- Lost Patrol is an action / strategy computer game developed by Shadow Development and published by Ocean Software Ltd, released for Amiga computers in 1990 and the Atari ST in 1991. A DOS version was later released by Astros Productions. Despite appearances, all graphical cut scenes except the black and white in-game animations are hand drawn, not digitised.
The game is set during the Vietnam War, where on June 7, 1966, a U.S. helicopter, returning troops from a rest and relaxation break in Saigon crashes in remote highlands of Vietnam. Seven U.S. soldiers, survivors of the crash, face the task of trekking across 58 miles of harsh terrain infested with booby traps and enemy soldiers and make their way to Du Hoc, the nearest U.S. military base. The team has little food or ammunition and their chances of making it home are slim.
Ocean Software (or Ocean Software Ltd. and sometimes Ocean of America, Inc. but generally only referred to as Ocean) was one of the biggest European video game developers of the 1980s and 90s. The company was founded by David Ward and Jon Woods and were based at 6, Central Street, Manchester. Ocean developed dozens of games for a variety of systems such as the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Amiga, PC, and video game consoles such as the NES and SNES.

I remember back in 89 when I was 8 years old, one night I woke up and went down the stairs to take apiss at 1o clock in the night. I found my 17 year old brother in front of the tv playin this game. He didnt say " Göran, go to bed ". Instead I sat down with my brother and tried to figure out how the hell we could get those soldiers back to home camp. Memories!
aronlakehill My anecdote about that game is no less funny. When I played this for the first time my mum asked if you had to kill humans in it. A „yes“ and I wouldn’t have been allowed to continue playing it... Since she knew nothing about that back then I compared it to North&South and she let me play it further. I found it too sad to continue though so I stopped playing by myself because I couldn’t get my soldiers home. If one game is anti-war, then this one.
This is why I remember this game - great music!
One of the best music games ever
Amiga was one hell of an underrated, criminally overlooked PC. I've yet to have seen a shit game for it, and it feels like any program or application made for it was made with love.
Certainly so much better than the trash they bring out mostly now. There seems to be no imagination anymore. I can't remember what it was called but it had one hell of a paint program that also worked to do animations (albeit very simple ones but still) and I used to spend hours with it trying stuff. The Amiga versions of games back then were the dogs whatsnames, I've played the PC version of Gunship 2000 and it couldn't hold a candle graphically to the Amiga version. Ah those were the days. I miss my A500. I'd use my A1200 if I could only find a reasonably priced mouse for it.
Great game, amazing tune. The game was hard to beat, I still remember how proud I was when I brought all my men back home safely and alive....
gomez put a live grenade in your backpack.
you are dead.
I've also finished the game. The key was to let your men rest 10 minutes a lot to make it. I think I got to the ending with only one soldier killed by a trap just near the US base.
Loved this game and it was great to hear its music again.
I nearly have to cry if i listen to this. Such great times....never come back again .... :(
The sound and game were worldclass :)
This track might be the best ever made of that period of time, so emotional. Never completed the game.
Epic tune.
I remember my mom buying me my Amiga 500. I was soooo happy. This game came with it. I had to cut cords and wire them together to get all the music we. Ahhh. Such happy times
das waren noch Zeiten
@Richtschwert I totally know how you feel, because I do the same, and often spend all night long, listening to these intros and game scores, thinking back, dozing off into the 80'ies of Lost Patrol, Supremacy, Elite, Bards Tale, Cannon Fodder, Speedball, Lemmings,... sigh... Too many memories to list here :)
Simply the best theme song to a game EVER. Right after on a fine 2nd place is the theme from USS John Young. Also an Amiga game.
Wspaniały utwór! Szkoda że nie można cofnąć czasu... Łza się w oku kręci jak się wspomina te wspaniałe chwile! Greetz for all oldschoolers!
It is one of the games which are always will be CLASSIC, EPIC, BEST etc.
@westgoten Same here! I forgot what the game was called untill some time ago I suddenly recalled it, and voila, found this awesome bassline tune that I had had in my head for years and years.
