What made megas loved is what gamefreak didn't understand about what made them good, the fact that they felt more like an extra evolution, a mechanic, a new story for pokemons rather than a gimmick, you liked how strong they made pokemon feel and how the design made them look like a natural evolution, like mawile getting 2 mouths, mega venusaur continuing that sprout evolution, mega charizard x and y especially y looked like an evolution of charizard, they were awesome, but gamefreak instead thought, oh they liked meg evolutions because they were new, and that's why we got weird z moves, gigantamax looks like a qeird gimmick no different than cosplay pikachu or that gorgheist sizes, really like you see gigantamax you don't think oh wow gengar got a new evolution, no you think oh it's a gimmick that makes gengar bigger, and terastalization is just, oh now we can have monochromatic pokemon with a single type. People say gigantamax is better because it's more balanced, but honestly who cares about balance, in a game where only 10% at best of pokémon's are viable, and a game that started as a collection game not a battle game, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason why they keep making pokémon easier is to kill the competitive community, cause quite frankly they ruined the game for everyone lately. Also I'm positive even if gigantamax came first, people would still prefer megas, a 4th evolution or an evolution for legendaries were a concept as old as the very first generation, and megas were basically that, only thing that could compete with megas might be regional variants, but those too could work alongside megas, and maybe fusions can compete too, but those will never happen except for legendaries

Personally Megas don’t feel like gimmicks to me, they feel like something with proper world building and an extension or an evolution to what was previously there… All other gimmicks are kinda meh, especially when every pokemon can use it… Gigantimaxing and Dynamaxing was kinda cool because of the Kaiju aspect but personally I hated SwSh games… Z-moves hot stale real fast as they felt generic especially because of the not so great animations… Terrastalization as a concept is amazing, but I feel its just tacked on and with the crowns it feels even more so like a gimmick… Megas felt powerful, exclusive, unique and were beautifully designed giving the pokemon a new appearance, so they just felt natural, thought through
Exactly, also the fact that you must hold an item is a pretty big restriction. What this meant is that you could bring 2 pokemon (say gyrados, salamence) and your opponent wouldn't know which one was mega. And vice versa, you could also bait out counter plays from your opponent thinking you might use a really popular mega, when really you built an unorthodox tanky build with a berry or assault vest. Idk why people called it gimmicky, I remember it being one of the most fun competitive environments online, and lots of teams to experiment with.
Mega Evolution is obviously the most set up and popular gimmick (being the natural... I guess _evolution_ of Evolution, which has been a series staple since the very start), but imo Z-Moves did well as a side gimmick that went alongside Mega Evolution. For all the mons that weren't capable of Mega Evolving, they had Z-Moves to help them instead. Of course, there could have been better balancing between the two (IMO, you should have been allowed to use only one between _both_ mechanics in a given battle, so your team wasn't still always limited to at least 1 Mega Evolution mons like they tended to be back in Gen 6), but Gen 7 had something good going that could have been expanded upon instead of ditched altogether. Imagine 100 or so Mega Evolution choices and a slightly revamped Z-Move system that followed the way of Max Moves, trading some of the power boost (thus removing some of the cheese aspects of nuking a would be counter with a random 200 bp off meta attack) for some extra effects depending on the move typing - but without three turns of access to said boost and doubled HP.
I think the main problem of Megas is the inherent unfairness of only a select few pokemon getting megas (and said pokemon already being fan favorites 80% of the time). With terastillazation, Z moves and Dynamax it atleast feels like there's more strategy in it considering that any pokemon can have this powerful gimmick
I also think the fact that not every mon has it adds to this. Ik the competitive community may complain about it but the fact that it’s unique to only a few pokemon makes it seem more special. (And what you said about the anime at the end is soooo true too)
I think a big part of it was when they were introduced. gen 5 although loved by many I think they want received well at the time because it was coming off of gen 4 which had a unique story with the distortion world and such. But with a new game that had a gimmick such mega evolution it was bound to be popular it was something new that was needed
I love megas the lore and i love how its not a I used and I one shot . mega evolution is my favorite its basically super saiyan but for Pokemon no lie.
