There is a reason the most of the endangered specie in the west are on private lands. Now when our friend chigger points out in the distance and says that, "most of that is public land". Well maybe it isn't. In much of the west the land is cut into sections (640 acres or 1 sq. mile) it is laid out in a rough sort of checkerboard pattern. Federal/deeded IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE. We get people coming through telling us that they ARE NOT trespassing, they on national Forest and that IT BELONGS TO EVERYBODY! Some even kinda get kinda snooty about it too... Or, they'll tell us that we HAVE TO allow them to cross our deeded land to get on the forest. No. Also, the only ownership position a rancher has on public leased land is on the grass. he owns the grass. he doesn't even own the water, although he likely had to pay to have it developed out of his own pocket. he brought the water for his cattle, but the whole area eco system is benefited by it being there. You're welcome "absentee Landlords". Other than that it's open to anyone. The catch being, you better know where you are!

Some do better than others at keeping it all localized and out of sight. But see, you don't know that because you live in HOA land either on or very close to the pavement. Or you would know how those cars got there.

Lol.. Back in 1992 I had a 1979 4 door Ford LTD and I had a flat tire.. it was a ex cop car also.. I was over 200 miles from home and I was following a friend in his car.. anyway I signed the title and put a note on the car window saying free car.. Have a nice day..

You going through the bushes reminds me of when I use to do that, the pin stripping as you called it, my truck was covered, but I had some of the best times going exploring like you are doing! Chig, you should think about buying small solar charging battery bank and carry it in your pocket that way you could charge your GoPro batteries while you walk. If you are out camping, you can just place it in the sun and let it recharge itself. You could probably get one of the battery bank companies to sponsor you. Just a thought. I love your videos. I don't know if you took specifically my advice on including more of the driving but I am SO GLAD there is more, takes me back to when I use to go run trails up in northern BC with an old partner of mine, they were fun times, now I live in the city and don't have a car. I miss it!
Yup, in that open range area you have to be aware of the cattle because I have had trouble with Bulls in Woodruff Arizona when looking for petrified wood and I always scan the cliff sides when walking through the canyons because of Cougars.

One time, an Angus decided to take a nap behind my truck and a Herford was standing right at my drivers side door so I had to very carefully climb in the passenger side door and cautiously start the truck and slowly, slowly pull away.

I absolutely enjoyed the video. Views most people have never seen. I have traveled very similar narrow roads in AZ with my dually, the pinstriping looked familiar.
Caltopo has the best maps and you can print them out and download them. They are also topographic. They show mines wells and springs and all the elevations.
The green rock was copper ore malachite is green where azureite is blue and some specimens depending on the location found and the brightness of colour can be worth a lot of money

Hey Chigg had I known you was in Az back then I would of asked you if I could of joined your merry little band of 1 and we could of went up to the San Francisco Mountains there are Salado ruins up there also some down near the Four Peaks Region up above Roosevelt Lake, I suspect by the vegetation of the land your at is up north near Flagstaff possibly Payson as well lots of Indian ruins and golf up there

I was looking at the google maps of the area yesterday, and those burn pits in the previous episodes are all over the place. There's at least low hundreds over a wiiide area, at least, i think those are the burn pits, seem scale with what Chigg showed us. The Indians were covering a lot of ground.

Remember that Indians camped above rivers and creeks so as not to drown during a flash flood. When you are exploring above a river or creek, look for black rocks that would tell you that they had circled a fire. You should find a lot of flint and quartz flakes in the area and maybe some good points, maybe even a midden or two.
