I love most Sonic designs but modern Sonic, specifically in uekawa's early art, is possibly my favourite depiction, it's either that or classic Sonic in the opening cutscene to CD
I like how he talks about every single classic design and then he just talks about modern sonic as if that design has always been consistent
Personally I really like the original paintings of Sonic from the genesis days and uekawas drawings from the adventure days the best but I’ve always liked the Marza planet models the best for 3d specifically, so actually you’re objectively correct and awesome.
I think if American Sonic kept the the Japanese quills, there would be not American Sonic hate (because for me, the main problem with American Sonic, are the “Mohawk” quills, and the rest is, actually pretty good)
I know right?? To me, the Mohawk was a MISCONCEPTION. It wasn’t an attempt to make it look “cooler”. You can tell that this is true when you see that they changed it through time to fit more with the JP one.

I don't care which design is better and I don't care what tone of blue his arms are, I just want a new goddamn artstyle for Modern Sonic because we've had this design since Shadow thefucking Hedgehog 2005.
You're actually wrong because the design has faced a lot of changes, yeah they share the same principles but Unleashed/Generations Sonic is eons different from 06 Sonic and those are from Heroes/Shadow The Hedgehog Sonic and let's not talk about Runners/Forces/Frontiers Sonic
There's actually an interesting variety of changes that make them different and unique on their own

Specifically this model right here 5:37. Though this Sonic model has changed from the lengths of his arms and spikes as well as his shoes in the more recent game releases but the overall design is the same. Nowadays this model is everywhere from promotional content to merch and etc. This model has overstayed its welcome so much that people among the Sonic community, including myself, is starting to get tiring to see. What I would give to see a more sleek and radical design like the O6 one or a more expressive and cool heros-like model.

I personally am a big fan of Greg Martin's Sonic, and they did such a fantastic job of combining him with the Japanese style for Generations, at least on the renders and CG cutscenes, I've always been iffy on his in-game model because he's just too round, it's like a stickman head with spikes, ears and a nose and that's it, they use it for toys and stuff.

i think while i really like this design's expressions when they're done right, the color theory in general is a bit messy (and i'm not talking about the fucking shade of blue), and the spines just don't lead to the feeling that the rest of the design conveys