One of the best musics in Amiga.
OMG thank you THANK YOU this game was brilliant and the music was the best shame that games are not like this anymore am i the only one to think that the challange of gameing is lost on the looks of a game now days? given the choice id pick a amiga game over say halo anyday. anyways thanks again dude for this amazeing trip down memorie lane
Excellent !!!
They were lost because they were a long way from home!
Can't praise this enough. There still isn't any game like it. Nuff said
awesome...i love this soundtrack. Great memory to my childhood
IMO this is one of the best tunes in video gaming and fits this game perfectly, if only the game itself wasn't so difficult I might have seen more than about a tenth of it! :)
Ahh, the nostalgia of this is just epic.
Thank you :)
@Richtschwert lol, i'm so glad i'm not the only one who's almost welling up here, listening to all the old amiga music.
Such amazing memories, and so glad i was old/young enough to be part of that period in gaming.
After several tries I did and brought every soldier back home alive. Completing a game this hard feels really good.
This is the most epic soundtrack of all games ever made!
Mitch Murder remix brought me here.
As with me ahaha. His version is great!
+big blOOz both are so good
Kuokka77 brought me to Mitch Murder
Cos it is one of the kind and remember you a childhood
THANKS FOR THIS ETERNAL MUSIC
immer wieder gut
Yeah I managed to do it. Spent whole day doing that. But man I rarely ever get so much satisfaction after finishing a game.
very "Platoon" like, trying, very successfully, to recreate war tragedy...and nonsense...5/5 - brave project
Still the best GAMEIDEA in comparison with all games I knew! There should be a REMAKE!!!
Its pretty much Oregon trail Vietnam version.
So there is something somewhat like it.
@locuswheeler 7 Amigas here and plus loads of additional hardware. Still want to buy more. Got around 1000 3,5 floppy disks and over 100GB of Amiga software stored on my RAID5 =).
Top notch moody music.
fuckin epic
I know they're not related, but this has a resemblance to the stage 1 theme in Lion King (SNES/MD)
Apparently this game had a copy protection scheme where if the game noticed it wasn't an original, your squad would turn into homicidal maniacs and knife you or put a nade in your backpack.
@Pansometer47 Indeed
i meant "amiga" , stupid keyboard....
@sweeter12 racja
I bought atari version and the music is different and very very bad. Amiga is awesome.
Yeah, it turns me on!
porno theme lol
Two songs define Amiga tracker game music: The Lost Patrol and the main theme of Shadow of the Beast. Both are epic songs.
Uplink X64 only 2?
Uplink X64 you forgot lotus challenge2
Gods and Oil Imperium are also top soundtracks for me...
Man i cant believe i found this. was one of the best game scores! I only had the demo of the game but i never forgot the music. Thanks for posting the vid mate.
THE BEST game theme song ever. Unforgettable.
One of the BEST game theme songs ever made.
Childhood.
I'm 42 now. I get a little misty eyed listening to this.
c64 musicians were brilliant, all had skills...... respect.....
i can hardly remember shit from the game itself, but the bassline of this one has stuck in my mind for decades... Love it! :)
Still love this song.
A mod of the game "Jagged Alliance 2" named "Demise of man" uses this music ingame. It´s still alive after so many years.
I remember when I`ve completed this game in some calm evening. And I will remember this evening ! :)
i never really got into this game because i was too young but i liked to play it just because of that awesome music
My dad was always telling me when i played this game that the music was giving him goose bumps.... so sad....
We are all getting old aye. But we still play these games like BF42 and COD and love to pwn the young kids LOL
This theme is brilliant -- makes a player feel like a tired, battle-scarred, weary Vietnam veteran.
And to think it all went onto a single sloppy disk! These disks are not even in use anymore in the new computers...
I made it once, (After countless goes) cant believe the theme came back to me :-)
Blom has placed a gernade in your bagpack... OMG those where times!!! Love it uploader, Thanks!
damn, i remember this since this came out im speechless
ONE OF THE BEST GAMES IN HISTORY!
haha
is das geil...muss ich sofort wieder spielen. danke....vielen dank fürs hochladen....
