This was truly a balm to my soul today...listened with tears as I am grieving the loss of a baby in miscarriage. God used your beautiful music to soothe and comfort. Thank you.
When one knows the sad story behind the writing of this hymn, the words mean even more. When we are in God's loving embrace He will never let us go! I encourage you to Google it and learn the story! Its very moving!
I have watched this about 100 times over the last year. To me, this moment in singing is a classic representation of what happens when preparation, acoustics, a good arrangement, and spiritual truth come together. The singers and the conductor are on a wild ride of the moment that they did not see coming, and it is absolutely thrilling.
I've been singing for the better part of the last 30 years. This performance, even through this venue... a posting on youtube with only a meager pair of earphones, has absolutely enriched me beyond words. The artistry, beauty, and conviction put into the music here transcends emotion. It is simply life-altering. God bless you all and thank you for the gift.
(Lyrics) Oh Love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee; I give Thee back the life I owe, That in Thine ocean depths its flow May richer, fuller be. Oh Light that foll’west all my way, I yield my flick’ring torch to Thee; My heart restores its borrowed ray, That in Thy sunshine’s blaze its day May brighter, fairer be. Oh Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to Thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, And feel the promise is not vain, That morn shall tearless be. Oh Cross that liftest up my head, I dare not ask to fly from Thee; I lay in dust life’s glory dead, And from the ground there blossoms red Life that shall endless be.
Have you listened to Cynthia Clawson’s version? I prefer her beautiful arrangement to this because she clearly knows the history of this hymn, as well as what and why she is singing these words.
God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will never die but have life everlasting! (John 3:16) That's the love that will never let you go!
David Phelps wrote this arrangement for GVB, and Westminster is one of the very few I have heard to do it sublime justice. It’s breathtaking. I think it’s easily the best arrangement of this hymn.
Kyle Mahan I just want to know if the guys who think it's a game of pictionary whether they truly think the boy band hand actions and wriggling around is somehow enhancing their singing. I also wonder such things as whether those people would also make a ringing sound if you hit them hard enough in the face with a cricket bat. Things we may never find an answer to.
BaSH PROMPT The movement of the body is part of the emotional expression of the song. It has nothing to do with "boy band". Most people can only hope to ever sing and emote this well.
+BaSH PROMPT (ಠ,ಠ) Criticize what you know something about, as you, obviously know nothing nor care anything about except your own unknowledgeable opinion.
The sound that fills and swirls around the cathedral when they let go of the word “endless” is pure musical magic. I’ve had the privilege to sing this in an acapella group too, but cannot approach the breathtaking beauty of the sound they make here.
Keep coming back to this posting time and again. A sleepless night tonight and what a comfort to hear of the love of God that will not let me go. And the added blessing of hearing the hymn sung so beautifully and with such passion and devotion. Thank you Westminster Chorus and God bless you all
"🌠CELESTIALI!🌠 "Music to soothe the savage breast, soften rocks, and bend the knotted oak." William Congreve I'm here because I was writing a comment after the conclusion of a video of a Slim Whitman recording of "Blueberry Hill", first performed in 1940 by Gene Autry in a film titled THE SINGING HILL, and most iconically recorded by Antoine "Fats" Domino, and this song randomly popped up. After viewing this, watching, as they are constrained to do, stiff standing, prim and proper choir members performing shall never be the same! (God works in mysterious ways.) Milton Moore Las Vegas. Seeing the glowing faces of these men is one of the most satisfying things to not only see, but hear in the music they're putting out for us all to hear. What an incredible arrangement and performance. Performances and pieces like this remind me why I sing.
I’ve listened to this many times over the years and came back to it this morning. As tears filled my eyes, this music communicates God’s great love like I never experience in any other way and brings a yearning to be with Him and reminds me that this world is not my home. Thanks for this slice of heaven.
Same here... tears of great joy, love and adoration for the Almighty the giver and lover of my soul. And in particular: this piece, done in that building at that time through those voices. A spiritual experience.
He needs to get out of the way - the words of the song speak for themselves - he's rehearsed the song we do not need to see but only hear his interpretation - which is to his taste. For my taste I would prefer a less complicated interpretation that sincerely expresses the words; I'm delighted though that so many have found it a blessing.
Thanks again to my wonderful brothers in harmony, The Westminster Chorus, for their matchless rendition of this David Phelps arrangement of one of my favorite hymns of all. I cannot visit UA-cam without bathing in this glorious gift. And yes, I "tear up" every time...THIS is why we do what we do ! Don (Vocal Majority)
Amazing beauty. Amazing Love. Amazing Savior that will not let me go; for we like sheep have all gone astray I am so thankful. The only way this piece could be better is when we all sing it with the angels in heaven. I’ve saved this & listen to it regularly. It centers me on the most important Person of all time, the Savior of the world, King Jesus. Thank you.
