    One thing I don't think you mentioned, there's a bump when you put the spool together, if you don't turn past the bump the spool might come apart during use, which is a bummer.

      Bambu Lab really needs to open this program up to all owners. After all I have the serial number and since I use their slicer and am not in LAN-only mode theyalready have my traffic running through their backend. So they have the data needed to verify my "ownership."

      In my case I brought my X1 Carbon from the only authorized agent in New Zealand. At that time Bambu Lab would not ship from their website to NZ (I think this may have changed now). Anyway, I'm penalized for using their only authorized agent for not buying online, when at that time I couldn't buy online from the Bambu Lab website.

    It saves money over BL's original prices, but I find that Amazon has more choices, better prices, and faster shipping. I've ordered filament from Amazon and received it same day, next day, and two days (with Prime membership). BL shipping times are much longer, they have higher prices, and they seem to have problems with stock availability when I've shopped there. I do like the RF tags that come on the BL branded filaments, but all things considered, I think I'll stick with other choices available on Amazon (at least until something happens to change my mind).

      this is 5 months late but from my perspective, as someone who has tried A LOT of different brands: bambu lab filament might be more expensive than some other brands but their quality is really really good. it's up there with the best. meanwhile many of the cheaper brands on amazon are kind of not great quality™ many might not care about the difference but for anyone with a decent printer it's kind of a waste to use bad filament when you could have so much better prints

    Love the system, the refills, the labels and RFID. The membership however is not a money saver because you are limited to 8 rolls and currently there are challenges with available inventory. • @JackMaslovLive

      Bambu is working on reducing the color switching waste (poop) when printing with the AMS. Plus you can tune it to release as little as, I think around 30 grams of waste for a 80 gram print with around 150-200 colour changes. Not bad. Still some waste but not bad.

    • @johnslugger
      @johnslugger 2 місяці тому +2

      @@JackMaslovLive *On the industrial 3D printers ($25,000) They have 4 filaments going into one print head. They do it very cleverly. They know it takes exactly 5 seconds for the new color to flow to the tip and their slicer takes that timing into account and starts feeding the new color in the hot-end 5 seconds before a color/layer change. The slicer also knows to spread out the color change layer as much as possible for about the next 3 seconds so the head jumps around a lot depositing tiny dots of "mix" to spread it out thin before hitting it hard with the next color. The result is 100% perfect 4 color prints every time with zero waste. The trick is to keep everything tight and have a high Wattage heater to keep the hot-end as short as possible. It can be done.*

    • @JackMaslovLive
      @JackMaslovLive 2 місяці тому +1

      @@johnslugger That's really cool. I didn't know this about 3d printers on the industrial side. I wish this would be implemented in sub $1000 3d printers, but when selling 3d printers to regular consumers, I guess the companies have to also take into account all the scenarios where it needs to work, for the widest variety of filaments and kinds of prints. Not to mention that those industrial printers are probably really bulky, not something you would put into your house or on your room desk.
      Really interesting nonetheless.

    LOL for those near a Microcenter we often buy Inland PLA/PETG/ABS on a cardboard Spool for the $18ish price (normally like $20-$24 but almost always on sale).. So I wouldn't be saving anything paying $18-$19 for refills plus shipping... Only down side to using Inland is keeping the AMS lid open which I think the Hydra AMS mod fixes (haven't done it yet).

    Hey, does the membership program still exist? Cause I'm in Europe and I cannot find a way to even see this offer on their website. Even when I load the US version of the site.
    Gonna give you some info on my prices. Let me know if it's any similar.
    In Europe even the most basic PLA costs 24 euros and 27 euros (~30 USD) with a spool from Bambulab, so it's not even worth it.
    There's only a bulk discount which totals 4 KG = 72 euros, (18 euros/kg) which is the most expensive I'd go for regular PLA but this only applies for the basic PLAs and DOES NOT include the spools.
    With 4 spools it would be ~ 21 euros/kg. Not for the metal nor colourful finishes, neither for ASA, just basic and matte PLA, and one PETG.

    Membership might be worth it, if one will buy from Bambu. Problem is - way too often they have stock shortages, and if one wants some particular specific color filament for print, many give up (not due cost, but due availability) on buyin Bambu's alltogether.
    P.S. Regarding stock shortages in relation to refills, in some cases worth checking up, if particular color filament is not in stock in "other form". Not often, but sometimes it helps to get what you want due "other kind" being in stock.

    • @GROGU123
      @GROGU123 5 місяців тому

      Yes, but be careful. AMS doesn't always like cardboard spools, infact filament with cardboard spools is not recommended. I haven't had any issues with Inland(microcenter) filaments with their cardboard spools, but because of how the spools ride on the AMS rollers, thinner cardboard can deform and not spin correctly. It's recommended to only buy fiilament with plastic spools.

      I imagine that's because they're still assessing what to charge for the membership. The program is new, at least less than 6 months and everyone who purchased a printer pretty much gets the complementary membership program for 6 months, which bought them time to sort out pricing, since they will have another 3-4 months and change here to decide what the price point will be.
      Two rolls of newer coloraed transparent PETG showed up at my door last week. I thought it was shipped bu mistake, checked to make sure i wasn't charged then saw it was sent via the membership program which was sweet. I inow those are random and i got lucky but 2 rolls of new free filement withoit doing anything was nice to get.
      Both the company, and the membership program are new, if you need a more direct answer, it's better to ask the company directly. The have stated that it won't auto renew so you just lose your membership when it expires. I imagine by then a price will be set and it could depend on how much filament you buy directly from them.
      If it Auto renewed automatically in charge the card that would be a big red flag but no aito renew, you have to manually opt in. I'll wait and see what the prices once they finally say what it will be.

    Also refills ALWAYS jam on me. Every spool. The filament ends up on the edges and gets jammed. The refills don't fill up the spool to the very edge like the ones with spools do. Somewhere else I saw someone say you should kind of smoosh the filament down to push it to the edges so I'm going go try that next, but I didn't see you do that and I'm pretty sure the directions don't say to either.