As someone who played every single pokemon game consistently from Pokemon Soulsilver (1999) up until Pokemon Omega Ruby (2014), I then stopped playing when they cut Mega's from the game. It was also the fact that I had pokemon (like my Charizard, Pikachu, Snorlax etc) that I had literally caught as a 5 year old in Firered (some even in XD Gale of Darkness lol) and transferred them all the way through many generations to pokemon Omega Ruby. But then they also took away my abilty to keep tranferring my beloved pokemon any further. So the combination of these 2 things made me quit my favorite childhood game :( but I hear rumors that mega's may return and if so then I might pick it up again we will see...
even tho i'm a late comer to the Pokemon series i always thought when reading on mega lore on how interesting it is compared the other gimmicks! if i can honestly i hope to get a ds or something to experience the kalos and alola games! also great vid as always pokee! very informative :)
Because it's not just an option for a specific pokemon whilst all have Access. You can't build off of other gimmicks as they're already complete and kinda boring, whereas Mega has so much potential that hasn't been unlocked
No you can bond with your Pokémon in so many different ways without mega evolution so mega evolution it pointless the problem with mega evolution Pokémon don’t even need to mega evolve

Personally I think regional variants are better than mega evolutions. They do a much better job improving old designs. But mega regional variants would be super cool. Since legends ZA is a legends game, regional variants are guaranteed
Its a gimmick but Mega’s is a battle mechanic. Regional variants can exist alongside Megas. But to have Megas, Z moves, Dynamax and Tera’s in one game would be ridiculous.
@@deGoomyan5538 There is a chance that we will get mega regional variants. Because every new game always has improved Regional variants. SWSH gave us regional evolutions and legendery's. legends arceus gave us regional variants of the past and starters. SV gave us regional fakes. This would also explain why the New mega evolution cannot be seen in the present. The Mega stones are there, but the regional variant that contains the Megas is no longer there
On god people say mega evolution hurts Pokemon……… They are not real so why care our favorite Pokemon are getting an extra EVOLUTION TO GO FURTHER BEYOND
Mega Evolution is simply the best in my opinion For me personally I don’t care for competitive balance I know there’s many that do but I don’t , the designs for the mega are cool as hell, some Pokémon become strong enough to be classed stronger than some legendary Pokémon and actually get used like sableye and Mawhile and it felt like a new breath of life was introduced in the series like some of the Pokémon you can go even further beyond what you knew it does help that the Gen 6 anime and side special OVAs and the mega evolution specials really raised the hype level for what mega evolution is Z moves weren’t bad but at least you had the option to run both during it run in Gen 7 Dynamax is just way too boring for me and Gigantamax doesn’t help just because the Pokémon become titanic in size and _can_ get double their own hit points doesn’t impress me if anything like the next one felt too much like it was just tailor made for competitive battles Terastalization is almost as boring as Dynamax but atleast gave me the wish fulfillment of a steel type Haxorus at the cost of that stupid as hat it wears and unlike Dynamax like mega evolution and Z moves you can use it whenever you want
Megas gave a linear evolution. Tho I will say, it doesn’t make any unintentional game breaking mechanics. (E.I Tera Electric Shedinja with Air Balloon)
Another thing about Mega Evolution when it's comes Competitive Pokemon battle it make the pokemon extra base stats making the pokemon more powerful and their ability making it broken for example Mega Rayquaza ability Delta Stream which makes it flying weakness gone
I've always been someone who doesn't hate megas but im not crazy about them either. Always just kinda annoyed me that people think their the best and some think their flawless and that the other gimmicks aren't valid or equal (mind y'all i just think their all important in their own ways) another thing that bothers me is the concept (at least in the manga and anime) of not having you have to earn mega and then them stay permanently like that after despite providing your bond and dedication. I can get the game reason since that's to broken. But the others don't have a excuse. (Side note on Tera) It technically does have a legendary Pokemon and lore connected to it in Terapagos. It's said that Area 0 is full of it's own self created energy due to its slumber down there and with Terapagos said to have been common in olden days it adds up why Kitakami has natural tera energy. 😉
Oh, definitely, I know where you're coming from, but megas has paved the way for the other gimmicks to come forward, and not to mention more and more ideas have gotten less creative over time
@@Pokiiii62 for sure! Without megas we wouldn't even have the others! And yeah the idea of "big nuke based on type damage" is definitely a little stale. Hopefully legends Z-A can spice things up with a few new megas that have some unique qualities.
