I really just learned more about drum programming from this video than 99% of the tutorials on here. Love how quickly you move through the ideas and mix. Subscribed! 24:10
What you don’t see in this video is the hours Nick spent setting all this up so that he can freely write and record his ideas super fast, and the practice that goes into being able to do that. It’s so nice when you get to that point, but it takes WERK. Your workflow is on point, had to sub.
Dang, it's thursday already? The week just ran away. Which is great, because I waited for this week's thick riff thursday for what feels like an eternity looking back. 😃
Good Thick Riff Thursday, my dear Niiiiib, i really loved that in this EP of TRT you got more deep into your mixing process, i really would love to see you doing more that! I would love to see you doing mixing lessons for beginners, the concepts and everything, love ya mah booiii!!!
This is so helpful. I'm learning to do essentially exactly what you're doing here, and seeing a pro just whiz through it is so helpful to see what I'm doing right and what I'm missing. Also I wish I could do it as easily as you XD
Loved the Limelight reference 🤣 I’m actually not a metal guy at all, more along the old school stuff plus other genres, but I sometimes dip into the metal style/genre and try and write riffs, I absolutely LOVE these videos!
Great video, you make it all look so easy! It would be great to see a video or series of videos where you go over your writing, recording and editing process in regards to Logic besides what you talk about in this video. More in depth. . Maybe something that goes over how you setup your drum library and what plugins and settings you put on your tracks and master bus. Keep up the great riffs!
You may know this but heads up you can select the input on the kontakt channel to be a different one from the plugin and reorder your tom tracks to be next to each other that way. For different libraries I tend to open up a second instance of kontakt and set the multi out routing first, then copy/drag fader and plugin settings over to the correct channels so you don’t have to totally redo everything ❤
Just getting into programming and recording. Love your channel Bro! Trying to figure out what drum plugin(s) I want to use. Just wanted to say It's cool to see how your riff writing has evolved to get even more brutal. Keep doing the work man, your channel helps me and I'm sure thousands of others immensely.
*These Song Writing Vids are so FUN!!!* Digging The Headless Guitar too! The Colors are Suiting for the PV album... I am guilty of doing the snare and kick at the same time on my recent Periphery style Track😅 Fat Bass Tone BTW!
I already wasn't on the fence on buying this at all, but this made it clear af for me:) Gotta have P5! GREAT riffs too, bro! Fun fact, I had to stop myself from hitting command-S from time to time while you were going through the processing part of the video :) lol. Just being used to seeing the Logic screen and doing that every so often.
I feel like such an idiot for individually clicking out drum parts with my mouse instead of approximating them with keyboard hits. Awesome video, thank you for your great work! You showing the take threads made me miss using Logic so much. I'm stuck with Garageband for the time being since the license on my CD copy of Logic Studio Pro expired. Your lil' studio is set up so nicely!
Love these videos man, I'm gonna keep commenting the same question until I get a response lol - Have you ever showed your Logic templates in depth? I've been working on setting up writing/recording templates in Logic and I'm dying to know how yours are set up. Great stuff as always
I'm using PV in Logic too. Are you setting "PV Drums" track as a bus, summed track stack, or both? Still new to all of this and working through the hiccups. Separately - C0 on my Arturia keyboard does not coincide with kick (or any drum). Any thoughts on mapping? Maybe a future vid on midi mapping and which map you use in GGD that is more comprehensive for us newbies. Thanks man!
Need to dull the edges of the maxed out velocity of your mapping to get some variation so the kit sounds a bit more natural. I would also incorporate a bit more tom work for some added flare. It's nice, though.
Excellent video man. I’m new to this recording stuff so this definitely helps a lot. I just got the same drum kit( this is my first 😅). What’s the name of the riff you played for your sound check ? It sounded dope lol
Not quite the same, as GGD libraries have a distinct raw sound, while I feel like other libraries tend to be more processed. But the ones you mentioned still sound great and can produce high quality results.
Could I use anything other then a keyboard to do the drums like you are doing ? I have an ekit but wouldn’t mind writing drum parts like you are here! Any tutorials how to get setup? So cool!
I like playing them in on the keyboard or a pad but I would love to have an ekit eventually. You could always pencil them in directly in the piano roll but that’s not much fun 🤷♂️
For these videos my mastering preset isn't anything too crazy. Just some slight EQ, compression and limiting, but I'll make a more in-depth video soon.
You gotta high pass the monster. Imo sounds so much better letting the sub of the kick not being compressed. Still sounds dope though. The toms on this kit are my go to. They’re so perfect
“Let’s not do kicks and snares at the same time, we’re adults” quote of the year
😂
Hardcore fellas sweatin rn
😂👌🏼
Um, this genre of music isn’t known for appealing to mature adults 😄
@@fclefjefff4041 😂👌
The amount of effort you put into these videos is absolutely insane. Thicc Thursday is now a weekly holiday for me.
Soundchecking with some Motley Crue and Rush to get the old bearded guys come up front and hit them with a breakdown. 🤣

