I open my first jackfruit. had no idea about the sticky sap. I glue my fingers together then I glue my hands to my clothes. soap and alcohol does not Wash off the sap. gonna wear glove next time. very delicious fruit. taste like cantaloupe or bubble gum. learn my first lesson. will try oil next time. cheers
The Lazy Gardner let the fruit fully ripen u wont get any sap
Kevin Oloane; Wrongo, I opened a totally ripe Jack Fruit and the sticky sap FLOWED out of it! I also didn't know about the sap, that's why I'm here, to find out how now to proceed. I'm gonna boil the seeds now.
@@curbyweaver4606The sap seems to be worse if you cut the core in half. If you cut around it (imagine slicing an apple so you don't cut through the core) then it seems like there will be less sap.
Gloves and oil are helpful. Covering your cutting surface with a paper bag or plastic wrap also makes the cleanup easier.
Same here, learned it the hard way and the next jack fruit I did was with oiling my hands and big betty blade and it worked perfectly.
I harvested a Jack Fruit from my orchard today. It was too big for me 55 lbs. so I gave it to some dear friends who are from the Philippines'. They were so happy, I wish you could see their faces. I loved your video and hope to see more of them.Aloha from the Big Island.
+David Harris Aloha David! That is awesome! Wish I was there too! haha So kind of you to share.
This is the best and most complete instruction on how to open a jackfruit and which parts you can eat and the alternative cooking methods. Short sweet to the point no editorializing with junk that's useless. Thank you. 😊
Great helpful video! Started cutting into it before I watched the video. I had sticky fingers, seeds popping out, white stringy things everywhere and thought I better watch a UA-cam video about this. Yours was the perfect video🎉 I appreciate the tip about applying oil to hands and knife and suggestions of how to eat it and the seeds. Thank you very much❤
hello Wendi, i am working in a produce dept. here in Michigan and we selling Jackfruit, a lot of our guest is so amaze when they see this fruit. and because i grew up in asia, i have a lot of knowledge about the fruit. and thank for this vedeo show
GREASE AND A SHARP KNIFE…WHAT COULD GO WRONG 😂🤣😂
I love to take the little fruit pods, take the seed out, and and fill the empty cavity with passion fruit seeds and eat it whole. The tartness elevates the whole jackfruit flavor. *chef’s kiss*
I saw these for only $2 the other day. Really wish I bought one! Now that I know how to open it I think I'm going back to snag it. I really want to try it!!!!
Wow that’s hella cheap, Albertsons sells the entire fruit for $130
That’s probably $2 per pound…
this is how I eat it too...as each piece comes out, it goes into my mouth.
delicious at all different ripeness levels.
Since it looks like an oversized durian I was scared the stench of death would overtake my kitchen. Fortunately, I was wrong.
+
This one of my favorite fruits. Ha luckily my sister opened it for me. I got to thank her for it.
I'm from the US and saw one at the store. I didn't know it tasted so sweet or I would have bought it. My gf is filipina and told me it's really good
I have tried jackfruit before! The first time I tried it at my friends birthday party, I LOVED IT!!!! When I went to buy my own, it wasn't very good.... it was a very strong taste, it was like eating rubber or wax..... it tasted alright though, and they need to make jackfruit juice because the smell is SOOO fragrant and delicious.
Watching your videos is like watching from another planet. You have so many interesting things to eat that I have never heard of before. Thanks for enlightening.
You are so natural in front the camera, so pleasant and friendly, I can can tell that you love what you do and you love sharing. Thank you! I haven't eaten Jack fruit in ages. many many years ago it has been. I cant even remember when I last ate it. but it looks yummy.
Valerie Anderson Thank you, Valerie! I am so happy that UA-cam exist so that I can share my joy and passion with you. Jackfruit is one of my top favorite fruits! I hope you'll get to eat it again soon.
another good thing about this fruit that you can eat the seeds too by boiling them.
i do it, and its tasty.
nice vids .
HAHA!!!.I LOVED THE WAY SHE EMBRACED HER JACKFRUIT!!! A REAL FRUIT LOVER!!! :-)
nice demonstration... my girlfriend came home with one of these last night and I had no idea what to do with it
wakko4flacco 123 haha
I saw this fruit today in the farmer's market...... It was stunning, so I had to learn more.
