My concern with a setup like this is that managers in leagues that aren't switched on often get fired and not replaced. This is also going to impact team's performance in continental comps, making the champions league a bit easier. It's hard to find that sweet spot and balance efficiency with a realistic world unfortunately. I think I'll add in your optimised db file and then add some of the bigger leagues in Europe as playable for my saves this year. I often end up having a large loan army like yourself and I don't want to be loaning to clubs without managers personally.
Thanks Matt! Doing a journeyman from Australia, through the Jleague then to Europe. Kinda like Ange I was worried about having a fair few view only leagues but it seems it should run pretty smoothly!
Are you sure that the view-only setup generates more player transfer activity? Also note that the biggest issue with view-only leagues are that managers are not being replaced after sacking/retiring. This results in on not making it viable for journeyman setups as a lot of leagues when being switched to playable down the line will have no active current managers on the playable teams.
I am also not sure, if this is the whole 'story'. Other 'sources' have opposite opinions in this regard. However, it's fine if it works for people. But regarding the missing managers at view-only-teams: why should I care? ;-) Seriously: will those team perform worse? I mean, their games are simulated anyway (except those against my own team)?
In every test i've done, it immediately increased transfer activity having them on view only. Now as i said, this is much more optimised for non journeyman saves, and since i haven't done one for a few years i can't really speak to the long term effects in those specifics saves. I mostly mentioned it as last time i had a lot of questions about journeyman setups.

This is what I needed before start my long term save :D Thanks!
This looks brilliant and very welcome. I don’t as a rule do journeyman saves. I tend to only manage in England. So I will be giving this a go. It’s an area that’s always confused me. Thanks very much.
I played in FM23 all leagues playable and 250k players and after 20 years in a save the average season took me like 10 hrs to complete(taking into account the players transfers, staff transfers, player interaction etc.) And actually AI is very active in transfers also adapting to your tactic and very tough to beat. For me personally its ok if i play 1 season of fm in 1-2 days but the game is very hard and realistic. If i do one league playable i win everything in 5-10 years and it gets boring.
People can use any setup they want, i just get a lot of questions about the way i set the game up, so making a video about it was an easier way to handle those plus, it allowed me to run speed tests. Not everyone has access to high spec PCs that can run the game as fast so optimisation can be important
So do you start the game with every single league set as playable? I do 1 save always long term and don't miss a press conference and I'd never finish a season in 10 hours haha.
For me it's close to 10 hours of just match time per season. Lets say 10 mins per match if we count everything: setting up squad, team talks, substitutions and ofc the actual highlights. Times 50-60 games per season and we are already in that 10 hour range before even accounting for any inbetween time. Obviously if you quick pick the squad and/or quick sim the matches you can get through a lot quicker, or even vacation through large parts of the season.
the problem of adding view only for a journeyman save is that the "hey let me load now this league as playable bc I want to go there" breaks the immersion of the save a bit, you want to try multiple jobs from multiple leagues, not one you like more.
I never like to play with a single league, even if I keep the number of players high. Because the closure of other leagues affects the dynamics of those leagues and teams very badly and the game becomes very easy. The fact that other leagues are also open makes it easier for teams to make more logical moves and receive transfer offers. I always open the 12-15 important leagues down to the lowest league and play with almost 175k players
Playing on only One active league is like playing on Very Easy. Teams in non playable leagues will make considerably less transfers (view-only will make sligtly more transfers but still a far less than playable) so their squads will be weaker, they won't hire new staff after sacking the starting one. Game is processing faster than predecesors so playing like that has less more sence than in previous years.
If you want the game on super-easy mode, that's the way to set up your database. You get your pick of thousands of players with next to no competition for their signature as you've only one country's league loaded. In a game that's already pretty easy anyway, this is basically guaranteeing you success. It's totally worth the extra processing time to add in a lot more leagues as you get a much more balanced gameworld. If you want a bit more challenge, that is.
What Ive found really uncomfortble this edition is the fact that I cant load a new game, then save without picking any club and let that "blank" save game for another career game. Maybe Im doing something wrong now in FM24, but if I choose a nation, even without selecting a club and loading several nations as "playable", it locks me out of chosing any other nation.
I think my fm24 might be broken. I've downloaded your file, put it in the correct folder but can't find it when trying to load it in to the game. If I set up the database manually with only England playable with other leagues set to view only, the game launches with NO leagues playable and only international teams playable. I'm at a loss as to what's going wrong!
Is there a way of doing this to saves your have already started? I’m using Cardiff and only have a small data base am I gunna have to restart it all and load a larger data?
Working on it over the course of this week, it's taking quite a while as I want to put every scouting method I've used into one video. Hope to have it out by the end of the week :)
my database setup is like this: using your optimized database as a base, I add top 2 division of top 5 nations as view-only and go to database -> advanced -> division -> add top 5 nations and tick top 2 division of said nations.
Hi thank you for helping me start this journey been playing cm since 2002 gonna go to Peru and manage Sport Boys. So i took the info from the video much appreciated thank you, should i add anything else to the game before i start the career?