I was super impressed by you nailing that fill and that low snare with a touch of room sounds insanely good.
Can we get a thick riff monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday? haha Sounds amazing man
Might actually have somethin cookin 👀
This rules - sounds so smooth
2:30 that suspicious dog tho 😄
Dude the P5 library is SO GOOD. It’s my new favorite.

Loved how you went in to detail on your drums mixing! Insane information. Thanks
The extended deep dive into the processing was sick!
Glad you enjoyed it!

thanks man...exactly what i was waiting for ...more mix breakdowns in future videos hopefully
dude you'Re quick af
Thick Riff Thursday is the highlight of my week every week! Thank You!!!! 🙌🏽
Thank YOU!
thank you so much for this drums EQing presentation, that was really helpful. Also I know that "GGD modern and massive" is the best choice for me.
Always excited for coming home from work to watch your videos ❤
Your workflow is so good!
Mans just casually plays Kickstart my heart with no thought LMAO this is why i love your videos.

Sounds good Nick.

So glad to hear 🤘
Thank you for being a source of happiness in my life!
This is so kind of you to say, man! Thanks for watching my content! 🧡
the final track is fire. Nice stuff!
This inspires me, to get my drums out and jam.
Loved the Limelight reference 🤣 I’m actually not a metal guy at all, more along the old school stuff plus other genres, but I sometimes dip into the metal style/genre and try and write riffs, I absolutely LOVE these videos!
Awesome trick with the saturn on the kick! Literally made all the difference! 🤌🤌🤌

We need this writing Template!!!! 😍😍😍
I liked the video before it started. haha love it
Watching Thick Riff Thursday on a consistent basis has been proven to increase the use of the word "nice" by up to 76% in males 16-38 years old.
Lmaoooooooo
Nice

Great video. I use Perfect Drums all the time and need more mixing autonomy, could you do a Kontakt Multi-Out tutorial??

little bit of buster action lmao i love it

Fat Bass Tone BTW!
Ooh new microphone!
It's an old mic I had, just thought it was time for a switch!
This was thiccness missing from my life.
That was a great riff. Sounds brutal. Love the drums too. I have been debating getting GGD. I use SSD 5 right now.
i use the free SSD 5 :p
I wish you had that writing templates for studio one too man!
Working on it! 👀
Dude, when you'll do a video showing your mix plugins and configs? Sounds so punch and glued.
I'll make a video soon breaking down my writing template!
man new sub now haha such a cool session!
sick riffs too man
Thanks so much!
Keep killing it 🔥
Excellent work dude, instant fan of TRT over here.

