listened to the podcast with allan mckay, thank you for making this intuitive easy to use software. Saved us all headaches when compared to "other" simulation softwares... not mentioning any names
One thing I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND is for those that don't really understand the parameters just yet -- it would cool to just quickly explain youre adding certain things and then also why you chose those values for the parameters
I love the short tutorials so much! I never have time to finish those 2h- ish tutorials and this is just neat and easy, so good to pause and take notes during. Please keep doing the short ones if possible!
I kept laughing the entire tutorial, like how the hell is this so easy. It looks beyond good, it looks stunning! Amazing tutorial and amazing software, keep it going!
I just love you guys. I'm in the process of repeating your tutorials and dubbing them into Russian, and I want more people who are interested in visual effects to know that there is such a great program EmberGen. Keep up the good work. You are beautiful people!
Loving the end result of this - but I have to ask, how much of the simulation specifically is exportable for use in other tools e.g. Blender. I'm assuming we lose the particles and colour detail (or is the latter contained in temperature data)?
You could export the entire thing as an image sequence and composite it into your final blender renders, quite a lot of people do this and you can't tell the difference. Or you could export the VDB and have to redo all of the shading etc inside of blender. Particles are not exportable yet, but other blender users just composite those in like I mentioned.
great job on these but i would love to see more on how to export and use these into games with plain c++ (i work with a proprietary engine) or at least unity
Your tool is a 12 out of 10, the tutorials... uff kind of hard to follow and to understand what's going on, what reasoning is behind the decisions you are taking and almost bake setting those values, I mean, it's nice if you want to replicate the tutorial or to play and come up with something pretty and fast, but for professionals we need to understand how it works, what's happening, the how to, the why... at the end that's more important than a pretty result, we know the tool delivers... you could check Andrew Kramer AE tutorials for reference don't take this as a harsh critic or anything, again, killer software, I'm loving learning it, it's way easier than it seems, super easy besides Fume or Phoenix, it's crazy good
Watch our live training series for the thought behind the parameters. Talking about the why's takes hours. Let me know what you think of those! We're always looking to improve and I'm personally still trying to find the best way to teach the intuition behind this as that's what really matters.
Why does 1 notch of mousewheel zoom out the camera on Z axis by over 150m?? I had already set the bounds from 0-15m to allow fine control in the 10-15 range, but scrolling ignores and overrides my bounds, so I have to reset them every time. These bounds should have a lock button and be respected. When locked, the mousewheel zoom should adjust sensitivity to adapt.
@JangaFX VFX Software & Tutorials hey, I'm not seeing gpu particles or a rendering node at all in the new verison, I even opened your guy's file and the explosion looks completely different. Is there something I'm missing?
Yeah, GPU particles now are more powerful via the Emitter: Particles node. That's how you spawn them. Check out our mastering particles live stream we did some months ago.
Can we get these updated to the current version.... alot of the settings you are referencing dont exist. Emitter is split into volume and particle nodes and the render settings you referenced also no longer exist. Seems like there were some pretty big changes to the software and its very hard to follow and get a result even similar to what you are showing.
I plan to redo this tutorial sometime in the near future. We have a couple of shockwave presets in EmberGen 1.1 that are based on this type of setup that should help.
Please can someone help I've lost hours and hair tonight trying "Embergen tutorials" Does this software keep changing ? - or is there a way to add different inputs and outputs to Nodes as mine looks totally different and does not even have same connections, as above. 2nd tutorial tonight I've got 2/3rds through, then something looks totally different and I'm lost. Trying to figure out if I want to buy this in a week is driving me nuts tbh. I have no Input called "Modulation Colour" in any of my Emitters, admittedly I'm new to this software so any help appreciated.. I'm on Version 1.06 came out tonight, wish I hadn't updated, maybe its that? any ideas, cant seem to find and new tutorials that explain much, so if someone could maybe point me to something I can make from scratch, so I know what's going on (Not the basic tutorial saw that) or Anything to get something completed it would be much appreciated.
I don't know if you'll ever see this, but I cannot step through the explosion like you do. The timeline holds it's current position no matter where I move the timeline scrubber. Please help
When I try to type in a frame to set the keyframe to, like at 1:50, it just immediately resets to the original value. No clue why. I can still drag the keyframe around the timeline freely, so it's no big deal but it seems like weird behaviour. Was there a change to this in a recent update?
Is this simulation from tutorial should be real time on my rtx 3060 12gb vram ? because i get maybe 2 frames per second and dont know it is normal for my gpu or slow ?
I'd think that a 3060 would be faster than 2 frames per second. Are you sure that it's running on the right GPU? i.e not on an integrated one. Otherwise press CTRL + 1 to go to the lowest render settings as that's what I always run on as well.
1. how to export ti cinema 4d with shading? 2. I create scenes in cinema 4d. I want to understand when it is possible to bypass the export of vdb to cinema 4d. I would like to export immediately to the after effect. until I fully understand when this is acceptable
This is very cool! but I think you guys overestimate how much users desire stylized effects. I would bet most are looking to create realistic, impacts, dust, smoke, explosions, and pyro.
Well they have tons of them in preset area - this is elaborately "complicated" to show people creative ways beyond run of the mill fire/dust/explosion. Many actually use the stylized particles in product placement effects, game sprites, and kids shows :)
I will mention that everything in these stylized tutorials apply to realistic things. These shockwaves can very easily be "realistic" with the proper shading, slightly different forces and less GPU particles. Its the concepts of the tutorial that matter, not particularly the end result.
I hope to have an updated version of this tutorial in the coming months. If you have any specific questions, feel free to join our discord and ask: jangafx.com/discord

Your program becames more and more cool, but main problem with your videos is that they are targeted at people who already know all the details and you are trying to steal users from another programs, instead I would recommend you to target all people and explain more clearly what sourcing, vdb, grid fields, boyancy, etc means and I know that you've made documentation with gifs, but people who open youtube and see that they understand pretty much nothing, wouldn't open your documentation.
