Epiphone Les Paul Custom! An Epiphone Like No Other

- Today we are taking a look at my Epiphone Les Paul Custom. This guitar is truly under valued in my opinion. This Epiphone feels like a Gibson to me. The ProBucker pickups, ebony fretboard, and fantastic fit and finish make this, hands down my favorite guitar of the inspired by Gibson line.

I started playing guitar 6 months ago, I have, what I think is a decent acoustic, fender dreadnought, but my electric is a cheap $60 guitar from a large electrical outlet. I’ve just ordered the Epiphone Les Paul custom ebony, and I can’t wait to pick it up tomorrow. Im preparing for a shock in playability and tone!
Congratulations! I hope you enjoy your new guitar and you continue to play for a long time!
How do you like it after 10 months?
I just got one last week. I love it!
Nice review. I just bought a silver and black one. Love it so far!
Awesome video, super informative and I hope you keep going!
Thank you!
I bought a 2020 Epi Silverburst Custom, after some adjustments it plays and sounds great through my Marshall Silver Jubilee and Origin 50 combo...Epiphone has truly stepped up their quality control!
I picked one up recently, I am really enjoying it. Its a great guitar.
Yeah now i can finally own a Les paul Custom without the 5K price tag!
When i heard Epi was using ebony on the FB of thee and changed their headstock
i was in heaven!
I bought a 1986 gibson les paul custom black beauty. In 1986, I got married in 1991. Had kids, and was broke. I sold it, still kills me. I just bought one of these. It plays and feels just like my 86. I love it so much. In 1986 the black beauty coust me 1,000 dollars. This guitar cost me 726 dollars in 2022. And I couldn't be happier.
I recently picked up the Epiphone SG standard from the "inspired by Gibson" range and it blew me away how good it was when compared to my Gibson SG. I might have to get myself one of these Les Paul customs it looks amazing and sounds great.
I got the Koa topped version about a month ago, I love it. The neck shape threw me off a bit at first, but I find it to be extremely comfortable, and I am impressed as heck with those pickups. I see no need to change them whatsoever.
Why did you buy the koa? Is it any different to the custom ?
@@ordjk4797 It is a solid Koa top instead of maple or mahogany, and of course the finish is clear istead of a solid color. That's the only difference I'm aware of. It was purely an aesthetic choice for me. I like koa
@@corneliuscrewe677 I see , okay thanks for the reply
Your right about that phrase,@For the money.” These guitars are not cheap by any means. If your paying over $500 for any guitar you expect a quality built instrument. Epiphone has definitely step up their game, and I believe Gibson knows they can make a lot more money with these types of offerings under $1000.
Great review. I bought the Koa model and it's awesome 👍
Enjoy that Koa! Thank you for watching the video
Thank you I’m sold !!
Beauty of a Axe... great playing as well... keep on rocking 🤘🇺🇸
Thank You
@@alansamsmusic your welcome... I play the same guitar as well... rock ON DUDES 🍻❤️
yup my Koa vaniered is awsome....my black standard from 20 yrs ago is my 'ill run into my burning house to get it' guitar
Thanks for posting. The ebony neck is part of the true Les Paul Custom feel. Strange that you can get this on an Epiphone but not newer Gibsons. Everything is improving in this price range and the Epiphone's are a great value. Careful with the neck if you ship it!
Sounds good. This man had his neighbors shook when he hit the distortion. 😂 Good stuff sir. Keep on keeping on. 🤘🏼
Thank you 😂
Iv got the same epi and i try a gibson twice the cost of this epi. And i ended up with this epiphone a true gem
I have the white version of this guitar. Like he said, it is a FANTASTIC guitar. I dare say it plays better than my Gibson Les Paul Studio.
get off drugs. i own 15 epi custom pro and 16 faded studio. And epi is a complete piece of trash and waste of wood compared to gibson
Get off drugs owning 15+ of the same guitar lol
@@rovenordiales 2015, go to school and get your iQ in positive
@@dkrawk8309 ha lol nice try. Still doesn't make you a genius for bragging about having 15+ of the same guitar. I earn 6 digits working for microsoft and I still wouldn't be as 'genius' like you. 🙊😂
@@dkrawk8309 Umm, why do you own 15 guitars you think are trash? That doesn’t sound like a positive IQ decision...
I have a wine red Classic that I got back in '05 and it's been great, so I would certainly be down to consider one of these beauties as well. Solid colors don't need flamed maple caps, so the money can go into the other appointments on the guitar.
I love the look of these when they are new. Good played hardware doesn't wear well though.
I purchased one of these in 2019. The headstock is slightly different as the corners are indented which I actually prefer. The overall playability and quality are excellent; probably unbeatable for the price. If you buy one, you should be very happy with it.
Really? Most including myself much prefer the new Headstock look! It is really close to Gibson now.
Got one alpine white custom epiphone and love it to death
I love this guitar. Epiphone just came out with a "burst" in Joe Bonamassa's Lazuras.
I have a black custom like this and a Lazarus. Both are great, but I actually play the custom more. There is just something about the customs.
I have one .. Been really great .. Very heavy ... Recently took it out to paly , and it is pinging all over the fretboard.. I have the pull up pots.. Now I need to take it to my tech to adjust the truss rod .. Not too happy about that ..He does not work for free .. It is a Custom Pro .. good video ..
I bought one in the white color a few weeks ago. Pretty good guitar. The frets were in fact scratchy or gritty like many people have said. After playing it in, the frets are not scratchy anymore. But the frets were disappointing.
I have never had a guitar that didn't need some fret work, or set up.
@@qua7771 That's a shame. I rarely have to spend time on any of my guitars, with the exception of my imports.
