Do you eat the seeds? I really like the seeds...and they do taste a lot like black pepper...adds a nice texture to the fruit, I think. Add some lime juice, too! We generally pay between $1-$3 USD for a papaya here in Mexico depending on the size, I can't remember what we've paid for them in the US because we rarely ever bought them...which makes me think that they're probably pricey.
I know I've bought smaller papaya in the US, but I have no idea what I paid for one...it's not something I've purchased very often, which makes me suspect that it's not a price I'm thrilled to pay at home in the US
No! The way I have grown up eating papaya is without seeds! Regardless of their nutrition value, the only fruit I would consider eating with the seeds is guava.
Eating the seeds is used to rid the body of worm-type parasites. I found this out the hard way - I gave it to my compost worms and they all died. I puree the raw skin and freeze in cubes. A melted cube or two is great to use with beef rubs for tough beefs. It's a natural tenderizer but using too much will dry out the meat. Enjoyed your vid.
great tips ...we did a house sit once with a lovely cat and a tub of worms...luckily we didn't have to do anything to care for the worms...I sure wouldn't have known not to put papaya skins in with them!

Love me some Papaya! Never had it before I started traveling to Mexico. Fell in love with it. I need to eat it more. The seeds inside are a great meat tenderizer.