Actually only the Z-Moves need bond between Trainer and Pokémon, Dynamax is almost a virus to the Pokémon world that humans learned to use and Terastal, i'm not actually sure to be honest... I also wanted to say that the origin between the Z-Moves and the Dynamax is the exact same: Legendary is mortally wounded, pieces of it fly into the region and the Gimmick is created. Terastal is a little different, since it spread out of the Terapagos in Area Zero Underdepths and Mega Evolution came from the blast of the Ultimate Weapon. Calling Z-Moves more unique is mostly because Necrozma is PEAK Legendary Pokémon, i still love Z-Moves, but it's not that original. I also think the other Gimicks are used better for being usable by ALL Pokémon and not some like Mega Evolution: In that way we have NO Megas for Kalos Pokémon, we have TWO Megas for Charizard and Mewtwo.. Which honestly angers me...
Bro Mega-Evolution Should Be The Main Gimmick Of Pokemon. Sure Other Gimmicks Can Co-Exist And All But Mega-Evolution Just Fits Pokemon As A Whole Alot More Cause Of Pokemon's Whole Thing About There's So Much We Don't Know About Pokemon Shtick And Mega-Evolution Fits The Bill Cause It Has Alot More Lore Than The Other Gimmicks And The Fact That A Trainer Needs A Strong Bond With There Pokemon In Order To Do It And As I Said Just A Few Seconds Ago Mega-Evolution Fits With Pokemon's Whole There's So Much We Don't Know About Pokemon Cause There's Alot To Mega-Evolution That We Don't Know Like Battle Bond Primal Reversion's Heck Mega-Evolution Got It's Own Side Series Not To Say The Other Gimmicks Are Lame It's Just Mega-Evolution Is Far More Superior Cause It Fits With Pokemon So Well Unlike The Other Gimmicks Like For Dynamax/Gigantamax We Know That Trainer's Can Do Them Just From Having A Wishing Star In A Max Band And That The Wishing Star's Come From Eternatus When It Was Defeated No Mystery There As Well As Z-Moves We Know That Z-Moves Came From Ultra Nekrozma When It Lost It's Light (I'm Not To Sure On The Z-Moves One) But Regardless We Know Z-Moves Originated From Ultra Nekrozma Again No Mystery There Contrast To Mega-Evolution That Has Mass Lore And Depth.
I never liked gigantimax it seems like there trying to hard to compensate or z moves and I hate terrestrialization too lol mega evolution is the true evolution
Because it hurts the pokemon undergoing mega-evolution and most people are sadistic enough that love anything that causes anybody to suffer. Pokemon are supposed to be friends, comrades, and then you choose to mega-evolve them out of your selfish desire to make them feel pain. Scizzors armor is heated up so much that it's melting it's flesh
I think I also comes down to the fact that mega evolution is actually quite rare in Pokémon law, with the other gimmicks it feels like anyone and everyone can have it
One point i disagree with you on is saying that every other gen gimmick is based on the bond btwn trainer and pokemon. G max and tera have literally no reference to a bond being needed whatsoever
I mean mega just makes more sense. The other gimmicks just amp the Pokémon’s power somehow. With mega it makes more sense because we already see pokemon evolve up to three times, so why can’t there be a fourth
My theory of Giantamax and Terra is a pokemon mutation of their innate evalution limits why only pokemon can evolve eith an item or human intervention is because of pokemon high adaptability of theit environment one evolves to survive better in the conditions they are in and Gigantamax/Terra and other gimicks are just people manipulating pokemon genetics Giagantamax is made because of eternatus an invasive species as an alien poluted the original environment making the ecosystem of pokemon adapt to be able to take in Gigantamax energy to use against other pokemon as in space their infinite room to grow and the unique form are pokemon that have evolve to adapt with the new environment same with terraz with the I think meterior made of foreign terra element from also out of space mutated the are it landed micing eith the DNA of the pokemon and was used by pokemon to make up for their elemental or physical shortcomings and professors have been able to somehow make it practical in pokemon battles because it entertainment alot of wealth and research is funded by pokemon league to keep the entire industry so people use them to make their specific league unique from others same how each continent of coutry can have their own football league which is a billion dollar industry
No offense, I love mega evolution, but I think it’s worse than Tera in competitive or multiplayer. Only like 15 or less of these things were ever good at some point, and only an even smaller number of them were consistently good. Mega Beedrill: That insane attack and speed is gonna be useless if you get one shot by mega Scizor bullet punch or mega Salamence quick attack. Plus, beedrill is a bug and poison type, the two worst types in the game. Mega Rayquaza: I don’t think he needs any explanation. Salamence: Gets bulkier, faster, stronger, and turns Double Edge into Brave Bird on steroids. Other megas are really broken and some are underwhelming. My first and only main series Pokemon game is Sword. I like its graphics, but I also just think Dynamax is a better mechanic because since any pokemon can dynamax, it makes more Pokémon viable.
