Knuckles doesn’t need the Emeralds for that beyond planet to Star level scaling, as of Adventure 1, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles scale relative to Chaos 4 who ofc has 4 chaos emeralds. And based on how Sonic as a series works, the characters get stronger over time
If that was the case then why did they need the Gaia Temples and the Chao Emeralds if they could move the planets pieces themselves?

Toon force is a power that Mario Characters have shown to have on a consistent basis and because Mario and Sonic Characters are originally video game characters, it only feels fair to utilize their video game feats. People heavily sleep on the powers and abilities of Mario characters both with and without their powerups. Look at it this way: if Nintendo felt like it was a priority to establish just how strong Mario characters are, then the series would have more consistent scaling, but the thing is, Mario is usually whatever the story/game requires of him, which is why the powerscaling is all over the place, but even with the little they do show, it's pretty clear that Mario or any character from his series isn't outright getting stomped by any Sonic character any day. They would have to work, and I mean WORK for that junk and even then, it's ridiculous how much Mario characters can handle. I'll admit I'm slightly more biased towards Mario, but it's also just annoying to hear how blatantly disrespectful and frankly insufferable SOME Sonic fans are in these types of debates.

Yeah I mean remember when Ty said that 3D World Mario (Which I still don't agree with his every Mario is not the same Mario argument) > Paper Mario and the only reason why he thinks that is because Mario has more power-ups in 3D World. That has to be one of the most stupidest things I've ever heard because let me ask if we pretend the power-ups don't exist what kind of accomplishments did 3D World Mario show that make him superior to Paper Mario? What feats does he have that would put Paper Mario to shame? I honestly can't come up with anything. It's as if he's trying to say that Paper Mario's accomplishments are irrelevant just because 3D World Mario has more power-ups. I mean heck he even got what power-ups 3D World Mario had in his arsenal wrong. He said that 3D World Mario could use the Gold Flower which doesn't come from 3D World but instead from NSMB2 (and if you're going to say he meant to include the 2D titles as well he specified that Mario is the same in ONLY 3D Land and 3D World he didn't mention anything about him being the same Mario in the 2D games as well). He also says White Tanooki Mario (and in this case normal Tanooki Mario as well) can't fly but we see in the credits of 3D Land that he CAN fly with the suit.
I honestly believe all he does is look at the Mario characters with a broad perspective and don't take into consideration just how strong they are without power-ups. Not to mention his "Not every Mario is the same Mario" statement can easily be debunked by one cutscene in Odyssey alone. (It's when Mario captures Bowser).

1:59: I hate this argument. Just because he can "keep up with sonic", doesn't mean he is anywhere near as fast. Thats never been implied except mayyyyyybe in the classic games. And even then, its only like that for gameplay reasons. Thats like saying Mario is faster than light because he can outpace Rosalina in 3d world. We can assume that knuckles' speed is superhuman, and that his reaction speed is insane since he fought sonic, but in terms of movement? We've yet to see evidence of how fast he can truly go in his games.

Knuckles actually isn’t as fast as Sonic, but his strength is said he on par to Sonic’s speed (which we know at this point as far surpassed the speed of light multiple times). He also punched Sonic so hard, he reverted him out of his Super Form and made him drop the chaos emeralds. Keep in mind, Super Transformations grant near invincibility and can not be harmed but still knocked back. There are beings however that have managed to damage Super Sonic, such as Solaris, Dark Gaia, and Time Eater. All are deity like beings with a huge connection to the Chaos Force. Knuckles would have been using a chaos energy induced punch to pull that off.

You guys should’ve check out Downplay the Hedgehog by Aries Scarlet- especially episodes 5 and 6 (he swears a lot though so fair warning)
I really hated how sometimes other people would just Nerf one character so that they could just feel better that their favorite character would win
