who can watch this without ugly-crying has no soul LOL. Unbelievably moving.....
True I am soulless, love this song but crying is something I save for my cat dying and when The Doctor and Rose get separated. Not sure why the second one specifically gets to me so much.
The moment the rest of the ensemble joins in and Tom turns around hugging his jacket I break down balling. He looks so vulnerable in that moment, he's baring himself to his friends and coming to grips with the fact that he'll walk alone now
Thank you for who posted this. The movie was good. I thought it was earlier. In date. Still the dialog on this movie is still going on for some. I hope not all. Growth is important. New souls on earth I hope the lessons of the past help. I love this movie Rent.
This movie is definitely in my top five, it’s just something about this movie. I remember watching the trailers and every since I heard the song season for love. I felt inspired
I can't begin to count how many times I have watched this one scene. Tears well in my eyes as I'm typing it in. And by the time the first note is played, I'm just wiping away. I'm sure the actors rehearsed the scene plenty of times to just sing it through. But, I don't want to get over the emotions I feel watching and listening to this. Faith in knowing love and dedication does exists!
No matter how many times I watch this clip, I get chills at 3:58 when everyone starts singing. Without fail, I get chills. You can feel the love, community, and heartbreak that everyone went through not only in this scene, but what it must have been like to live during this time in history. Nothing like it.
I'm sorry to all the other actors who have portrayed Collins, but Jesse L Martin is the definitive Collins. Especially when it comes to this song. He sang his heart out. You just feel. You eyes don't at least water up, you are a Vulcan.
Can anyone just stop and see how transformative and amazing this story would look, having nothing changed but the she/he of the conversation being changed (obviously gender bent as well to match the conversation)? Omg someone FOR THE LOVE OF HUMANITY AND CURIOSITY make this idea come to fruition! If Helluva Boss taught me anything, it's that controversial ideas can become viral
For a long time after this movie came out I sang along but had not read official lyrics or putnkn subtitles. I thought the song ended with him singing "I will cover you all" bringing the group of Angel's friends together of Angel covering them, of Collins covering them. I still like to sing "all"
@@syd1762 and then the actress that played Joanne in this movie, went on to play Joanne on Broadway until the show closed. This movie landed her the role on Broadway.
That rode the back of the subway dangerously and crossed the track to be that respectful and black with a puerti rican man who did gymnastic lets go then !
Can someone explain the "Circle Line"? Every production I've seen, even not in New York gets a laugh when Mark mentions the Circle Line and I never understood why.
I wonder what denomination this church is. My best bet is either Lutheran or Episcopalian and I know it isn’t Catholic because there would have been more statues and there would be a crucifix instead of a cross.
im so late lmao but i just started watching this moive and i didnt cry when she died only when mimi was gonna die and i think its funny bc the angel part is so sad
This musical means so much to me as a person, like I have every song in my head playing on repeat. Also, every time a transphobes starts giving me shit I just say, 'I was more of a man than you will ever be and more of a woman you'll ever get!'
Serious question here. Been a renthead since the beginning. It was my understanding that angel was gay man and a drag queen. When he was in drag, he used she/her pronouns. When we are introduced to angel, he was not in drag and he referred to himself as a “boy”. When he died, he was not in drag. Obviously, in modern times, everyone wants to make angel into transwoman. If they do, aren’t they erasing the identity of two main gay characters in the show - angel and Tom collins? This is a serious issue in the trans ideology. Most people who are led to believe they are trans are just gay. We see this with countless stories of detransitioners. In Iran, it’s preferable to be transgender (and forced to have surgery) than being gay. I’m all for inclusion, but the trans ideology conflicts with homosexuality and erases women (and men) as we know it.
Ok, so were all hust gonna gloss over the part of the play where she happily dances around the apartment proudly boasting about how she made a lot of money for killing a dog because it barked too much? Got it.

It wasn't just a movie/ play, these were real people in his life! And I agree this movie was amazing! And it needs to continue!
Yes, Jesse L Martin slayed this song and had me in tears. As Tom such an amazing talent and voice...❤
That's a powerful statement!
Jesse L. Martin's voice is heaven sent.
She found him wounded and down on the ground. Love is love. I’ll wait. 🫀🤟🌈my favorite musical .
The story behind the gentleman who wrote actual rent play it was amazing
The play version of this when you see the spirit of Angel walk into the light is even more harrowing.
Mark changing vocabulary from he to she breaks my heart. Each of their stories is beautiful but damn Collins crushes my soul when he sings.
Truly heartbreaking. I remember seeing Rent at my community theater. You never think Angel would die. Then, all of a sudden, Angel is gone, and Tom loses the love of his life. Such a great character, and an absolutely soul crushing death and song.

Thank you, Jonathan Larson, for this work of art. I only wish you had lived to see it gain the traction it deserved. It’s a masterpiece

i konw you feel you miss your best friend i konw your heart breaks eveytime i konw that
That lingering note at the end just breaks my heart for him.
I will have to admit it is one of the best scenes of the movie
I don’t know why I’m torturing myself by watching this every once in a while and it’s always instant waterworks every single damn time.
I've seen this on stage 6 times. The first time was with the original cast, so grateful that I was able to.
I haven't even watched the movie, but somehow I am crying, listening the music and seeing the expression of the actors.
It is such a heartbreaking moment in the film. When I first saw this in the movie theater, I broke down crying. The pure emotion in this song is just overwhelming. You could tell how much Collins loved Angel.
I saw it in theaters. I highly recommend if you can handle the emotional journey. It’s so good. I can only imagine seeing this live 🔥.
I've ugly cried with both the movie and the play. But, sometimes you need that cry.
If you have seen the play, please watch the movie. It will give you a different perspective
I come to this song when I’m sad and lonely. Every single time.

I love when Tracee and Adam come in with the harmonies.
Easily one of the most emotional scenes of any movie. Still breaks my heart every time.

all the music and songs were great
this is the saddest part of the movie
I think the saddest part for me is when they show Angel dead in Collins's arms right before Without You song ends.

It’s Mark not punching down, upset about it, or making it Angel’s problem, correcting his pronouns for Her.