Reg W How to Cut Jack Fruit - Do you have a Jack Fruit tree or Ever felt Yuckee to Cut it by yourself or from Market. @9
I have made a vegan pulled pork with jack fruit. It turned out really good
I have been eating these from a can since I was little only when I started working at a fresh produce store did I realize how big they were whole. My manager told me to carry a few in the freezer, thinking it was going to be easy I wondered why he gave me a trolley and large baskets.
Thank you! I really should have watched this video BEFORE just trying to open one up on my own! I didn't know how sticky it was until I cut into it and started sticking to everything.
LOVE jackfruit. Pretty trees too. Jackfruit curry is the best.
That Jackfruit looks awesome! Nice video!!
The Food Ranger gay mom
I love how much you are enjoying it! Makes me even more ready to take on the challenge!
I just had one for the first time. The one I had was on its way out as far as freshness, but it tasted interesting, and I think if I get a ripe one, it might become a new favorite.
this was helpful. Thanks wendi. I even did coconut oil pull to get rid of sticky from my mouth. that tree sap is pretty insane. but yeah now my fingers are sticky. HAHA super super sticky. using oil now. I think i'm not going to buy jack fruit again it was too much work. I got one for $0.56 a pound at 99 ranch mexican version.
Marinate it in meat seasonings, A1 sauce, pepper, garlic, red pepper, vinegar, salt, etc etc and will taste pretty close to something like carnitas.
A combination of jackfruit, pineapple and papaya make a delicious smoothie.
I planted some of the seeds and know I have like 12 small trees.I live in Los Angeles I hope I can grow this in this climate.
How did this turn out ?
Omg thanks for the help but my mom need this help her to cut thanks for helping I am glad you do this my mom was very proud ❤️ may sure to stay safe don't get sick 😷 wash you hand EVERYDAY that all I'm going to said so good bye have a wonderful day
I believe its one of the 'trade winds fruit'...there is one much rare, we call it locally as 'marang' and designated as the 'trade winds fruit' only comes out in season like the durian...early September till December...whereas the Jackfuit bears fruit pretty much in year round...we just create smoke from fallen leaves around the base of its trunk...helps inducing the tree to flower and bear fruits more often...same thing we do with our mamgoes...
Hello there Wendi Phan...love this fruit too...we love to eat them out from the freezer...mmm...tastes like natural candy...;-)
^mangoes^...philippine carabao mangoes are the best in the world...
You can eat the raggy stuff too,but it has to be cooked. My vegan sis uses it to make imitation pulled pork ,with out pork
I found one of these at a local store but mistook it for Durian (except no odor ). Then I got curious. I recently subscribed & enjoy your clogs very much. 👏🏻
Subbed. There's absolutely no way I could not sub after watching this video!! I recently bought a dragon fruit and I found your video on it. After watching a few others on the moss ball plant and luffa plant and this video just took the cake! I love how funny you are! A foodie after my own heart!
I just discovered your channel and loving it. Jackfruit is my fav, helped me lose weight and it's yummy
Is it safe to eat after opening it with sap all over??? I read that means it is not ripe?? What do I do with the jackfruit meat, pretreat them with oil??
Hi @@lolw2, usually the white sap does not stick to the meat itself if it's fully ripe. The color should be rich yellow or orange that can be easily separated by hand from the fruit. :)
@@ladyEnchantressGarden thanks for responding. whether it is ripe or not, is it safe to eat now that it is bought and peeled open? First time buying this fruit fresh and have no idea what to expect so was taken by surprise of all the sap
@@ladyEnchantressGarden also, how did you lose weight with it? Please share your secrets to keeping fit and looking good.
@@lolw2 😂 i would be very glad did lose about 20lbs for 1.5 months in natural way.. gather some clips tho and videos from "fatty days" till now. Will have it on my channel in a few weeks 😉. Unripe jackfruit is not advisable to be eaten raw esp with its sap. We usually cooked it or some salad asian resipe with vinegar, garlic, ginger based.
New Years resolution: try jackfruit for the first time
Loved your video, 12/10. Suscribing definitely, the way to explain everything in plain words and the friendly tutorial are great too!!. The bloopers are awesome too. Really helped me out when opening my jackfruit! And the music is nice too!
