  • On the MInelab GPZ 7000 gold detector, I do a simple test to see if manual ground balancing the machine outperforms the auto ground balance mode on a small gold nugget.

Hey Joe, just came across your channel. Switching GB modes, when the detector asks you to do a ferrite balance you should do it. Getting your ferrite balanced out as good as possible will provide smoother operation, so your targets will stand out more. I do use manual when carefully going over a known patch, but when just having a general swing around, I like Semi Auto.

Thank you for sharing 👍. I thought the 7000 would have picked up the nugget better at such a shallow depth.

Thanks. Yes, can improve the signal but can be difficult to operate in manual mode on highly mineralised ground though...

Manual ground balance was always better with the GP & GPX's as well. I always operated in manual & still do with the GPZ. Not the best area for testing with that EMI & cars going past. I get spikes from cars alternators if they are close. Funny how some are much worse than others. Yes we are all after that 'edge' in detection depth & sensitivity. Good luck out there. Interesting set of of videos you are posting at that location. About the nulling response of the gpz I can't help but wonder if the detector is responding to the hole.
Large DD coils usually read holes and indentations on the higher resolution vlf machines. Some operators use auto ground feature
to create the illusion that the detector doesn't read holes but they pay the price. Some vlf machines let you really crank with the manual sensitivity feature in the all metal mode and is most noticable with the concentric coil configuration.
Thanks for your videos. I hope you keep posting them.

Yes, know what you mean. In this case, machine didn't read hole in either auto or manual. Keep in mind this was a pretty basic test but conditions were the same for both auto and manual, so, a fair test.

The best edge or advantage to find gold with the Zed on flogged ground is to use the Russian made X coils & manual ground balance. Especially the concentric coils.

Are you speaking from experience? Doesn't seem to be much recent info about these coils on youtube. Would like to know more as they are pricey and adapter needs to be made.

Don't know - have used one breifly but not enough to form a personal opinion. Check out video's by NUGGET SHOOTER JOURNALS - he uses it extensively and has quite a bit of success with finding gold with it.

a big disappointment for the gpz being expensive as it is.(thank god i never wasted money on one). I personally think in fact that the gpx5000 with the evolution coil would do a far better job

The minelab gpz 7000 is completely surpassed by the long ranks for gold which are efficient and 20 times faster and 30 meters deeper than the gpz7000 which is too expensive 8500 dollars and 60 centimeters deep !!! minelab technology has become largely outdated for the search for gold !!!! I sold my minelab gpx7000 and I bought a Gold Hunter Ger detect 12 months ago and it works incredible and I bought it 3000 dollars in France for the Congo !!!! I am very happy !!!!!

I would love to try it out. Always have an open mind about detectors. Maybe you can send a more detailed report on how it performs in the goldfields compared to the GPZ7000.
