Doooood at 12 mins in the video that calcified rock looks like an elephant and next to it looks like a monkey head have you discovered an important new dig site cant be a coincidence surely please take a closer look
Mmm, Or are these slabs the bedrock from long ago, that had boulders on them being ground round under water, wearing holes in the rock, The river digs deeper, leaving the bedrock exposed ??
chigg in the rain in a desert canyon.......these are the episodes I'll put on and watch for years to come, just enjoying the vibe , reminds me again how much of an inspiration you have been to my UA-cam career. thank you !!
I'm sure that these were indeed used as you describe but in the setting of a riverbed I believe these are more likely a natural phenomenon where there is a stone harder then the baserock that tumbles around in the indent in the rock due to river current and essentially drills those holes over time.
That is probably true in most place, but not in Arizona. You find ruins, you’ll find grinding holes, mostly next to a river or creek or in the bed. The women worked next to or in the water because it was hot. I mean wouldn’t you? I’m a born and raised native here in Arizona, it’s hot!🔥
It is more likely a combination of the 2. Probaly more grinding than the rocks. You have to realize the women probably each had their own grinding area. So a large village would have many many families, each with its own grinding spot. God bless
Thank you so much for bringing us along on these explores. In reality, I know I will never be able to visit those places myself so the next best thing is to tag along with the Chigg! Your enthusiasm and appreciation for EVERYTHING is infectious! Happy trails Chigg...
Once more you did us proud. A very great adventure. Things that I will never see. Thanks for taking this olde bloke along. Lost mines here in Australia are not too far far fetched as after WWI when 65,000 of my countrymen didn't come home a lot of payable gold mines were never reopened. Packed away for the duration and never came back. The returned men were disheartened we they realized the rich got richer and the poor were cannon fodder. They were not as keen as before.
I lived in Arizona for a while as a teenager, around the mid 60's. Have always loved that state and have immensely enjoyed your videos. Would love to see more of this type.
Chigg, It's amazing how long people were here, perfectly adapted to the environment and then we showed up! You are so good at reading the landscape... Them Lost Dutchman's mine, next! The superstition mountains, right around the corner from you, Bring on those barrels of gold !!! Cheers, Rik Spector
Love Az and NM..fascinated with the Metates..our family have always enjoyed hiking out in the southwest. Thanks for the video of your solo hikes. You don't mind showing your surprise and delight, no agenda but to share what the majority of people never get to see in person. Next best thing and real..like the "real part".
I'm addicted to rocks I must say there are very interesting rock formations especially the ones with the calcium deposits got to wonder how old they are. Very cool hiking spot. It's been fun !!
As much as you end up having to find ledges and caves to take shelter in you should get a platsch-palatka or a tarp shelter, easy to carry and easy to throw up just about anywhere, love the vids and look forward to seeing more!
You crack me up, Beau. Rat DooDoo and that's where you take shelter. Lol What a place of wonder and Adventure. Thanks for taking us along, Be Safe, Chigg. Loved how that one tiny branch snagged you and kept you from tumbling down. I know this is a crazy thing to say to you, But would you please try not to tempt fate so often?
Just stared seeing some videos of here! Much appreciated, I’m from the Kearney/Copper basin area ... grew up on the Gila and San Pedro .. look forward to more videos 😊😎
That's a lot of "meal grinding holes" im starting to think they are ancient footprints of people walking in the river bed nevertheless another great video HH stay safe and wish you the best of luck.
Definitely does seem like an awful lot of grinding holes for such a small area but then again if you had an entire tribe to feed (a minimum of two meals per day 24/7/365) I suppose there would have been a lot of grinding going on.
The thing about Metates in AZ riverbeds is that it can be a bit tough to tell if it's an actual Metate - or if a hard smaller stone was trapped in a once smaller, naturally occurring hole and then proceeded (over the course of many Hundreds of years) to erode it into a bigger oval or roundish shaped hole. Water over time is an amazingly powerful force. Not to say these aren't real, once used by people, Metates. They could be.
in the cortez, durango area of colorado(next to mesa verde, almost my nephew built a house. when he dug the trench for his foundation up came a HUGE metata. no mano. and he made the tranches for his sprinkler system there was so much worked stone it was ridiculous. we walked along the highway another time, and found SO much pottery shards. it breaks my heart to know someone worked hard to make those things and even tried to add some beauty to the finished product. and there lies the results of all the hard work. you cant dig ANYWHERE there w/o digging up tons of artifacts. in that valley, if its on your property, its yours. thats how much there is.
loving this AZ sires. im a Az native , luv to see you show how Az isnt just a sandy desert ,, great vid , im in s.e. az on a beautiful cattle ranch w native ruins and artifacts everywhere im very lucky to be here
Thank to take all of us with you in this amazing places👍 i was thinking about kenny M caves , it should be useful to create a map 9n the web where people can put pictures of the cecked caves and the coordinates
Great video Mr.Chigg this is the only way I'll ever see the beauty of Arizona thank u for showing us stay safe. ✌

Chigg. Dont be scared to do a much longer video while you're out there. Love these vids.
Yeah these 15-20 min vids barely scratch the surface
Agree. Folks will either watch or they won't. I'd love to do a walkabout with someone as knowledgeable
Amazed at the lack of wildlife, or even sounds of wildlife
This is one of the most varied and fascinating landscapes in North America. But I'll be danged if I would be up there alone!
And the weather can get really nasty in a hurry!!
@@PabloDiablo682 Missing 411 probably lol
Me too lol

Wow! The mortor grinding holes are spectacular

I enjoy both UA-cam channels, Quest For Details and AquaChigger. Thank you both for the adventures!
Aquachigger is a man like few others. He brings us amazing and beautiful things like metate stones regardless of freezing rain
I love seeing the metates. It makes it so easy to picture the families who were living there. Thanks for sharing!
Where's the family??? Used for many 1000 of years then stop???
Love the footage and the commentary

Yahtzee. Those are/were eddies in the water that carved those, not people.

I bet when the Chigg was a young boy in school he was like me, looking out the window and daydreaming.
That is SO FUNNY! I was also imagining him as a kid! How sweet. I was wondering if he ever liked to record himself on cassette tape.
