Deluxe Leather Card Holder - Leather Craft

- In this leather craft video I make a tooled leather card holder with hidden closure hardware. The exterior of the holder has been intricately carved and tooled within each section to create a quilted pattern look. Each section is then dyed using a hand-rubbed dye technique that transitions from a lighter shade in the middle of each section to a darker shade along the borders. Magnetic snaps help hold the card holder securely shut and are not visible from the exterior. The holder is completely hand stitched together using red Tiger thread for a pop of color. The basic dimension for creating the pattern can be found at the end of the video. I hope you enjoy the video and get inspired to design and make one of your own.

the bag is really gorgeous❤❤❤❤❤❤, it only has one small flaw. I would never add magnets to a bag for cards. Magnets do really scary things. And that can be really expensive.

hmm I was thinking to try a stamping method but after seeing how many different dyes and finishes you used, I might stick to classic leathercrafting 😅 Good job btw

Thanks. It is always a good idea to allow as much time as possible between different finishes. Not that big a deal between different dyes in my opinion.

I see this and I ask myself how much more would one of these be to make if I had chose to line it with RFID blocking material; I know its possible to acquire an affordable version in neutral tones (mostly fabrics intended to be used as purse liners) but a thin enough material would be effortless and help prevent snagging on the clips of the magnet clasps. It would increase the value of the wallet as well but is it something that is finically beneficial hmmm I see a possible video on the topic with a little number crunching.
I really meant for this to be used to storing business cards more than credit cards. But that would be a good idea if one was to use it for that purpose.

Yes it is a lot of work. The project and the filming I was able to do in one day for this small of a project. The editing, photography and upload took three additional days of work.

What was the purpose of the clear plastic on the back of the leather while you were tooling it?
Taping the back helps prevent the wet leather from stretching and deforming while tooling.
