Westminster, singing "Lux Aurumque", (composed by
Eric Whitacre). Performed in the "Petrikirche", a Protestant church (start of construction 1322) in Dortmund, Germany. The church is famous for the huge carved altar (known as "Golden Miracle of Dortmund"), from 1521. It consists of 633 gilt carved oak figures depicting 30 scenes about Easter.
The translation of Lux Aurumque is:
Light, warm and heavy as pure gold, and the angels sing softly to the newborn babe.

cant believe this is written in this century
They PERFECTLY nailed that chord at 0:56; the tonality, the crescendo... Good lord. You can see it on their faces too. Would kill to hear this piece performed live in this cathedral.
This is by far my favorite performance of this piece. I sit, close my eyes, and just listen. The warmth from all male voices is just stunning. Nothing else to say but pure perfection and beauty.
The resonance of the tone in the male range of this piece is just fantastic! Nice treatment of the dissonance!!! They know how to exploit it and make it "shimmer"!!
I also like how the camera is CONSTANTLY FOCUSING...
The acoustics in this church are amazing! The sound of male voices bouncing off marble walls has no equal...beautiful! Thanks for posting this video...much appreciated!
how are these people sitting in here not absolutely freaking out.....this is gorgeous
The beauty of this piece is too much to comprehend. They don't know what they're supposed to do with themselves 😆
Absolutely beautiful.
this is the tightest, most balanced and blended ensemble i have EVER heard. holy shit.
La plus émouvante interprétation que je connaisse.
A friend just played this for me tonight. THIS IS TRULY THE MUSIC OF HEAVEN! The music of the spheres! Of the angels! Of God's gift of music to man. Stunning! Sublime! Exalted! Magnificient! Exquisite and shimmering perfection! Unearthly...otherworldly...soaked in God. This music IS the condition of being in a state of grace.
This is THE most perfect version of this piece. The depth of inspiration under the performance is awe-inspiring.
Eric Whitacre shared this on his facebook page!!!! Amazing job, guys!
This, is the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard in my lifetime. Instantly moved to tears by this, every single time I hear it. Unbelievable.
I am literally moved to tears by this. The mastery of this choir and Eric Whitacre is just unreal.
brought me to tears....wow. best version of this piece ive ever heard
I just ADORE from 3:04 and expecially from 03:16 till the end. Moved to tears. Great 1st tenors. Big compliment.
that suspension to a resolve at the end is pristine. brings a smile to my face everytime
This is a special group singing in an incredible environment - the echos enhance the music and singing! We're so lucky! Thank you, Westminster Choir.......!
This is absolutely sublime. It brings tears to my eyes to hear this.
This is devastatingly beautiful to the ears.
I have this tattooed on my arm!! I’ve been in love with this piece for years and years. I want this played at my funeral. Ahh!! The beautifulness of this!
My god, the end! Whoever was holding that last note is a beast! I had to do that with my choir and it was like death! But it's just so seamless here! Very good.
They usally switch people holding the note, but it all sounds like one note being held. Not that it is impossible to do so but it would extremly challenging

The chord at 3:21 literally makes me tear up it's so beautiful
Omg I got to that part too and I'm crying with chills.
2:18 had me in tears as well
2:30 - The smile on that girl's face is a just reflection on what we all were thinking when they released from that incredible chord, and it was absolved in those beautiful acoustics! A beautiful rendition of this piece! My favourite by far! Better get ordering!!
Their voices are awesome!! Making me cry!!! =')
God, can't believe my ears!!! Brilliant!!!
this is absolutely DIVINE. just heavenly. i adore it. possibly my favorite version of this piece
Idk whether i should be concerned or amazed that I've been listening to this since the summer....Soul Piercing Chords. In love with this version
Don't care about the noise. Still uplifting and reverent. In Vienna during the orchestral heyday symphonies, operas, concertos and theater performances were almost parties in the audience. They drank and played cards, chatted and giggled, gave directions to servants, etc. The upper balconies - you don't want to know what went on up there. Point being that few people sat silent and motionless as in a church service. Like today. Don't be so precious about classical music. It's killing it. A bohemian attitude adopted by more people will bring classical music more into the mainstream. Followed by new brilliant composers making more music for the ages.
Marvellous job! I did that with my former choir, Bravado and we created some magical moments too. Background noise aside, it was fabulous!!
These voices and music are from heaven..... love this. It does a lot of healing for me, thank you for this gift.
Watched this video countless times.. and the sustained high note at the end always gives me chills.
Such a peaceful song sung by an amazing group of people. Thank you so much
Goosebumps, Goosebumps everywhere.
As I have performed this piece with a co-ed chorale, I was interested in hearing this done with an all male group. The sound was wonderful and the venue - perfect for Whitacres' lush and haunting chords. Great job.
Absolutely amazing, gentlemen! That chord on the refrain around 3:15 is such a beautiful one. I love how it's not perfect, yet it's perfect. Thanks for sharing.
Incredible. There is nothing like this kind of music.
Wonderful and hearttouching. THANK YOU!
merci a Eric Whitacre et également a Westminster chorus pour cette interprétation magnifique
Perfect, almost to tears... However, the beginning camera movement/focusing is very mood dampening...
I felt the same thing. I replayed it and closed my eyes...there were tears!
Ok that is simply amazing!!! The sensitivity of these guys is really the real deal; they got it!!