Quick question after watching the database set up video if you load leagues on view only and load the players from there see divisions in the database will the game keep generating players for those leagues
I am not sure if this is the difference from FM23.4 to FM24. My save setup the same way as you was started in the beta of FM23 and I had over 58k teams now if I did a brand new in Fm23 final 23.4 update it was down to 42k teams same setup. So just the beta of fm23 to final version had 15k-16k less teams.
We were running comparison tests using the latest updates on FM23 and still finding an awful lot of missing teams, another reason we know that this is happening, but i found this out after the video was made, is that the game is actually assigning IDs to regen players that should be reserved for players that already exist. This is another indicator that it's not loading the teams in the same way. We were getting regens as an example in Greece i think it was that had real faces assigned to them from licensed league players who had faces in the game by default. Without a facepack. So something has definitely changed. I'm not overly concerned about it as it makes things faster but i felt it was important to discuss anyway :)
So I started a JM with EVERYTHING, All Leagues and 500k players but I did the Real World option and everything was slow, I was expecting that but I started a new save, same thing but this time picked Original and the game ran smoother, I'm already in the 2026 season something that would have took me at least another few weeks judging from the time it took in FM23
About a lot of regens being created when you have 1 nation and a lot of players loaded in the custom database: How far back is this principle the same? Is it the same in FM 22??
Might seem a stupid question but does anyone know whether stats will be able to be viewed (goals, assists, clean sheets), I presume not because the league's aren't loaded but idk
Great video again! But I have one question: When I use the Database-selection-File you provided, I end up with 450,000 players in FM24. Can you tell me, if this is ok or if I did anything wrong? I was thinking the number of players should be in range of your number of players as the same continents and leagues were selected. Perhaps you have a hint for me?
That is very strange indeed, and certainly shouldn't show up like that. I'm sorry that that happened. The best thing to do would be to just copy the settings i used in the video and you'll get the same effect as if you'd used the file :)
I heard that there is a fix to revenue coming from ads for lesser leagues to be based on team reputation. Can someone direct me to a video that goes about it?
Good video however loading just one league for any save longer than 3-5 years is a bad idea. Clubs become static and the continental comps are severely hampered.
I know this video is 3 months old, but I could really do with an answer on something I have discovered in the last week regarding databases that I could with an answer. I have a Predator Helios 300, which I am led to believe pretty powerful. However, when the English lower leagues down to level 13 were published last week my laptop became problematical. I chose a village side near me down in level 13. Treacle could get a bad rep for speeding compared to my speed with this database. It takes 5 to 10 mins to click and move to the next day. If someone is listening, PLEASE HELP
Do you need to select the "add players to playable teams"? Isn't this just to add players right at the start? And wouldnt it only be the league u selected?
You don't have to, i just do that out of habit especially when managing in smaller leagues to make sure you get youth teams. Turning this on also seems to generate regens at the very start to populate national u19 squads etc so you can find some monsters in there even in season one :)
I'm fortunate enough to be able to select most countries with about 165k players. Once it's fully released I'll try all leagues and see if it melts my PC.
I believe we tried a setup that manually loaded every division's players and still were finding gaps. It feels like especially with teams from leagues not in the base game, without a custom database made to activate that league once the editor is out, some teams may not be accessible at all
im playing from xbox gamepass on pc. for some reason it wont add other english leagues for me. i want to play as saffron walden town fc. anyone know why?
With view only you can see that, but not if they aren't switched on at all. It comes down to priorities and what you want out of a save. Turning all the leagues on will allow you to see the tables, but it will come at the expense of speed. Like drastically slows it down. However if you enjoy being able to see all that information on the leagues then this may not be the setup for you :)
@@Secondyellowcard Thankyou! When you say slow down the speed? I’m okay with slower loading times (I tend to have like 10 8 leagues on viewable), but will it also harm the computer more in terms of slowing it down outside of football manager?
always make leagues like brazil (even if u never will manage a team there) playable try it u will see make brazil playable or view only the difference is huge in u19 squads (i mean i tried all kinda league setups for so many years its just true)

i would love if u could make a Journeyman version of the setup
Im on console and cant figure out how to be an international manager
Do you need to select the "add players to playable teams"? Isn't this just to add players right at the start? And wouldnt it only be the league u selected?
You don't have to, i just do that out of habit especially when managing in smaller leagues to make sure you get youth teams. Turning this on also seems to generate regens at the very start to populate national u19 squads etc so you can find some monsters in there even in season one :)
A MacBook pro should be capable of using this right?
yes but if you don activate any nations and leagues, your players ends of having 0 transfer offers.
I'm fortunate enough to be able to select most countries with about 165k players. Once it's fully released I'll try all leagues and see if it melts my PC.
is it fast load on a super pc say rtx 4090 set up
very helpful!
Tbh I've always done this expecting how it worked, at least now it does lmao
I just load up all players and 1 country then toggle as i go. 300k+ is worth the patience for
What about if we put all nations on view only do we get back that clubs that we lost?
I believe we tried a setup that manually loaded every division's players and still were finding gaps. It feels like especially with teams from leagues not in the base game, without a custom database made to activate that league once the editor is out, some teams may not be accessible at all
Where did you get that skin from.......
problem is my processing breaks will be ridiculously slow
Thanks for this guide! When will your Malta save start? Will be exciting to watch since I'm Maltese and should be in your save 🤣
It's quite confusing... I see people saying the view-only doesn't improve the quantity of transfers/offers.
im playing from xbox gamepass on pc. for some reason it wont add other english leagues for me. i want to play as saffron walden town fc. anyone know why?
Does this mean we can’t see how each league is going? I’m always curious to see what the table looks like in other leagues :/
Is there a way to stop FM from generating new players ?
why would you ever want to do that? unless you want to play only for 1 season?
@@Trauma_Clown I dislike regens and want to use up every player on the database I loaded
always make leagues like brazil (even if u never will manage a team there) playable try it u will see make brazil playable or view only the difference is huge in u19 squads (i mean i tried all kinda league setups for so many years its just true)
Genius!
It seems regardless of how I set up leagues the regens that generate are all rubbish. Means any long terms saves are impossible. Any advice?
Get better scouts
Why is my clubs on fm not the actual badges
Many UA-camrs use Pc mod packs to add badges and real kits
The add leagues also add players. Did that too . And got regens of 25/ 30 Years old from those countries .
Who else don't play FM but watch all the tutorials/guides anyway?