The absolute best barbershop singing I've ever had the privilege of listening to. I'm almost surprised to learn that I do NOT have to pay to listen to this.
I still listen to this. It comforts me. It inspires me. It fills me with a peace and a love so amazing. It is truly one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.
This trip was the best. Singing in places like this is one of the best experiences anyone could ever have. Doing it with Westminster is just an honor in itself!
Jesus' love. Powerful and sweet. Jesus you are my sweet love; my dove and my tender lover. Your love embraces me and puts me in such ecstasy...I am in awe and tears and my soul is comforted.
Come back to this posting many times to listen to this beautiful hymn. Amazing presentation of this song. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13. Thank you gentlemen for your talented singing
Justin can sing, he just focuses on the music while directing so we can make the best music possible. He's quite a talented vocalist in his own right as well.
As a member of the Westminster Choir, I am convinced that the name "Westminster" always has to do with passionate, great singing together. What a blessing. :)
Absolutely stunning.. Breath taking..! Oh Love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee; I give Thee back the life I owe, That in Thine ocean depths its flow May richer, fuller be. I am a HUGE fan of David Phelps and I think these guys did justice to his arrangement..My heart was beating so fast listening to this. It was BEAUTIFUL! The acoustics are AMAZING in there! You could here it in the pause..W0W! Thanks for sharing!
Wow!!! The majestic sounds emanating from this choral group l did not expect. I would have expected these men to be dressed in choir robes and not street clothes; which makes it all the more fascinating.
Chills, goosebumps, almost to the point of shedding a tears... I first heard of this hymn when I heard a simple upbeat guitar arrangement of the hymn from Chris Rice on my Spotify and I was just coming across some other arrangements here on UA-cam. I came upon this one and something just told me to stop scrolling and listen to it. Sure enough, it was worth me to stop scrolling! God's Presence is surely felt through the Westminster Chorus's powerful singing!! God is good, all the time! May we forever praise and worship Him and His amazing glory!! Hallelujah!!
Absolutely wonderful! It always make me cry when I listen to this song so beautifully sung. What a great Heavenly Father we have. Thank you...thank you...for blessing me through your amazing music like this.
I was delightfully surprised when I found out this arrangement was done my very favorite tenor, the incredible David Phelps. If you don't know his music, you NEED TO! He is an unbelievably-God-gifted singer/composer/arranger/producer ❤️
After listening to this performance at least two dozen times, I keep replaying it. It's the most gorgeous performance of this powerful hymn ever! Supernal! Thank you for bringing the listener into the presence of God.
I don't know exactly why, but once every 6-8 months I remember that this exists and I come back to it. I marvel at the artistry, I wonder if the men singing this song knew exactly what they were going to produce, and I wonder if being part of that has stuck with them these many years. It is truly something to create and be part of a moment as special as this. Thank you for sharing it with us.
The free movements so much commented on come from what must by now be a century or more of tradition. And not a little of the strength and freshness of the sound arises from precisely that freedom.
STUNNING...just stunningly beautiful guys. David Phelps is an amazingly brilliant musical genius. This was breathtaking to me and it is my utmost FAVORITE hymn.
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (August 3), I filled in at a local Presbyterian Church. I played this as the Hymn of Praise.
Words cannot express the beauty and joy of that "Love that will not let me go"! Blessed Saviour, for my salvation, I give thee thanks and praise, for your mighty gift of love and mercy, I give you glory! Glory to the Name above all other names! Glory to Christ Jesus, our Lord! Amen and again I say, Amen!
These videos are great. The music is astounding. But who ever is moving the camera needs to just need it alone. There is so much noise from moving it that it distracts from just how awesome these are.

My wife believes our precious Queen Elizabeth would have loved to be sitting there listening to this. We all miss her so much.😢

Where are more hymns by this group? I can’t find anything from them as beautiful as this.
this is as close to heaven as most music gets.

That very last note is worth living an entire lifetime just to hear it.
+Ed D. The bass? Yes.
Just lost a dear friend. A wonderful Christadelphian woman who was laid to rest today. This superb rendition just sings of her thank you.
The story behind the writing of this hymn makes it's lyrics even more profound.
Comparto lo que usted dice. Hermosa historia detrás de tan sublime himno.
What story?
How many backed this up to 3:24 to listen to it again and again and again?????
The human voice!! Arguable, the most perfect instrument ever made!!!!!!!!!!!
Fabulous to see a group of men enjoying singing like that.... WOW!
Especially that young to apply their talent on an ancient hymn of the Church.
This rendition of "O Love..." is the very best you will ever hear and find, no matter where you look.
The Gather Vocal Band is best.

What an awesome tribute to the theme "Love" in the real sense, now largely removed from American culture and values!