Pd. The fact that its only 4:17 is a + + :D muchas gracias!
the seeds are yummy too! Just boil and add a little bit of salt.
This was very helpful ive been wanting to try jack fruit for some time now so I wanted to know what parts you eat and don't so know I know 😊
I got about 6 large langka growing now in our tree. HUGE! And many little ones growing. I will cut and pull the skin down lengthwise and tear it off leaving the fruit intact in the middle. Then I'll pluck it out 1 by 1, put in container and FREEZE it! Yum! Jackfruit candy! Since I will have a lot, I will cook the in sugar and water, a sweet dessert or afternoon snack! How we do it in the Philippines!
And of course, I will share with the less fortunate as 1-3 pc. is enough to supply and more, nutrition for 1 child, in a day! Blessings!
while cutting this fruit never go deep just enough to cut the skin like a pocket shape then pull it off with hand and yes apply oil on hand thank you hope I helped some of you
Omg Wendi more and more I watched your videos. I'm drooling. We Marshallese *Marshall Islands* called them Maa. Thank you for sharing!!!!! You're the best on UA-cam!
+Dita Keju Aww thank you so much Dita! I sure love my tropical fruits and it's so fun sharing them with you! I filmed a few more of these videos that I can't wait to share! Are Maa easy to get in the beautiful Marshall Islands?
the doggo waiting for humans to mess up and for it to fall
I love this fruit. In Thailand I had it fried as a veg. Superb.
Very Helpful. Wendi is cute and funny. Great video.
Thank you for the concise, informative video!
It's Alien Pod Fruit! :-) Saw one in the grocery store recently and was curious to see what it's all about. Too messy for me to handle, but at least I can tell my friends about it.
It’s so delicious that it’s worth the mess and effort to me. Some markets have the precut ones. I hope yours does too!
You make it look so easy...it isn’t. I spent over 2 hours cutting and processing a 12 pound jackfruit. I’m really glad that I wore disposable gloves, because that oil would have made things much to slippery and I definitely would’ve cut myself. The center part didn’t just peel out of the fruit. The fruit is delicious, though.
I eat the seeds after eating flesh by boiling them in the water. The texture and taste would taste slightly like of the potato. :)
Seems like you did not watch the entire video...
I liked your video! It was a pleasure to watch it!
When your too busy eating and it too good you just say bye... 😂😂😂
WOWOWO THIS FRUIT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!
It's like a giant soursop. I haven't tried jackfruit yet but I love soursop.
Hahaha It's a lot more painful than a soursop. I love that fruit too, but this one is complete opposite. Jackfruit can be very sweet, dry but chewy. You can really squeeze juice out by hand like you can with soursop.
QSnarf best fruit ever taste like a mango and pineapple
You can fry this fruit with flour with a little butter .. very fitting as a friend coffee
Jackfruit is one of the best tasting fruits for fresh eating. The sweet fruitiness is just unparalleled. The fragrance is amazing. Too bad it's mostly cooked. It loses its luster when cooked, in my opinion.
unexpected jackfruit are usually cooked, but they have not developed the amazing taste and aroma you were referring to until they are ripe. When ripped, definitely best eaten raw.
I’ve never opened one of these, but I feel like I’d be fucking terrified using an oiled up kitchen knife. Lol
I've seen these in the store. They are amazing looking but I had no idea what they were. They're about $23 each. I was wondering would you be able to ferment them? Thank you for your video.
oooooo now i want to try making a jackfruit cider or mead
@@sirnuggets9666 So did you?
I think we make it like fry vegetable ! Ms Phan, did u just eat it raw.? Can u pl explain how it tastes like. Thanks
Vinod Bhatia Raw jackfruit taste amazing! You have to try it next time! It's chewy, very sweet, smells wonderful! You have to find a ripe one to taste sweet and without sap. Stir frying it with rice is so good too! Or eat it raw in a salad. :)
I tried one of these before at school their so good
The proper way is to pick the cells from top to bottom without cutting the middle portion. Just cut a little bit of skin from the upper side and drag the skin to the bottom while you are picking up the cells. Yes it is essential to use oil to get rid of the sap. If you don't cut the middle portion the amount of sap will be very little. Thanks from Bangladesh
There's no right or wrong ways...but thank you for sharing. Will try this method next time.
your dog so chill
I act the same way whenever I open a fresh one. 🥰 So yummy!
