Mutt Lange had a huge impact on this highly talented group and it shows how good a talented Rock group can be with a dynamic and experienced Producer! Great Job, loved your reaction!
This album came out when Rock was at a low, recovering from Disco, then the British New Wave, which was full of synthesizers. Even though Van Halen was still persevering, this album was the album that pushed a lot of teenaged boys over the edge and said, "That's it, I am gonna be in a band. I'm doing this!" This album hit the reset button on Rock.
You said it.. they really DO represent the ultimate 'rock' sound.. I was a teenager of the 80's... out of the 1,000 top bands that made up the 80s. I really do have to say Def Leppard was my ALL-TIME favorite 80s band. Listened to them everywhere I went.. in my car, my bedroom, at friends' houses, parties.. They just had SO MANY hits!
Too many great Def Leppard songs to count! They are definitely in my top 5 of the greatest rock bands of all time. I love this channel so much and I love hearing & feeling these songs again through your eyes!
Rest in Peace Mr. Steve Clark. It was said best by a man named Malcolm, one of the behind the scenes people for the group... "Steve Clark was by far the most unhappy millionaire rock stars ever." As the group said, it all seemed to come from the fact that he never got a pat on the back from his dad.
Steve Clark was immensely talented, but tortured. I remember seeing an interview with Joel Elliott telling how he caught Steve trying to break his own hand before a performance.
@@stacywhisenant6242 I saw the same interview. I think it was Mtv or VH-1 "Behind the Music?" They said once he was on the stage and playing, he was fine. They also said that because of his drinking way too much that they made one of the crew named 'Malcolm' basically his babysitter. He was to stay with him day and night.
Banger, the changes are so on point. What set them apart IMO Was the way they harmonize together and the power of their voices and they are definitely amazing songwriters.
How great an album was "Pyromania"? This was the *third* single, after "Photograph" and "Rock of Ages". It didn't even crack the UK singles charts, which is really beyond comprehension. Your reaction when Steve Clark (lead guitar) lets you know what he can do was *priceless* . The Lepp have continued to be a fine band (and a strong touring act) to this day, but they definitely lost something when Clark drank himself to death in 1991. (Somebody has probably made up a hypothetical all-star band where each member died of alcohol poisoning. All I know is Clark and John Panozzo, the drummer for Styx…but you know there have to be others. Sad thought.) More Def Leppard? Let's see, you haven't done "Animal" or "Women" or "Hysteria", or "Love Bites", their only #1. And of course, there's the iconic "Photograph", the song that made them mainstream stars. I would love it if you would do the version from their 2009 concert with Taylor Swift (TS needed to break out of her country box, DL needed new fans and exposure), but I know some would consider that heresy. (Def Leppard were Taylor's mom's favorite band, which is why she picked them when she was offered a spot in the "Crossroads" concert series. It worked out well; the drummer's brother became Taylor's road manager, and since Taylor ended up breaking pretty much every tour record for a female artist, I'm sure Robert Allen made a nice piece fo change, too.) On a less-controversial note, I'd also love to see you do their cover of The Kinks' classic "Waterloo Sunset". Called "the greatest song in the history of the English language", that song has (understandably) been covered a lot of times. I love David Bowie's and Peter Gabriel's versions, but I think Leppard's is the best. JMO.
OMG Amber! You are vibing and rocking out just like me the first time I heard this song as a young teenager on MTV. They are the BEST! More Cowbell! Have you seen the SNL skit with Will Ferrel and Christopher Walken? This 51 year old fan of you both from Seattle would love for you to react to the skit sometime. All my love to your family! 💕💜💕🤗

Spent sooooooooo many hours n days listening to Def Leppard in 80's 90's AND STILL do!!!!!!! I'm 50yrs old now..A female..females loved Def Leppard! They were on fire in their time!!!!!
That song was from the Pyromania album...back when Rick had 2 arms (thus the cow bell). It's one of my many favourite songs from this album. The harmony in the chorus of the song. You were correct Jay! This was one of the iconic rock bands in the 80's. A unique sound that the other greats never copied and no other band (to my knowledge) has ever replicated. Proof...old school music with natural voices are the best. Thank you for reacting to this song!!
I saw Def Leppard on their High n' Dry tour in 1979. They opened for Scorpions and Ted Nugent. Didn't know who they were, but after that night I knew who they were. One of the best, loudest, and rockin concerts I've ever been too. Oh the days of my youth. If you haven't done "Let it Go" yet I highly recommend that song.
I remember when these guys first came out. The alternative crowd took them on their radio stations early on but Def was just too hard to stay in that category.
This has always been and forever will be, My favorite Def Leppard song. This is the one that started my love of all things Def Leppard! My Dad went out and bought himself the Pyromania album (cassette tape) I was 12 years old and he’d pop the tape into the tape player in the car anytime we went anyplace and the rest is history.! I eventually confiscated that cassette tape and it became mine. I was so excited to see that you were reacting to this one. I love that Def Leppard is one of Jay’s favorite bands. I’ve seen them in concert 3-4 times and they never disappoint!!!
