This is from their second album. They produced three before the drummer lost his arm. The third album Pyromania was my personal favorite but they had many songs I liked that came out much later than these also.
There is a solo that comes after this song on the album called Switch 625. Incredible solo by Steve Clark. Most times it's played on the radio and live, back then with both parts together, before he passed. Maybe if you react to another older song throw that in there as well. It's funny how you talk about this as slower music compared to Hysteria songs. At this time they were considered New Wave of British Heavy Metal band and later more of a hair metal band. They were highly influenced by Glam Rock of the 70s though.
I still remember seeing them in Phoenix in 1983 during their Pyromania tour. Great show. I was a Freshman in HS and it was my first rock concert. I think my ears rang for about 4 days.

This is my very favorite Def Leppard song! I had the privilege of being a teenager in the 80s and seeing them 7 times live. Thanks for your channel; y’all are my favorite. Love to your beautiful family 💕💕
Early Def Leppard, at least early in their US career. From the album "On Through the Night", which was in the collection of every self-respecting headbanger of the 80's. The whole album is killer, a classic, and a staple.
This is a master album, and to think they were kids here, when they recorded this album they ranged in age from 17-19 yet they sounded like seasoned vets of rock n roll!! Funny you mention AC/DC, they had the same record producer, Mutt Lange. Def Leppard also opened for AC/DC, circa 1980
Rick secretly worked on his drum kit after the accident and the other guys pretty much had a new drummer hired. When Rick played his new kit the guys were blown away. The "new" drummer said "I thought I was the new guy", the rest of the band said only if you can out drum a one armed drummer. RESPECT!!!
Agree with Troy Miller, react to some Journey. Even Stephen Tyler said that Steve Perry had the best voice ever. "Faithfully" might just bring a tear to Amber's eyes. It's a beautiful song.
In college I dressed up as Joe Elliot and jumped in front of a band missing it's singer, and sang a def leppard set. I wasn't even drunk!🤣🤣🤣. Photograph, Fooling, and Animal are some other great ones from them, among many more.
My absolute favorite Def Leppard song!! I’m with Jay this is a head banger and I love it!!! They do a great live version too where they start off with acoustic guitars then rock out 🎸
It's actually their old sound. This was before the tragic accident that that caused Rick Allen, the drummer to lose his arm. After that their sound became more electronic. However they ALWAYS sounded great. and I have VERY much admiration and respect for the rest of the band, in that they stuck by Rick as he recovered, and learned to play drums with one arm and changed his entire approach to playing. They could have very well taken a different approach and got a replacement drummer. Instead they supported Rick and stood by and behind him every step of the way. For that they will always have my respect. And to Rick, who could have just give up, but no, he was determined to continue, and grow both as a person, and as a musician.
Notice the similar speed (or lack-there-of), the pace, rhythm, the lyric's metre.....of DL's early albums/songs like this one from "High n Dry" and their first album, "On thru the Night" and compare it to their subsequent hits/success and you'll hear why it was relatively easy to transition Rick to an electronic assist device. No doubt it more than made up for the loss of his arm. Their musical, "signature style and sound" changed a little but to most diehards, it was in a very good way. God rewarded this band with riches and fans beyond their dreams. That's what happens when you don't leave your friends behind in the midst of a tragedy. God listens!...and God rewards!
I give Rick all the respect in the world for figuring out a way to keep playing after a tragic accident which almost killed him. I've tried tying one hand behind my back and getting to his level, I can't play with out my left hand.....ohhhh yurrrr!
I agree. It took YEARS before they could find a singer to replace Steve and make it in any way. Sadly, they still cannot make it like they did when they had Steve. People/Fans have told them, it was Steve's voice and the way he connected with the audience that made Journey so popular. Don't get me wrong, everyone in the band was awesome. I am just repeating what Rolling Stone said, what....over ten years ago (?)
I'm new to your page and I'm loving all your reactions. Def Leppard is one of my top 5 favorite groups of all time. Don't know if you'll ever see this comment or if anyone has commented this fact, but there are 2 versions of this song. One released in 1981 and the other in 1984. This was the 1981 version. They were both great in their own way.
Saw them yrs. ago in concert. I saw the 1st concert after the drummer came back from losing his arm. How he played the drums minus an arm, was so inspiring & amazing to watch, knowing what he just went through. It was unbelievable.
This song immediately went into an awesome instrumental called "Switch 625" on the album. The two songs really belong together.

Yes they did, couldn't believe their age when I first heard them
Pete Willis was 16 when they recorded their first album.

Pete was born in 1960 I just read, so a bit older than 16, Rick Allen was 16 when he first joined however
Def Leppard are icons of 80's Arena Rock. They have so many catchy hits
Rick secretly worked on his drum kit after the accident and the other guys pretty much had a new drummer hired. When Rick played his new kit the guys were blown away. The "new" drummer said "I thought I was the new guy", the rest of the band said only if you can out drum a one armed drummer. RESPECT!!!
The highnotes does it for me, they killed this song
Agree with Troy Miller, react to some Journey. Even Stephen Tyler said that Steve Perry had the best voice ever. "Faithfully" might just bring a tear to Amber's eyes. It's a beautiful song.
Steve I erry wasn’t even the best singer in the band when Greg Rolie was still in the band.
I've seen them 4 times in concert. Three times in the late 80's and once a few years ago. Still rock to this day.
They do a great live version too where they start off with acoustic guitars then rock out 🎸
This is one of my favourite Def Leppard songs. Saw them in Toronto in 2007. Awesome show.
Def Leppard has a great library of music, fantastic professional Rock stars.
On Through the Night
CLASSIC Def Leppard! One of their best!
You guys need to react to some Journey!!!!!
So many hits and Steve Perry has one of the greatest voices EVER!!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!
Omgosh I think Amber Would Totally Vibe On Steve
Absolutely! You need to react to some Journey!
Steve Perry has the best voice out there.
@@mspfinney You Are 100,000% right!!
This song always got me. Opening line, Gypsy, sitting looking pretty. Gah! Joe's vocals.
Saw them yrs. ago in concert.
I saw the 1st concert after the drummer came back from losing his arm.
How he played the drums minus an arm, was so inspiring & amazing to watch, knowing what he just went through. It was unbelievable.
