1974 Dodge D500

This is my 74 Dodge D500 . It originally had a 14 foot grain body on it with tall sides and "barn doors" on the back. I cut it down to a flatbed. This medium duty body style ran from 1974 thru 1977. It is quite a rare truck to find in the size of the D-500. There are other 600 and 700 trucks out there, but this is the only 500 truck that I have seen, and none are in the kind of shape this is. It has a 318 V-8 that runs great and a heavy duty 4-speed with the granny low first gear. With a custom dual exhaust, it sounds really good with the long tailpipes as you wind it through the gears. I hope you enjoy it. The music is Raymond Scott's creation called "Powerhouse".

Love it. I am looking at a 74 D500 318 4 speed with what the owner claims is 3k original miles. One owner kept on a nursery all its life. I would love to get it to use to transport mulch etc. Your truck sounds great and is in amazing condition. I have a 74 W300 and would love to see how different the two trucks drive. Love the set up you have!!

Its just a tried and true 318. Can't get much smaller, but I do see literature from that era that said you could get a slant six in them. I can't imagine how slow that would be!

Yes the gas tank behind the seat is the only one. As far as range, I never went very far with it. Maybe 150 miles round trip is as far as I went with it. It is more of a "get gas when you can get it the cheapest" things. Sometimes twice in the same trip. I think I got 7 or 8 mpg.

Nice truck paint job what you did to the bed on the back watching driving down the interstate and wonder why RPM your motor was turning while going 55 my truck has a 620 gear ratio in it wondered what this truck has in it hope my truck go more than 45 miles an hour

I like the toolbox on the side. Sounds a little bumpy.
I remember seeing this model new at the state fair of Texas as a kid. Coke a Cola used them as fleet vehicle's

Just bought my 1st dodge only cause I wanted a dump truck and it was only $800 its pretty clean and has a 4 speed with a 318 i think? 1974 D500 id rsther habe a chevy or a ford though 31 years old and my 1st dodge.. Yuck!
