    Everyone is justifiably impressed by Rick's ability to come back like he did. And so am I. But you gotta respect the other band members for stopping work and waiting for him to recover and learn to play again. I'm not sure many bands would have done that.

    • @moehio
      @moehio 2 роки тому +26

      That's mainly because the band DIDN'T stop working. They continued working on their studio album right after the accident as they figured that's what Rick would have wanted them to do. To Rick's amazing credit, he was hitting the drums again 8 weeks after they removed his arm. Amazing.

    I live in Kansas. We have the State Fair here every year. One year Def Leopard came to entertain us at the Grandstand in the Fairgrounds .
    Def Leopard put on a terrific show. No doubt about it. What I enjoyed almost as much as the show was - how annoyed, irritated and shocked the non rock fans were about how loudly the band played . They played like they were at the Forum East in 1970! They were all a little heavier and some sightings of gray hair were rumored to have been seen. But they played and sang the same as if it were still the 80’s. It was a fun night that was had by all rock fans that night.😎💋

    This song is from the album "Pyromania" (1983)... The whole album is Great! Not a bad song on it... They had 5 radio hits off this album... "Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)", "Photograph", "Too Late for Love", Foolin'", and "Rock of Ages". The album after this was "Hysteria" (1987) Rick had his accident in 1984... the long pause was due to him recovering and learning to play again. Hysteria is another album that is great front to back. They had SEVEN radio hits off this album... "Women", "Rocket", "Animal", "Love Bites", "Pour Some Sugar on Me", "Armageddon It", and "Hysteria".

      Clarke was Def Leppard's principal song writer (shared fairly equally with Pete Willis until his firing, and after that (really from "Pyromania" until his death), he easily did the lion's share of songwriting). When someone asks me who was my #1 favorite band in the 80's ... I say Def Leppard. And that says A LOT, considering I could identify about 2,000 bands from that decade (my teenage years). All of Def Leppard's hits were jams, and they had the most hits on any one album, and several hit albums (or tapes, that you would play in your car, driving around jamming to tunes). They're not my "all time" favorite band these days, in fact I've come to not have an all-out favorite, but for that time, absolutely they were. I've seen them twice on tour in the early 2000's. and they still put on a great show.

    I think this is the first song I ever heard from them and it is still my favorite. The five of them are firing on all cylinders. "Foolin" is another great song, as is "Hysteria" the title track from their subsequent album. Two great early Leppard songs are "High and Dry" and "Me & My Wine."
    As for their penchant for wearing the Union Jack, Joe Elliot says they picked up a bunch of those shirts and shorts when they were leaving the UK for their first tour of America, and it became their trademark.

    IMHO, this is the GOAT of Def Leppard catalog. This album and this song in particular are hard to beat. That said, Hysteria surpassed it in many ways. Still, this will probably always be my favorite album and song by them. Brilliant from start to finish.

    I am a lifelong Leppard fan since the age of 8 in 1983. They have always been a source of inspiration. I love your comments about the British flag as I remember everyone wearing British flag clothes at this time. I still have my British flag painter's hat from then. Many people have mentioned some of their best hits below from back in the day but as a fan, there is not a bad song in their collection. Check out songs like Rock Brigade, Gods of War, Demolition Man, Ride Into The Sun and the album Yeah! where they cover songs of bands they idolized as kids. They are touring this summer with Joan Jett, Poison and Motley Crue, all bands that you need to check out.

    About damn time! There are two kinds of Def Leppard fans: those who believe Pyromania is the beginning of “hair band” Def Leppard, and those who understand CORRECTLY that Pyromania is the pinnacle of “old school” Def Leppard. The entire Pyromania album rocks, and this track is the best. BRILLIANT!

    I still have a hard time watching any music video where the Def Leppard drummer still has both arms. It must have been amazing to not only continue being a drummer, but also inventing a drum kit specifically made for only one arm, the rest of the drums were done with foot pedals. Truly a masterpiece of engineering. I don't know if he still uses the original version of that set or if he has more.

    I'm so glad to see 2 young people understand and love them as much as I do.. this reaction is older, so idk if you will see this....80s was the best and their music and a whole lot of the music of that time, has stood the test of time..DL just wrapped up a stadium tour at the end of 2022.. Hopefully they will tour soon in your city or close by and you can go see them...even though they're in their 60s, except for Rick, he's 59, their shows are phenomenal. I decided several years ago to pick band and thoroughly study, read watch interviews, and study each member also individually.. Def Leppard was first on the list.. I went all the way back to the very beginning when Joe had brown curly hair LOL... You probably already have but if you go back and read and study every single thing about every single one of them each one individually has an amazing story in our phenomenal.. the one guitarist in the older videos that I don't mention is Steve Clark he died in January of 1991 and they replaced him with a guy named Vivian Campbell.. so he's in the newer stuff well from 91 on....they have been friends and bandmates for so many decades, that says a lot about a group of people, even married people most time don't stay together as long as they have.. I'm so glad that I found your videos I don't even care to watch anybody else's reviews anymore, I've become a huge fan of you 2

    Back in 1983 I was bought my first drum set a 5 piece set called Royce $500 and I was 11 years old and that summer I used my boom box and a cassette of pyromania and everyday I would turn up the volume to its max so I could hear while I played my drums and I did that 2 times a day everyday playing to that entire album until I learned how to play the drums and a GIANT thanks to Rick Allen and Def Leppard I learned how to play the drums that summer and when hysteria album came out I did the same thing I learned every song and their next album adrenalized I learned that one too ever song. Thank you Rick Allen and Def Leppard I taught myself to play the drums by playing along with Rick Allen and the rest is history. I was in 3 garage bands and on my 3rd band we made 4 original songs and they were video taped and we sent them to phonograms in New York and they replied saying keep practicing and send us more videos of your originals we sent them 2 more and they wrote back saying sorry you are not what we are looking for and that hurt cause many people from the gigs we did said that they liked our own songs but I guess we weren’t good enough and we sent the videos to 3 other record companies and we never heard back from them and years later after we called it quits Ron our singer heard a song from ac/dc and the song was called thunder struck and it sounded a lot like 1 of our songs but not exactly the same but close and we always wondered if our song was used like a template for that song and our own song was not called thunder struck and the words in that song were not all the same words but I’ll never know if a record company used 1 of our songs as a template for ac/dc and it didn’t sound the same we could hear the changes but it wasn’t enough for us to prove anything. Such is life.

    You should do a video on Tesla "Song And Emotion". It was written for Def Leppard's former guitarist Steve Clark. He was known to not handle the stardom that came with being in the band and dealt with it by becoming an alcoholic. He eventually drank himself to death in 1991. Tesla's song and emotion is an awesome tribute to him.

    I discovered Def Leppard when I was 12 and sneaked into my uncle's room and started going thru his album collection. He came home and caught me but instead of getting mad he sat down on the floor w/ me and introduced me to more of his collection and that was when I also discovered Styx, ACDC and so much more. In the late 1980's early 1990's, Def Leppard's concerts were by far the best. Seeing videos like this and hearing it in person is totally different. I would LOVE to go back to those days......
