My favorite plate at the moment is the dual-sided smooth PEI plate. It's thicker than the other plates and you don't need glue stick for PLA. It's a smooth surface so between this and the textured gold PEI you have two great finishes. Also PETG, ABS/ASA and PC print really nice on it too. I'm amazed that ASA doesn't warp on it. I think because it's really thick so it can't lift the build plate off the magnetic sheet. I just ordered a second one and it's coming tomorrow. One dedicated for PLA and one I'll keep glue stick on for other materials. Highly recommend you check it out!
To be honest i dont use any type of glue anything, and dont have problems with adesion with pla....and i use the PEI and more 4 from aliexpress with other textures, i think if people clean the plate they dont need glue!
One CON of the cool plate 35c (flip side engineering side 70c for petg) is that it will show your surface layer issues really clearly after you remove your print. Textured pei hides surface layer issues pretty well. Solution is to have a good surface layer. The other CON when using smooth plates are when you apply glue. If you have glue brush strokes or glue stick patterns on the plate, those brush patterns will transfer to the surface layer of your printed model
I’ve never used glue stick, it’s always been such a weird habit that’s misunderstood since it’s absolutely not for PLA, nor for bed adhesion but for DE adhesion so it’s easier to remote non PLA prints. It’s also GROSS. AND MESSY. And ugly. Get a PEX sheet for glossy finish, or smooth PEI for matte. The textured is an acquired taste and very subjective when it’s a good choice. Absolutely not when precision is desired.
Side note from other topics about glue haters knocking bambu for "needing glue" to stick Hell the glue isn't to make PLA stick on the cool plate. After a few prints I'm re-applying glue as the prints get harder and harder to remove. Large surface area prints have left me wondering if I'm actually going to be pulling the sticker up
Thanks for the information. If you have to use glue, do you clean it off with alcohol afterwards and do you always have to add the glue to the entire plate? Thank you.
I really liked the cool plate. I agree, it is one of the best but I'm so lazy that I got tired of putting the glue so I bought a PEI plate, it works great, no glue. I think I will stick to it (pun intended). :)
The Bambu Lab gluestick is horrible, it is like your skin that peels after you get sun burnt. I bought some 3D LAC but I bought the wrong one, I got the one that has the pad and it wears out before even 10% of the liquid is used, I should have bought the spray version. Some people claim that you don't need to use anything on the Cool Plate as the prints come off just fine, however, I would still use an adhesive on very small parts. I threw my Bambu scraper blade in the bin as I managed to damage a textured PEI plate and I was being extra careful! I use the Ideaformer PEI plates and they are excellent and a third of the price of the official ones, I have the full collection of them now and I really like the holographic ones!
Thanks for the great video! The PLA prints adhering to the bed has been a bit of a headache with the textured plates. I was disappointed to find out that since the release of this video, Bambu Lab discontinued the cool plate!! What plate do you recommend now for the best adhesion?
I use the smooth two sided pei and textured pei (and wham bam pex sometimes) I’ll never use the cool plate - I don’t understand the use case when the pei plate is minimal cost, lasts a long time, and is double sided. Also just say no to glue stick for PLA .
100% agree I’ve actually worn out 6 Bambu Gold PEI plates but these cools just keep on going, paired with Elmer’s glue stick their bulletproof and energy saving too and quite LOL no messing with the annoying chamber fan
why cant you find these anymore ? im trying to print some colour lithophanes and tthe bambu lab wiki say cool plate in the setttings but i cant find cool plates anywhere online will using the textured plate make me lose details ?
Funnily enough I love the engineering side, if done just right you can print everything and then it just pops right off after. The only down side to my plates is that I believe that my bed is warped, and the nozzle does get extremely close to some parts and then causes fails
Discovered one advantage to using the cool plate for PLA rather than other plates, a lower electric bill. Used a power monitor and noticed that when the bed is heating up the X1C draws 1.1kW until the bed is up to temp
Put a new link up. Thanks for the heads up! It looks like the Cool Plate Stickers are not on the site right now. Here is a link to a double sided cool plate: shrsl.com/4hb90
Textured PEI. Works great for everything. I find the only drawback is you NEED the glue on it as a release agent for TPU, Flexible PLA and larger ASA and ABS prints or they just won't come off clean or without damaging the plate.
It's not quite true. Textured PEI doesn't need glue for any of these, speaking from experience Edit: This is only true for TPU on smooth pei or flexible pla, the rest is untrue
@@rjakiel73 ..... no..... textured pei is textured pei. Differences per brand in material composition are minimal, so are production processes. You were simply using glue when you didn't have to. The whole idea of getting pei is to print without adhesives
@@UnwrittenGamingftn so ripping the bottom off of Flexible PLA prints and pulling up a small piece of the PEI coating was my imagination? Hell maybe I should imagine a million dollars? Or maybe imagine that you have the inability to accept that you're experience isn't the only one in the universe?
I ordered a cool plate when I ordered the printer but started to return it when I got one with my printer. Really started to love it so I canceled the return. Waiting for the bambu smooth pei now. I like the duel textured plate but definitely learned you can get consistent auto filament calibrations on it. Make sure you tune the filament before you use it on that plate.

Yes about the cool plate, but it’s not click bait for the ppl who got the cool plate and have no idea what to do with the stickers. Just because it’s not for you doesn’t mean it’s not for a lot of ppl searching for help.

2. Smooth PEI / high temp
3. Aftermarket gold textured PEI

I’m so confused I don’t know where to buy the engineering plate
Or the high temp plate
I just wish they'd modelled a hole in the handle of the tool. (after printing it)
Why did Ba Bu Lab do away with the cool plate?

Hello and first of all congratulations for this excellent video! I'm curious, since I have an A1. Is the cool plate compatible with the Bambu Lab A1?

It's a no for me with the stickers. I've used the tool and it makes it worse for me. I prefer the non sticker bed plates.

Just what I want, another disposable thing that I have to purchase semi-regularly.
Most build surfaces (aside from maybe G10 and borosilicate glass) are consumable and expected to be replaced once worn out.
My fav is the cool plate.
Cool Plate is much more limited in materials that work with it. Stopped watching your click bait vid at 2 min.
