    I open my first jackfruit. had no idea about the sticky sap. I glue my fingers together then I glue my hands to my clothes. soap and alcohol does not Wash off the sap. gonna wear glove next time. very delicious fruit. taste like cantaloupe or bubble gum. learn my first lesson. will try oil next time. cheers

      Kevin Oloane; Wrongo, I opened a totally ripe Jack Fruit and the sticky sap FLOWED out of it! I also didn't know about the sap, that's why I'm here, to find out how now to proceed. I'm gonna boil the seeds now.

      @@curbyweaver4606The sap seems to be worse if you cut the core in half. If you cut around it (imagine slicing an apple so you don't cut through the core) then it seems like there will be less sap.

When I went to buy my own, it wasn't very good.... it was a very strong taste, it was like eating rubber or wax..... it tasted alright though, and they need to make jackfruit juice because the smell is SOOO fragrant and delicious.

    I believe its one of the 'trade winds fruit'...there is one much rare, we call it locally as 'marang' and designated as the 'trade winds fruit' only comes out in season like the durian...early September till December...whereas the Jackfuit bears fruit pretty much in year round...we just create smoke from fallen leaves around the base of its trunk...helps inducing the tree to flower and bear fruits more often...same thing we do with our mamgoes...
    Hello there Wendi Phan...love this fruit too...we love to eat them out from the freezer...mmm...tastes like natural candy...;-)

    The proper way is to pick the cells from top to bottom without cutting the middle portion. Just cut a little bit of skin from the upper side and drag the skin to the bottom while you are picking up the cells. Yes it is essential to use oil to get rid of the sap. If you don't cut the middle portion the amount of sap will be very little. Thanks from Bangladesh

    Very informative and interesting! Thank you.How does jack fruit taste and can it be cooked?

    • @wendiland
      @wendiland  8 років тому +3

      Yes! You can do a light stir fry dish with the ripe ones. The really young fruitback (not ready to eat raw) is marinaded and cooked. Texture really mimics pork.
