Just received the Les Paul Custom black today. been playing it all night. Have three Gibson Les Pauls of differing ages (Standard, Studio-lite and Special). This Custom has the sound nailed. Sustains forever and just gorgeous. Don't know how they can sell these at this price point...they're well crafted and solid. Just cool as all getout!
Boy that SG is off the chain
Love the review, subbed!
Thanks Quentin!
This is the type of guitar review I would do! Because my playing flat out sucks! Lmao.
Thanks for the review, it helps.
In your sound demos, please include sound clips with amps that most people may have like a Boss Katana if you can.
I got the Epiphone SG custom last week and I really like it. That is after I set it up properly. It came way out of tune with high action so it wasn't able to be played right out of the box ( I got it from American Musical supply) They were on back order so I think it was a rush job. The finish is spot on and no over run on the binding of the neck. The neck is the same neck as the Les Paul custom Pro, very comfortable and fast, the only thing is it can be a slight bit sticky on the back of the neck when you first start to play it. The hard ware is a nice gold plate and shines really pretty, the electronic's are decent and no issues so far. These custom's don't have the coil tapping that the Les Paul custom Pro or the G-400's have ( I have a 2016 Epi. Les Paul Custom Pro) other than that the pick up's sound a little better than the pick up's on my G-400 pro, the G-400 pro 4 wire Alnico pup's are not as beefy as the Alnico classic's. The head stock is the new Kalamazoo style and look's nice, it makes the head stock look fatter than the G-400, and it has Keystone tuner's which I like because these stay in tune nice, but I like locking tuner's so I might change them out to gold plated locking Grover's for quick string changes. The guitar came with 10's which are too beefy for me so I switched to Extra slinky's and they feel a lot better and more responsive. Over all it's a great guitar for the price range. Gibson better watch out because Epiphone is hot on their big sister's heel's again.
Thanks for your description. Just a question, Is this Guitar ok to play rock blues? Is It versatile? Thank you man
@@ViglieroG Very much so, I am a blues player in the style of Creem and black Sabbath and it perform's great.
I also have a 2017 Gibson SG standard LE that has 57's on it and the Epi. custom sound's very close and defiantly has that signature SG growl to them. a little more so then the alnico 4 wire's that are on my G-400 pro.
@@randysnewbiebluesrockguita7782 aaaaaah Cream and Black sabbath? ❤️ These are two of my favorite artists :) awesome, sell It. Very kind, cheers from Italy
@@ViglieroG Same to you and PLEASE stay safe .
Please play them. We’ve all been researching these guitars since NAMM. Thanks!
Dawson's music has Tom Quayle doing their demo's, far more informative and he plays them and knows binding from purfling!
You can always replace the pickups to fit to the sound you want. The guy is telling you the specs you cannot replace, which is a good thing. Remember, the sound is subjective depends on type of music you are into.
I like the reviews, I just picked up a new 2020 Les Paul Custom in Silverburst and the Split Diamond on the headstocl is a lot larger than on the black or white models. I'm not complaining, but what's up with that?
Very nice Sg Clay, so is ths LP! Sg has classic pro humbuckers, quite nice! Thanks for posting a "COOL" video, as usual!
Lol thank you as always good sir! I appreciate the “cool” words 😂.
Hi, I own the SG and I think you're correct, it has a Alnico 5 bridge pickup cause it screams like hell, it's very aggressive. I know a lot of people are discussing it on the forums and are confused whether it's 2 or 5 but I definitely think it's 5. BTW this guitar is really worth it for the price, I definitely recommend it :)
Hi Clay, it'd be great to hear the Les Paul Custom. On a related note, any chance of the same for the 1959 Les Paul Standard model? I'd love to hear/see it. The Custom's a beaut, but in my heart o hearts, the '59 is the bomb. Thanks for the videos, either way.