If anyone had any questions what the Angels sound like in the Kingdom of God, this may very well be a sample
Nous avons chanté cette oeuvre magnifique avec le Choeur de l'Armée Française. C'est une piece pour choeur d'homme difficile et vous l'a chantez divinement bien...Merci Thanks
Your are wonderful - all ! minmal maximal harmonic ! Thanks sharing this!
Breathtaking! Absolutely stunning!
I'm generally not a men's choir fan, but this shall be my lovely exception. Overtones are spectacular.... Vowels are impeccable.
WOW!!!! WOW ARE FANTASTIC!!!!
We sang this magnificent work with the Choir of the French Army. This is a piece for man choir and it's a difficult piece and you sing it divinely Thanks ...
Wonderful! Truly and abolutely beautiful!
I've got goosebumps!!! What an incredible version!
I nevered heard anything so amazing from a group of guys...I wonder how long it took them all the get all the voice parts but it's just so amazing plz do more videos like this
First song I ever heard from them. Been hooked since then
Fellas, amazing.
This is MY favorite song to sing in our Choir and you guys have don an OUTSTANDING, AMAZING job!!! I love it, and I hear it almost EVERY day!!!
Perfectly timed 360.
This just heals my soul from any impurities instantly.
Thank you so much. This is as good as the original virtual choir version.
I am a member of the new choral singers in malta eu. We sang this lux and the bogoroditse like you did in a very good way.
Well done
Amazing choir and voices.
This needs to be redone with a quality 360° camera and a Omni cardïode microphone recorded into a h4n or h6 portable recorder, to then be sync toghetter. It would be amazing! You guys deserve your voices to be heard. Thank you again for this amazing performance. I keep coming back to this ones a month.
I love Choir *cries tears of joy*
第一次听全男生的lux,好好听
I would pay lost of money to get them to sing to me as I would stay still in the middle. Thank you for this.
This is truly a beauty
HELP...I can't stop watching this video! Great.. Love the Westminster Chorus.
so. many. goosebumps.
Hi there. I know that you get a lot of comments and praise for your wonderful music. I recently lost my mother to cancer about 6 months ago now and ever since, my love for composing hasn't quite been the same. It was if I had lost all touch with the music that had beat within my heart. Thank you, Westminster Chorus, for being the musical defibrillator that has ignited my passion and humility for harmony and music once more.
Try Westminster group, "O love that will not let me go" it helps comfort me when I miss my mom, too. Condolences to you
Why are you guys so awesome?!?
3:47 that echo is so perfect!!
Glorious!
Beyond the keyboard...exquisite.
Sublime!!!! I worship you
So much warmth in it... it is like lullaby
+Herbsareflying It is a lullaby to the new born King of Kings - Jesus!
wow you guys are amazing , the choral control and blend was a total joy to listen to !!
It's funny so see some of these guys again, I've met a few at a barbershop festival in Reno feels like ages ago. Good job on this piece brothers
Stunning!
Absolutely amazing!
Always magnificent.
just great go check them out on spotify that's where I first saw them
bose noise cancelling headphones...it feels like I am in neverland. AMAZING JOB!!!!
Wow!
It's amazing what your training has done for you in promoting Barbershop and Acapella singing. As an older singer in another chorus, I would hope that you would eventually diffuse your amazing talents among the rest of us and make the entire Barbershop world better. Keeping all that talent in one place is a bit selfish. We need your voices to make us all better.
So beautiful!
I've found it really cool, including the way you presented yourself in a casual way. People in general certainly won't expect it.
in a church, I think it adds great effect. Think of it as spirits moving and listenin to the music.
So beautiful! Thanks to share!
Oh i regret mostly , you fantastic singers were so near (netherlands and germany) and i didn't know. I love your beautifull performence. Congrats. It's a real confirmation of you Pavarotti price some years ago.
This is so lovely, thanks for sharing such a wonderful song...you all are the best
Wonderful!!
This video has convinced me that this piece was actually written for an all men's chorus
@browncatt1 headphones and 1080p. Get comfy, and watch all 4. It's an amazing difference, the mic really picked up 360 degrees of that incredible room. Comment back after you've heard it that way!!
It is rare that i can hear a over tone in a choir!! omgsh amazing i want to be them!
You guys are incredible, no fancy musical terms needed... every time I hear you, I loose all sense of reality... I wish I could hear you live! Keep posting videos! Really beautiful.
PS I don't care about the clicks from the camera or the people moving in the seats, the cathedral atmosphere is perfect!
beautiful singing guys !!!
Westminster is best viewed with the ears only and eyes closed.
look up voces8 Janet, you'll love them in that case. Still.
Love ! Wonderful voices!
I've been intimately familiar with this piece for almost 15 years and this is by far the best performance of it that I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. God clearly came and sat himself in the room for this to happen so effortlessly 🙏🏾
This is an absolutely beautiful performance of one of my favorite choral pieces, but I still think that Whitacre's pieces lose quite a bit without the true high end achieved by including female voices. It would be fun to hear a performance of this quality from a co-ed choir.
absolutely fantastic!
WOW! KILLER ACOUSTICS! Love this rendition! This song makes great use of environmental echo, however, the camera's autofocus sound in the beginning was a little annoying though...
it would be absolutely incredible to be one of those people sitting in the middle of that circle.