Drum mixing was interesting to see
Shit, I want to learn how to use the midi controller to record multiple passes of midi drums. Kick+snare, then cymbals after. Great stuff here man.
ASCEND TO MORE OF THIS!!!!!!!!!
It's Friday!
Love these videos man, I'm gonna keep commenting the same question until I get a response lol - Have you ever showed your Logic templates in depth? I've been working on setting up writing/recording templates in Logic and I'm dying to know how yours are set up. Great stuff as always
I plan to make my writing template available to download soon and I’ll also have a video explanation to go along with it!
@@nickbroomhallmusic That's awesome! I look forward to it
Nick: I am going to ABUSE that
Cymbal: 😳
Mix is huge
🙏
i need to get that drum program asap!!
23:15 for full demo
“The perfect balance of loose and tight”…. Ah yes, music….
Any chance you could do a tutorial on how you actually create these drum beats?
I love your palm mutes
Thank you! That's a bigger compliment to me than you think 😂
I always like educational content
Can we get a tutorial on how to "properly" map you midi keyboard to control GGD?
Bro please can you explain how you got the articulations in the midi role for the bass plugin???? That will change my entire life
I was wondering the same damn thing 😂
What’s the tuning for your 8 string for this song and the one you usually prefer to play in?
I'm using PV in Logic too. Are you setting "PV Drums" track as a bus, summed track stack, or both? Still new to all of this and working through the hiccups. What ever happened to your Lost Woods metal version?
It's in my Ocarina of Time medley!
2:10 me personally I don't like riffs with pauses in betweens cause then I feel like my audio is laggin
Need to dull the edges of the maxed out velocity of your mapping to get some variation so the kit sounds a bit more natural. I would also incorporate a bit more tom work for some added flare. It's nice, though.
dude HOW do you pan left and right crash? same with china? I only see hats, splash, ride, crash ride, and stacks
1:30 just like my ex
💀
Sick Riff Sunday?
i just bought this but i swear your kick sounds like hit has more punch to it. Im new to a lot of this any tips???
Excellent video man. I’m new to this recording stuff so this definitely helps a lot. I just got the same drum kit( this is my first 😅). What’s the name of the riff you played for your sound check ? It sounded dope lol
I love the sound of the drums. I have SSD5, perfect drums, EZ drums 2 plugins. Can i get the same sound as this?
Not quite the same, as GGD libraries have a distinct raw sound, while I feel like other libraries tend to be more processed. But the ones you mentioned still sound great and can produce high quality results.

I sorta wanna make pop music with this just to see what it would be like
7:26 lmao
do you prefer this over easy drummer?
that guitar is a beaut
Thanks!
NICE
Nice 🤝
hey nick can you show us how you set up your midi keyboard for the drums?
Sure! I can put this in my Q&A
Are you gonna finish Headwigs theme?
This is so freaking awesome. You don't happen to know if GGD is compatible with electronic drumkits do you?
They absolutely are 😊
Awesome!! Thanks!@@ConexusPK
This sounds thicc!
Only 3 Toms again though. Not enough for people who are addicted to TOMS GO BRRRRRRR xD. Which is an addiction I am proudly "suffering" from
What tuning was this in?
It's Drop Ab with a low Eb👌
edit: full tuning low to high is Eb Ab Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb or D# G# D# G# C# F# A# D#
Nice! What kind of studio monitors are you using? And whats the signal chain?
I'm using Yamaha HS7s
Sounds great, what are your thoughts on the p5 compared to the p4?
Hey, I was just wondering what you use for mastering?
For these videos my mastering preset isn't anything too crazy. Just some slight EQ, compression and limiting, but I'll make a more in-depth video soon.
What studio monitor do you use for this kind of mix? I don't know what to choose between Adam t7v and Yamaha HS7 pls help
I'm using the HS7s but I hear great things about Adam monitors. Let me know which ones you end up going with!
do you group all the crashes together into your crash input?
what kind of audio interface do you have that you don't get latency when playing midi?
Those guitar tones tho 😮 may I ask what plugin you are using for rhythm? Is it Nolly or Gojira?
i wanna see ur guitar processing
You gotta high pass the monster. Imo sounds so much better letting the sub of the kick not being compressed. Still sounds dope though. The toms on this kit are my go to. They’re so perfect
I'll try that out, thanks! Yeah I haven't heard the shells on a kit sound this good since Modern & Massive
what are you using for guitar tone?
Neural DSP Archetype Nolly!
Do you use a preset in GGD before you mix them in your DAW, or are they all the raw, unedited sounds?
I use some of GGD's internal mixing tools like the turbo knob and a little reverb, but I do the rest of the processing in Logic.
Bro. Whyyyyyyy did you make the screen so damn small? You’re handsome and all but I’m here to see wtf you’re doing in the box! 😂
I have the screen much bigger in my newer videos 😂