That’s the one I’m stoked for the most. We plan on doing an unboxing/demo/review of the ‘59. I actually plan on trying to get one of those. Using the 50s standard in the meantime (neck is BIG lol).
Does anyone have a comparison to the Epiphone LP Moderns?
Cool video that Les Paul is awesome I own two of them they should do a custom version of these guitars that would be awesome I have a silverburst Les Paul I put custom shop pearly Gates in mine and I put a Tone man custom wiring harness in it and tone pros & Grover keystone locking tuners and I put USA switch and input Jack and I put some over sized chrome pickup rings and custom knobs and a chrome truss rod badge plus I got the frets leveled and polished I got around $1200 bucks in my build and it was worth every penny I bought all the parts on line it has a ebony fretborad on it the only thing that I don't like is the neck I prefer a rounder shape neck but I'm getting used to it I will post a picture of it later on.
I would love to see a silverburst with this new neck profile and headstock!
@@claytonjones705 hey there Claton Jones that would be cool to see a silverburst with that head stock you should see mine it's awesome send me a friend request on face book my name is Pat Romero I'm from Denver I would like to show you my custom build.
Got the custom pro it’s amazing I love it.
He is correct it is a much darker deeper tone btw.
So how do they sound?
If you labeled this “all talk, no playing,” how many hits would you get? Literally everyone watching these videos knows the specs. Plug them into a couple amps and play them. Play through a Katana, one of those new Fender Tonemasters, a Helix...anything that your viewers might have.
He doesn't know binding from purfling, what makes you think he can even play when he thinks a cream tip matches white binding.
Hell, he thinks they glued binding to the pick guard.
Hi, you can always replace the pickups to fit to the sound you want. The guy is telling you the specs that you can't replace, which is a good thing. Remember the sound is subjective depends on what type of music you are into.
Am I going crazy or didn't these used to have like two coil splits and a phase switch? Is that still there?
Which one has wider neck?
I've seen complaints on UA-cam about the fret work, high action, and that they don't all have mahogany necks that they change use that okhume or what ever you call it when ever they want to and don't tell anybody which are which... ps also they use Indian laural on fret boards also..
Hi, is the epiphone custom and epiphone modern has same neck profile?
Hey! The custom felt like a bigger neck to me, even though the specs suggested otherwise. Both have a good feel. Thanks!
Yeah I have to agree with all the other comments. Nice review but no playing samples? Plug that bad boy SG into a cranked Friedman and give it a go!!
so....how about a little real talk? There's a lot of talk about the QC on these...ESPECIALLY regarding the fretwork being spotty. lots of high frets. What are you seeing?
I have 2 of the new 2020 les paul models the joe bonamassa model n the 60s iced tea from the andertons video. I have no problems at all with both of em so all those problems about fretwork and on i cant relate to
I’ve read and heard a lot about the fret issues, but in our examples that we’ve had come thru the store we’ve seen one outlier that had a bad fret (fingers crossed). Other than that, without pulling the pickups etc fit and finish hasn’t been bad at all. The truss rod could use a tweak on some of them but nothing too crazy. Hope this helps and thank you!
@@claytonjones705 I'm ok with a truss rod turn. that's pretty easy. I also don't react to the common fit finish issues like a bit of paint on some binding, a tiny finish issue ect. but the frets are core to the function of the instrument functionality. Making notes. And they require skill that many if not most of us lack to resolve. Thanks for the answer. It helps.
In my experience so far it's just getting worse. The high frets are usually in the same spots too. I did find two Classics that were perfect tho. But that's out of dozens I've tried. For some reason the finish on the satin models is touch and go also. Uneven lines around the binding etc.
So what do they sound like?
Like A gibson, but two thousand dollars less expensive.
How’s the fret work. Been hearing they all will need a fret job out the box.
Goods descriptions but we like how sound.
How much is the Les Paul Custom price ? Thanks.
679. Just go to epiphone.com . All the prices are listed there.
If I didn’t mention it I’m sorry! $679 USD!
