How to Eat Dragon Fruit

  • How do you eat dragon fruit? It's easy. You slice it in half and eat it with a spoon, or simply peel off the skin and slice it into bite-size pieces. The skin is not edible. The inner dragon fruit is similar in texture to a kiwi fruit. The fruit is filled with small seeds that are edible, they add a little texture, but for the most part they are unnoticeable. Dragon fruit is found readily in Asian food markets. The color of the fruit varies from reddish to yellow. Most dragon fruit sold in Asian Markets are reddish skinned with white flesh. As the fruit ripens the "scales" will wilt and begin to brown. The fruit will sweeten as it ripens. Dragon fruit grows in tropical climates on cactus plants. Red dragon fruit with white flesh is the most popular and primarily comes from Asia. Dragon fruit from Mexico and Central America will have reddish flesh inside. Dragon fruit is packed with nutrition and easy to eat, but I've found it to be a little pricey in the USA. How much is dragon fruit in your area?

Yeah but...you have an unemployment/underemployment rate of almost 30%. Extreme poverty, ostensibly free education yet 1 out of 3 girls never get past a 6th grade education because there are hidden costs and so poor families send the boys. I visited a major Metropolitan area and on the way to the market we stepped over many ... far too many homeless children in cruel conditions that made me truly mad. I spent a lot of time in Colombia (born there) and it reminded me a lot of certain parts of it. A few people with lots of wealth and a few more business class / professional class, and scores of poor who have no real prospects. Sounds like you're one of the lucky ones and sorry for any offense, I just can't get the image of those kids outta my head. It's not just the Philippines, it's most places...sad.

When I first bought one in India for 100rs, I expected super sweet taste but actually It Is one of a kind tasting just like water, yeah! I mean it is 95% tasteless but you feel the tiny black seeds crunchy and the smell of the skin: I loved it.

Funny thing is dragonfruit is from the genus Hylocereus. Being a true cactus, Hylocereus originated in the Americas it is just not certain where in the Americas. And now we are charged a "premium" for the fruit simply because it generates images of exotic and tropical areas. But alas, you are not only in Hawaii but have access to dragonfruit! :-P

I only paid for dragon fruit once...it was $1.50 and a really good size. Large mango size. I’ve always thought that they are fairly bland but very refreshing. Since they’re full of antioxidants, I still eat them but I like a bit of lemon juice squeezed over it.

Bought one of these on a whim a couple days ago. It was like 4.99 in GA. The cashier had never seen it before 🤣🤣🤣
Opened it up and found it was the red variety. It was pretty good, sorta reminded me of watermelon. Was not as sweet as I was expecting it to be though. Ate it though and am now Dragonborn! FUS RO DAH! 🐲👧

Tie knots in the ends of a few lengths of twine. Thread the twine through a tapestry needle. Push the needle through the rind near the edge and pull until the knot stops it. You'll want four to six of these around the rind. Tie it to your foot like a sandal. Voila. Shoe.