So wendy, what happens if i cut open and there is a lot of sap? Is it edible? Do I need to rid of all the sticky substance on the jackfruit meat? How? I have basket full of jackfruit meat that I peeled off and do not know what to do??
Oh my goodness! I’ve never seen or heard of this fruit! That piece u are looked like a tiny yellow pepper. Wish u described what it taste like. (Video #4 today)!
Jackfruit - the “Juicyfruit gum” supposed to mimic flavor of jackfruit. The fruit is actually very sweet, not a lot of tang at all, chewy, rubbery, very strong tropical fragrant. Hard to compare this to any other fruits.
@@wendiland you want to wrap one in bubble wrap & send it over night delivery. (I’ll PAY 😁!!) ?
I tryed this to day.. I have to admit it tok me 45 min before i dared to eat it as it looks kind of beehiveie and it freaked me out.
+Mattias Lindqvist Lol Hopefully next time it won't take that long.
I tried the canned jack fruit it sucked. gonna try it fresh hope it's a lot better
Hillbilly Guru I haven't seen good, ripe jackfruit from a can. A lot of jackfruit in cans are the young green types, which can be cooked (like the vegan pulled pork trend), but it's not meant to be eaten straight out of the can. Fresh ones are so much better. (If they're ripe)
it took me like 2 hours to peel it ! so late xD i wished i had found your vid first :/
+Volronalex aww it's ok. Next time you'll get faster. Hope you enjoyed the fruit! :)
Wendi, how long is it good for nutritionally speaking once it's been cut up? And once it's been opened, I assume you refrigerate the rest of it.
ive seen & tasted Jackfruit with an orange flesh , pretty amazing taste . It could be made into a good smoothie or custard , the flesh is too rich to be made into juice.
Sounds amazing. Would love to try that one day!

😂😂 that fruit give her one good workout 💪🏽 stay strong Lil Sis 🗡🍈 😂😂
How long will the fruit keep fresh and edible after being opened up?
Really really large fruit and a cute video. Where are the fruit available? I live in the south in the states.
You should find them in Asian markets...Depending where you are located, I assume Texas or Florida with higher Asian population would have it, or maybe Mexican markets since our jackfruits are from Mexico. Hope you find it and give it a try!
HEB has them in Texas. And Kroger. Sometimes Lowes
We have them in Asian markets in North Carolina
You have a great energy
Very informative and interesting! Thank you.How does jack fruit taste and can it be cooked?
Yes! You can do a light stir fry dish with the ripe ones. The really young fruitback (not ready to eat raw) is marinaded and cooked. Texture really mimics pork.
Thank you!
Wendi Phan you should do a video on how to cook jackfruit to make it into a substitute for meat.
Wow! A great idea!
Does it taste like pineapples? What does it taste like?
Awesome display 🙌🏽
Oh so that itty bitty party is the only thing you eat got it... (I was about to eat the whole thing besides the green part ofc)
jack fruit puts the smooth in smoothie
some will be a little yellow but that's only when it's fresh it means tree ripe when the fruit is ripe while still on the tree but it rear to get that in shop coz less life time those that is half ripe they get brown in some time while still in self I hope you understood
Hi wendi how did you plan one of those plants
was purchased from market. i can’t grow that here.
I and my family lone that fruit 😍😍👍,in Indonesia its called Nangka
Give your dog a taste...my dog loves it!
between Golden Pillow, Black Gold, Mai 1, and Mai 2 which one taste the best?
I love jackfruit!
You should try to grow the seeds
狗也會吃波羅蜜🐶Dog eat jackfruit🐕
Hi Wendi how long did you boil the seeds
Coconut oil is the best to apply in hands and knife
Which part u could cook ,the stringy part or the seeds?
In my place we have jackfruite that grows under the soil.. I wonder if its a fruit or a root crops?
I like it with plain hummus
I love jackfruit it’s so delicious 😋
Jackfruit Smoothie !!!!
I guess next time i see those alligator scaled fruits at safeway, ill buy one
lovely update thanks for sharing
I never had & heard of jackfruit in my life.
Thanks Wendi Phan for sharing. :)
This fruit is my favorite fruit its definitely a september fruit
My dogs love fruit. They can’t have grapes, but I’m guessing they could have this!?