I been requesting Gods of War for forever now and you are the 1st one I seen to finally request it too. Such a great song and a forgotten gem from the Hysteria album IMHO
Man I can still remember when this album came out! I went through 2 walkmans before the tape finally gave out! Lol. I still say growing up in the 70’s and 80’s was the greatest!
I love how you two are reacting to all these old songs especially the 80's hair band metal groups I used to pretend that a tennis racket or my broom anything I could grab was my axe.(electric guitar)I would be jamming out to Def-Leppard alot and the other groups you mentioned Jay when they were actually first out if you can believe it you guys are just now enjoying songs that I used to jam out to and have a good time with my cousins or friends back then and I like that you are appreciating that music now. I still listen to that music til this day. Hey Jay you need to check out and listen to Def-Leppard High N Dry and On through the night and Pyromania as well as Hysteria and the Adrenalized studio albums completely they would give you an eargasm bro. They have done it with me. It is never too late to get into the music from then guys keep it up! You guys will enjoy the music.
Def Leppard is pure rock, the superlatives are well deserved..it’s one of the few bands whose music just begs to be listened to over n over n over… Fire!
So, I was in a band in the 80's in the Jacksonville Fl. area called EXIT. We played around town at a bunch of local clubs and had a decent following. In July 1980, we played on the west side of town at a bar called Byron's, Wed through Sat, 2 - 5. Our manager was a chick that also did catering at the Coliseum down town for large shows. One night, and I don't remember which night it was, she came by with the opening band from the show she catered that night. They were young, as were we. They hung out and watched the show and drank and partied like everybody was doing. They were a band we'd never heard of before. They only had one album out, and it wasn't very good. The name of that band was Def Leppard. They were having some problems with their guitar player. A few weeks later, they made a phone call to one of our guitar players, Rob, and asked if he would be interested in auditioning for their band, to replace one of the guitar players they had. Rod said no. He's kicked his own ass every day since then. You never know who you'll run into when you're out gigging. I don't tell this story much, because most people don't believe it.
Just wanted to say hello!!! Great songs!! They take me back when I was in school hanging with my friends listening to these bands in the garage wrenching on our cars!!
I remember when this came out. I was a sophomore in high school. I went and bought it right away along with their first two albums and wore them out. Their first three albums are still on my playlist 40 years later
Love watching your reactions, you love Def Leopard like I do. I was a child of the 80's and owned all of their albums/cassettes but unfortunately never saw them live!Wish I could go to their 2022 stadium tour with Motley Crue and Poison that would be a show. Anyway you got to check out a couple of their earlier hits you won't be disappointed. (Let it go) and (High and Dry - Saturday night). Will be watching for the notification from you.
It's amazing how much Van Halen's first album influenced the music of the 80s... that album is why Motley Crue, Poison, Def Leppard, Ratt, and the hair metal bands even existed. Before Van Halen's self-titled debut album, the musicianship of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple were the yardstick for hard-edged rock and roll (none of the "hair metal" bands were actually metal). AC/DC (Bonn Scott era) also helped shape the sound. Having lived through that era, most of the hair bands were as "cookie cutter" as the pop acts they allegedly were "better" than.
I was just a teenager when I first heard these guys. On through the night is their first album.. and I believe most of them were only in their teens as well. I think Joe Elliott was 17... and they freaking rocked I suggest you check it out. Being a teenager in the 80s was freaking awesome.. I'm enjoying again vicariously through you.

Even though Van Halen was still persevering, this album was the album that pushed a lot of teenaged boys over the edge and said, "That's it, I am gonna be in a band. I'm doing this!" This album hit the reset button on Rock.
RIP Steve Clark❤️. His songwriting with Joe Elliott made the best music.
Mutt Lange had more to do with it than Steve and Joe.
I was 8 years old when pyromania came out. You guys had the exact same reaction I did. Freaking life changing born to rock! 🤘
Def Leppard was always one of my favorites. So glad you are reacting to them and reminding me how fun their music is.
Is that a Big Foot riding the Loch Ness Monster graphic? If so, best t-shirt ever!!!
Amazon has them.
@@arielcordero Thanks!!! I have to get one!
I heard this song when I was 13 and it completely blew my mind and changed my musical preferences since.
Banger, the changes are so on point. What set them apart IMO Was the way they harmonize together and the power of their voices and they are definitely amazing songwriters.
One of my all time favorite songs from Def Leppard. Thanks for the reaction!
Sad thought.)
More Def Leppard? Let's see, you haven't done "Animal" or "Women" or "Hysteria", or "Love Bites", their only #1.
And of course, there's the iconic "Photograph", the song that made them mainstream stars. I would love it if you would do the version from their 2009 concert with Taylor Swift (TS needed to break out of her country box, DL needed new fans and exposure), but I know some would consider that heresy.
