Thought I could do this without a UA-cam tutorial lol..... Glad I tried on scrap leather before using the prepared pieces for the wallet I'm making because my lines are HORRIBLE 😂
    Thanks for the tips
Edit: That border around the maker mark was craaaaaazyyyyy!!! Good job!!

Well slap me silly! I was trying to stamp my basket weave without the full overlap and always had to go back and clean up the connections. Now I am going to border stamp everything in my shop!! Thank you!!

thank you for explaining why you put the tape on the back, I've seen so many ppl do that but they didn't say why, i did my first stamp and i could have sore it stretched, well, watching your video I finally realized that it stretched when I stamped it, thankfully its not noticeable =)

I was just messing with a basket weave stamp tho a morning for the first time. I thought you overlap both straight pieces to make a tighter weave. This does look nicer. Excellently timed.

Good video. It looks like you didn't start border stamp right in the corner which is critical. I'm just starting and boy I've had my issues and border stamping is one... where exactly to start, do you ever overlap, fading out in proper places, etc. This video helped a lot with that. Thanks.

I love basketweave patterns, thanks for making this. I've always wanted to make a wallet with a basketweave stamp pattern like this. I was wondering though, how do you finish a piece like this? Can you do a two tone colour effect? And would you finish it before stitching it to the rest of the wallet?

@@makersleathersupply1220 thanks! What is the minimum thickness needed to be able to tool leather? e.g. for a wallet exterior or cardholder, what would be the minimum thickness needed?

@@jayplays568 that depends on experience. If you're careful, tooling on 2-3oz is no issue.

I have found that the handles on most stamps are not large enough. Also, I would like to "index" my tools by adding a flat that is parallel with the tool mark or in this case with the long sides of the stamp. Does anyone else have issues with small handle tools? I tend to not be able to keep aligned and tool will rotate slightly.

    • @makersleathersupply1220

First off they'd have to be Vegetable Tanned Leather, which is rigid and difficult to upholster with. My suggestion would be doing the seats of a normal upholstery leather and doing patches out of the veg tan.