Buddy, play the guitar,we all know the specs.!!!!!!!
Ikr? Five and fourty five and he has yet to plug one in, no sale ever for this half wit know nothing about guitars but the label details.
You can always replace the pickup to fit to the sound you want. Sound is subjective depends on what type of music you play. The guy is telling you the specs that you cannot change which is a good thing.
They look great but it seems like the majority of reviews I have seen have had fret issues to some degree.
I noticed that Trogly kinda dogged on these guitars a bit for their fretwork, I don't think he's much of an Epiphone fan to begin with. But that Les Paul is calling my name...........
Hey Gary my name is Pat I have a custom silverburst I customized mine I suggest you try one out first to make sure you like the neck they are kinda flat shaped.
I've watched the Trogly vids on these, and he's providing a service giving us a heads up that sometimes, the fret work is spotty. Something to check extra careful on if we have one in our hands and a pocketful of cash that's burning a hole in our pocket. A brand new guitar should not have spotty frets. I love my Epi's.
all talk but can it walk?
No playing? I can read the specs.
I can always replace the pickups
I’m honestly SO shook they didn’t raise the price when it now comes with an actual ebony board. Like.... woah
Its epiphone they market it "mahogany" "ebony" "maple" it's prob a species close to ebony or close to the high end mahogany like on real Gibson's. Plus you don't know if your guitar is 3 or 5 peices . thats how they get away with the prices. Which are still high in my opinion. Fender pumps out some killer classic vibe guitars for cheaper from CHINA . epiphone is in CHINA. The question in my mind is why does epiphone comepete against Mexican fender prices? They are two different company's yes. But epiphone screams major profit off your $. Gibson already extorts a big profit from you. But there is no other way to have a real les paul.
Yes.
Extra binding? What, like extra cheese? Only the white strip on the outside is binding, the inner layers are called Purfling, PURFLING! Plus, it is the original Kalamazoo headstock they used since the old days, like on 60's models, wait you mean Gibson guitars are made of mahogany, next you will tell us it is a 24 and 3/4" scale.
P.s. It is called Purfling, the binding is the outside layer only!
Again with "extra binding" that is a three layer pick guard with a bevel.
Do you know what would be great? Listen to how these guitars actually sound!
I’m getting mine on the 27th it’s being shipped from the factory it’s a Gibson LesPaul custom ebony😜
These things play soo good that I really do not see the reason to by a Gibson any more!
Do these Epiphone's still have the super thick polyurethane finish? I could care less about any of the parts ill likely upgrade anyway but without a thin nitro or some sort of real lacquer finish I'll still never buy it. Always thought the ESP Edwards E- lp LTC guitars in lacquer from japan were a much much better value, or even some of the higher-end Chibsons on eBay and aliexpress. At least compared to Epiphone.... Seems that Gibson intentionally limits the quality which is otherwise available from asian manufacturers at this price point to not eat into sales of their over priced USA made stuff......
Still the same poly finish as before. The new 59 Standard Les Paul has a thinner poly “VOS” finish that you might dig though.
You are correct. Nitro can be less sticky and has a nice warm patina especially when it ages, but Poly is far more durable so it is totally subjective which finish is "superior." But they are still lightweight, resonant and now finally come with Gibson-rivaling hardware. Gibson Custom doesn't even have Ebony boards - "Richlite" graphite/plastic instead. The Gibson has slightly better fretwork and neck profile, whether that is worth and extra $1500 more is up to you, but you can correct all of that with a $150 setup that lasts 10 years
Still Talking and no playing?
Classic C neck , compared to a modern C
No tiene push pull como el modelo Pro, división de bobina y fuera de fase
No push/pull on the 2020. 👍
Too much talk,,not enough sound bytes!
WHERE ARE THE VIDEOS OF THE ALPINE WHITE LPC YOU COWARDS!!!!!!!!
Play them
No guitar sound.
Boring..sorry