Oh yes, they are still in use. I always have a floppy disk in my computer, even my brand new one. They are good for flashing the bios. And I have a pack of 10 disk laying around here. And I own a commodore 64 and an amiga 500 so I have many disks.
Memories
Yeah, great Game, awesome Music!
I remember when I was child, not so able to understand the english language (I'm italian), so, not completely able to understand exactly how to do with that game, how to beat it. But, I didn't care so much, because that music was so epic, so beautiful that I was completely immesed in it.
Good old Game...
Awesome game, and awesome music, kinda played the game for the music only. Never completed the game, cuz my crew always got killed or complained way to much :D
God damn Amiga music was class.
hehe never finished this one...but loved it....the soundtrack alone is worth playing it. Great Classic, both Game and Soundtrack....
btw....same with Cannon Fodder :D
me too =).. love this!
Any over 40 years old gamers here and still in the business?
Gamer forever! Games from amiga you can run under all windows no install, only find game in list and download exe file from:
thecompany.pl
AND PLAY!
I ensures that you feel 20 years younger!!!
PUMP THAT BASS!
E.P.I.C
@Richtschwert Ahhh man I know the feeling, How i wish i could teleport back to them days and stay in them forever! I'm with ya man, your not alone mate..
pinball dreams, jaguar xj220, shuffle puck than after that it gets really bad i start checking childrens tv intros from the 80's and 90's. love that era, not a care in the world
I made it. Very funny: Didn't finish most of the games I played but such a game all the people find very difficult.
In my opinion one of the key of my succes was NOT to enroll scouts. They always ended up in a martial arts fight which lead to severe injuries (at least for me). Better let them surprise you and gun them down.
The music in this game is among the best tunes ever made to a game :) Never finished the game tho, bunch of whiny soldiers.
never could get past the mountains , my men always killed me lol
god what a wonderful tune. and the game? now let me tell you, i think i all of my attempts i managed only once to get to Du Hoc. half of my team was dead or dying, i was badly shot up, it was pain, agony, despair but i made it. i can't tell you which crappy PC game i played last but I'll remember that ending the rest of my life...
theamige never will die :). I Own 15 Amigas and will make copies of copies of copies and will sfe it to storage-systems (raid 5). I LOVE Amiga, too :)
i remember when the old peasant gave u poisoned rice :P
The key to victory was analyzing on paper that 10x10min rest is more efficient than 100 min rest, and 30x10min rest is better than a few hr of sleep. So why sleep?
Kopie tyłek od 20 lat.
Amiga still has the best scripted music in history of personal computers..
way better than the midi-fuck from today..
turrican is also an awesome example for genuine music made by amiga composers :D
I would like to see a walk-through of that one!
Fantastic game. But how bloody difficult was it!! lol
Anyone know how I can get hold of this game for Mac? Loved it so much when I was a kid.
ME TOO, YOU CAN ONLY PLAY IT CRACKED.
Miód na me uszy :) :) :)
Man was so sad when your men just kept on getting sick, tired, angry, stepping on landmines and traps and eventually dying.
Never played Oregon trail myself, but I'm pretty sure there wasn't as much action :)
@NinjaTom2005 I am afraid you are missing the point.
I can almost feel on your response that you are not from the Amiga generation. It is exactly as Richtschwert said, it was a time that meant a lot to a lot of us, and that will never come back.
XBOX and other consoles are cool and all that, but - you have to remember that this was when PC folks were still playing Moria in CGA in Black/White, moving an X around on a screen, fleeing from "s" and "o" and the PC speaker was screetching at you ;-)
Bach openly defies your orders......DAMN him to hell!
2:54 feels like alien world
@Richtschwert It may come back if sonny or Microsoft try to make it to there console, i got X-Box 360 and sen some old games on the arcade game marked place and many they can put it there if the owner of the game say yes.