(Def Leppard were Taylor's mom's favorite band, which is why she picked them when she was offered a spot in the "Crossroads" concert series. It worked out well; the drummer's brother became Taylor's road manager, and since Taylor ended up breaking pretty much every tour record for a female artist, I'm sure Robert Allen made a nice piece fo change, too.)
On a less-controversial note, I'd also love to see you do their cover of The Kinks' classic "Waterloo Sunset". Called "the greatest song in the history of the English language", that song has (understandably) been covered a lot of times. I love David Bowie's and Peter Gabriel's versions, but I think Leppard's is the best. JMO.
Original lead of AC/DC singer Bon Scott died of alcohol poisoning.
You're right about sound. The best sounding concert I ever went to was Def Leppard with Tesla. It was an awesome show!
I saw them with Tesla in Billings MT in 1988, still my favorite concert ever!
I wish you would hit some newer Def Leppard like "Slang", "Pearls of Euphoria", or "When love and Hate Collide". Many Blessings to you and yours.
Foolin' was the first song I ever heard from Def Leppard. Loved them from then on.
Jay needs to go to a Def Leppard concert!! They are fire 🔥 🎶❤️🎶
If you like Def Leopard's sound, try a 1-hit wonder AUTOGRAPH, "Turn Up The Radio." Fun tune.
Miss mystery was a mtv hit for autograph also
@@jamesoutlaw2043 I thought that was Black N' Blue not Autograph. Great tune either way.
Good song, thanks for the suggestion. Kinda reminds me of Bon Jovi in their early days or Ratt. Here's one (album) for you... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanix_(album), ua-cam.com/video/T5dpYTqyzrw/v-deo.html, ua-cam.com/video/tpwwOumtnaU/v-deo.html, ua-cam.com/video/hl-t5jE-SCk/v-deo.html, ua-cam.com/video/BJk3FrZP7i4/v-deo.html
Great one!
@@jamesoutlaw2043 Miss Mystery was Black'n'Blue. Great song though. I'd forgotten about it til you mentioned it and I went searching for it. Gene Simmons (KISS) managed BnB and the guitarist Tommy Thayer went on to work behind the scenes for KISS and has been their guitarist now since they returned to make-up and costumes.
Rocket , God's of War, High 'n' Dry, and Women are songs you need to check out from Def Leppard.
I been requesting Gods of War for forever now and you are the 1st one I seen to finally request it too. Such a great song and a forgotten gem from the Hysteria album IMHO
@@michaelderamo1866 I think they need to do the entire Hysteria album. So many great songs but not many get a lot of play time.
And White Lightning.
Also, Billy's Got a Gun.
Excellent choice. Thanks for responding to "Foolin." Def Leppard did do a video for this song if you want to check it out.
One of the greatest rock bands ever. Saw them play in OKC some years ago, it was awesome!
2:54 Jay I totally agree. I am feeling the same everytime I am listen to them. This rock gets directly into my soul
You guys did Steelheart already but you have to do their song “I’ll Never Let You Go”. You will be blown away by his vocals in that song
"Electric Love Child" is right up there....
I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see your reactions to this amazing band!! Your appreciation for this most talented band warms my heart!!
Never too much Def Leppard!
When I'm home not only do I listen to Def Leppard so does the entire neighborhood 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
Same here lol
I love Def Leppard, it’s bring back to the good old days.
I remember when this came out. I was a sophomore in high school. I went and bought it right away along with their first two albums and wore them out. Their first three albums are still on my playlist 40 years later
Did your parents kick you out of the house, and neighbors kick you out of the neighborhood?
I hear ya!🤘
@@ckobo84 lol. Nope I played it loud in the house and louder in the car or at a party
Leppard is produced very, very well.
Yep, produced by Robert John “Mutt” Lange. He produced a lot of big name Artists.
Mutt Lange was the hot hard rock producer at the time coming off a string of platinum albums for Foreigner & AC/DC.
@@chrisa4695 yeah he produced a 80's heavymetal funk black band 'Xavion'..check em out
@@tonyb629 I’m familiar with Xavion. I have their album on Spotify. I didn’t know Mutt Lange produced them.
I just love Def Leppard they rock big time. They are an amazing group. Joe Elliott as a lead singer they just epitomize the Rock genre.
Great reaction!!
Brought me back to my first year in college when this came out. Everyone owned this album!!!!!
I wish the two of you could have viewed the "official video". But at any rate, it's still Def Leppard ‼️ 🤘🏼💀🤘🏼
This is the track that introduced me to this band...... been hooked ever since
I was just a teenager when I first heard these guys. On through the night is their first album.. and I believe most of them were only in their teens as well. I think Joe Elliott was 17... and they freaking rocked I suggest you check it out. Being a teenager in the 80s was freaking awesome.. I'm enjoying again vicariously through you.
If Joe was 17 then the drummer was like 12 😂
@@ckobo84 I would have to check the actual facts but I know they were all very young. Age from 17to 21..🤔
You're not fooling us. You two have heard some classic rock before. Genuine love is an absolute blessing to see. Thank you for all your love for the true 💎's of the British rock scene.