@@stratolestele7611 There is a difference in an acceptable set up, and an amazing one. Les Paul's can be a bit difficult, because of the way the truss rod pulls. You get neck relief until around the 15th fret, then level. Also, everyone has a personal preference with regards to string height, gauge etc... Some shops have techs that put in the effort prior to displaying them on the sales floor, but most don't ship that way.
@@qua7771 Actually, 3 of my last Les Pauls arrived perfectly set up. I mean, they're plekked, so they should be. My SG needed some tweaking, by SGs are known for requiring added finess to get perfect.
My tech of 6 years is outstanding (even has a plek machine), so I'm used to perfection. My last two USA Strats were the same way. EBMMs, G&L, PRS, all perfect from day one.
This has never been the case with any import purchase. My theory is that they purposely set the action high so they can be made right once they're done traveling over oceans, waterways, trains, trucks, in all manner of weather. It's also much less expensive! 🤠
@@stratolestele7611 It was nice when they were pleking them.
I agree with your theory on shipping.
Thank you for your honest opinion. It’s April 2024 as I write this comment and the internet is buzzing as Epiphone releases a new batch of Inspired by Gibson premium guitars in collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop. For $500 more you get the proper Gibson open book headstock along with proper and period correct Gibson specs like pickups, electronics, wiring etc etc. Plus a premium hard shell case with an Epiphone-Gibson Custom commemorative logo, that is also on the guitar. I’m waiting for my Custom in Alpine White to arrive tomorrow. And, I am pre-ordering from Sweetwater the Ebony version in time for Father’s Day. It’s an interesting time but life is good. Cheers.
Epi is finally using EBONY for the FB on these! and i love the new Headstock! Now i definitely want one.
I had been put off because a Custom should have a Ebony board and i did not really like the old headstock epi had.
These look and sound great! heard nothing but great things about the newer Epi les pauls.
Since late 2019 Epiphone have been making high end models again and the high end price tags are and will continue to follow I have the 2021 Epiphone Custom Koa Les Paul it's incredible
Why did you buy that one in particular b
The 2021 Epiphone Les Paul Customs are high end
I swapped out the probuckers for Seymour Duncan alnico 2s. Huge difference, really
Nice guitar!
Thank you
To me the epiphone 59 edition is the best bang for buck, that thing screams. This is however a sexy guitar nevertheless
I just returned mine because it played like it was strung with bailing wire! My Epi 59 and LP Special TV Yellow play like butter. Some people and dealers have commented that it sounds like a problem with that particular guitar. I'm thinking of possibly giving it another chance. Because I REALLY wanted one of these! I wished it would have played like the other two.
Restring it?
@@duderdude4831 Too late now. I bought a Firebird instead. But I have the Harley Benton version of it and it's pretty nice. I'm just waiting on a proper 5 ply pickguard to arrive.
How are your impressions of this guitar a year later? Any negatives you notice now that you didn’t before? I have a Gibson LP Standard, but thinking of getting this guitar. Just don’t want to feel like it’s a step down.
👍🏻👍🏻
Ping - lot of sustain LOL. Nicely played.
How do you like your Blackstar HT5? Do you gig with it....is it loud enough? Thanks
Hi Jeff thanks for watching the video. The Blackstar is a great tube amp for a smaller room. It would probably do well in a band practice environment, but I think it would lack the headroom to gig with especially if other people in your band are using louder amps.
@@alansamsmusic Thanks Alan. So maybe the 20 watt version would be better? Have you ever run your amp with 2 different cabs...and pedals to get a wide spread stereo sound? How did your Sire L7 sound with it? Thinking of getting 2 Sires.
Hi Alan, which do you prefer, the Epi or Sire L7?
The Sire guitars are very good they offer a lot of nice features at a good price, but my personal preference is the Epiphone.
@@alansamsmusic thanks for the advice
Alan, I have a white one I payed 749.00. I just received my Chibson 259.00. All I had to do was change the strings. It sounds much better. Salvatore Daniele Chinese Gibson.
Ronson used a Gibson custom on Ziggy!
Yes he did! He was such a great musician.
Holy moly..never knew...and such an awesome sound! R.I.P. David..
It's a good guitar until you change the stock pickups to genuine Gibson Burstbucker pickups then it becomes a great guitar!..trust me I know!
I wish I never pawned it. Better tone than the Gibson studio I have
CTS pots are ok, but are the other electronics (wires, capacitors etc.) good quality? Nobody talks about this.
The capacitor is a generic one, but the wires are surprisingly thick and look pretty high quality. Thanks for watching the review.
Do you think you ought to upgrade the pick ups? They sound good already.
No, these pick ups are really good. As matter of fact this guitar completely stock is perfect just as it is.
@@alansamsmusic Thanks. All I need now is a good distortion pedal - not metal! Any suggestions?
@@mckeich you can always try a Boss DS1... I use a Wampler Mini Plexi and a Friedman Dirty Shirley pedal for overdriven sounds.
I have one, flawless and stays in tune (unlike my Gib Traditional)...pups are very good....a set of JB's might improve the overall tone a bit...but as they like to say, MMV. Still not a Gibson but darn close. Got mine used for $250....came dirty and rusty....but with a little TLC....a joy to play.
@@mckeich Two: Timmy for light OD (pricey, hard to find)....and the ole standard...Ibanez Tube Screamer for starters...the mini is good enough.
Are you from Maryland area?
I'm about 2 and half hours south of Maryland in Virginia.
Just bought a set of Epiphone pro buckers from Epiphone the set cost me $170.00 not cheap
I like those pickups
The only thing i will change is the pu's. The "PROBUCKERS" just dont have the clarity and life i like
in a pickup. While they are miles better than the previous ones Epi used to use in their guitars they
are still not a Seymour Duncan or Gibson pickup.
agreed
You had me at 9.5 lbs....
u rock!!