Ok, I’ll admit it. I like mega evolution, but not that much because I think it’s unhealthy for competitive. Btw, what’s your favorite mega, Pokeee? Mine is Gyarados or Rayquaza.
Another reason why I think megas are overrated is because they were only given to a small number of Pokemon, while with Dynamax, you can use it with any Pokemon.
Mega lore is actualy trash m8 literally goes against the core of pokemon, it hurts your pokemon alot of the time in lore, some of them go berserk and are known to beat up their trainers we see this with lucario often in the anime, its also the moat toxic competitive gimmic adding 0 actual dept besides bringin in a mega or a counter to watever mega is popular at the time(mega raykuaza) tera added better dept to the gameplay with its variation and the fact anione could use it so any pokemon can benefit(it fucking saved ice tipes for arceus sake) and gigantamax was a better mote balanced version of megas.
Found the swsh defender, dynamax was banned in 6v6, monotype and Ubers, it’s horribly broken especially when compared to megas or even tera also your so called “truth” about mega evolutions was literally just relying on the stupid Pokédex entries which are nothing but BS because it thinks the player is apparently worse than Voldemort for using megas

(And what you said about the anime at the end is soooo true too)
I wished Pokemon would add more Mega Evolutions
Me 2
Maybe in Z-A
I’m estimating 15-20 new megas for legends Z-A
Megas would forever be the best gimmick ever made by Pokemon
Hoping there's more Pokemon to mega evolve like the eeveelutions
I agre
Mega Evolution is badass. Do you need another reason?
Fr 😭
Not to mention it help improves upon weaker Pokémon like mawile and absol
For sure
Yeah, but they also made Salamence, Metagross, and Rayquaza actual gods.
@@kailesperance1922 yeah and rayquaza made a whole new tier on smogon lol.
Insane that they got a gimmick nearly perfect on the first try.
I think a big part of it was when they were introduced. gen 5 although loved by many I think they want received well at the time because it was coming off of gen 4 which had a unique story with the distortion world and such. But with a new game that had a gimmick such mega evolution it was bound to be popular it was something new that was needed
they better give my man Flygon a mega he is long overdo for one
FOR REALLL
I love megas the lore and i love how its not a I used and I one shot . mega evolution is my favorite its basically super saiyan but for Pokemon no lie.
Just realized that mega evolution is kinda like ultimate aliens from Ben 10😊
True!
Because I feel like Pokemon fans have thought what if Pokemon had a fourth evolution and that's what Mega evolutions are.
Mega Evolution was like a real game changer in battles. It gave some Pokemon a new ability and/or type.
even tho i'm a late comer to the Pokemon series i always thought when reading on mega lore on how interesting it is compared the other gimmicks! if i can honestly i hope to get a ds or something to experience the kalos and alola games!
also great vid as always pokee! very informative :)
Thanks friend! 💙
Because it's not just an option for a specific pokemon whilst all have Access. You can't build off of other gimmicks as they're already complete and kinda boring, whereas Mega has so much potential that hasn't been unlocked
See you in 12h i gess it is time to sleep after this wholl mess
People want to make a real bonding with their favorite pokemon
Mega is the symbol of it
For REAL
No you can bond with your Pokémon in so many different ways without mega evolution so mega evolution it pointless the problem with mega evolution Pokémon don’t even need to mega evolve
@@Pokiiii62 Bro the anime was so fire, I remember back then all my friends wanted to stop watching pokemon altogether after Ash lost it hurt bad (prolly was a mistake on their part) now even becoming world champion with such a puny anime series that barely anyone watched feels bad man, Ash deserved a better sendoff ngl
Mega Evolution is simply the best in my opinion For me personally I don’t care for competitive balance I know there’s many that do but I don’t , the designs for the mega are cool as hell, some Pokémon become strong enough to be classed stronger than some legendary Pokémon and actually get used like sableye and Mawhile and it felt like a new breath of life was introduced in the series like some of the Pokémon you can go even further beyond what you knew it does help that the Gen 6 anime and side special OVAs and the mega evolution specials really raised the hype level for what mega evolution is
Z moves weren’t bad but at least you had the option to run both during it run in Gen 7
Dynamax is just way too boring for me and Gigantamax doesn’t help just because the Pokémon become titanic in size and _can_ get double their own hit points doesn’t impress me if anything like the next one felt too much like it was just tailor made for competitive battles
Terastalization is almost as boring as Dynamax but atleast gave me the wish fulfillment of a steel type Haxorus at the cost of that stupid as hat it wears and unlike Dynamax like mega evolution and Z moves you can use it whenever you want
Megas gave a linear evolution. Tho I will say, it doesn’t make any unintentional game breaking mechanics. (E.I Tera Electric Shedinja with Air Balloon)
Let's be honest, they do look really cool. I shat my pants first time I saw Mega Charizard X in the Origin anime
Wow I just found your channel I watched 2 vids I'm subbing I'm hoping for more content like this😅

I think its quite simple really.
Pokemon super saiyans
Bring it back please!
Pokeee cooked and it was very delicious
Ayyy, glad you liked the video!
Another thing about Mega Evolution when it's comes Competitive Pokemon battle it make the pokemon extra base stats making the pokemon more powerful and their ability making it broken for example Mega Rayquaza ability Delta Stream which makes it flying weakness gone
Can you talk about bigest Nerf's in Pokémon Anime 😅😊
Maybeeee
To put in a simple way Z-moves , Dynamax and Teracristal are LAZY gimmick
Sorry For The Super Long Comment.
I 100% agree. The only thing is a nerf for competitive since even I can agree it's really broken, but it's so amazing 😭
@@Pokiiii62 Ya Man Exactly, Cause Having Mega-Evolution's In Mainline Game's Again Would Be Great.
I consider what ash and greninja dose mega evolution no matter what
I never liked gigantimax it seems like there trying to hard to compensate or z moves and I hate terrestrialization too lol mega evolution is the true evolution
Gmax and Tera dont need bons, idk abt Z moves
Not sure what u mean by bons

You can thank Lufenas my thumbnail maker for that
I really hate how 1nd/2nd MEGa Mon can't Evolution, because it already had MEGa evo.
Just break the MEGa evo rules already.
I think I also comes down to the fact that mega evolution is actually quite rare in Pokémon law, with the other gimmicks it feels like anyone and everyone can have it
I Like G-max better also SWSH review when???
Get out.
@@ilovebigafrobaddies no.
One point i disagree with you on is saying that every other gen gimmick is based on the bond btwn trainer and pokemon. G max and tera have literally no reference to a bond being needed whatsoever
It's talked about in the anime
I mean mega just makes more sense. The other gimmicks just amp the Pokémon’s power somehow. With mega it makes more sense because we already see pokemon evolve up to three times, so why can’t there be a fourth
It’s nostalgia based.
I kinda hope Kleavor gets a Mega.
lol megas wouldn't be popular at all if they switched place with terastal
With terastal you can change your typing you can allow a fire type Pokémon to be a bulky water
@@yarc9but it looks like crap. Srsly crystals on the Pokémon’s forehead who greenlit that?
IS COMP THE ONLY THING U COMPLAINED ABOUT??? I legit acknowledged its imbalance for comp in the video, not to mention it's WHY it is POPULAR 😭
You say some of them goes berserk like lucario in the anime, as I DIDNT SAY THAT IN THE VIDEO, dawg... did you disregard everything I said 😭
Found the swsh defender, dynamax was banned in 6v6, monotype and Ubers, it’s horribly broken especially when compared to megas or even tera also your so called “truth” about mega evolutions was literally just relying on the stupid Pokédex entries which are nothing but BS because it thinks the player is apparently worse than Voldemort for using megas
