This is truly an impeccable video and I cannot stress enough how much growth you can see from this alone.

I wonder what your thoughts on disco elysium's dialogue trees are. It seems to be the exception that proves the rule; since the primary gameplay loop is reading, they wrote the dialogue without trying to pare it down to fit into a short amount of space.
I absolutely love every single one of your vids! You explain things in a way that is both thought provoking and entertaining. Every time you upload I just have to stop whatever it is I'm doing and watch. You're one of my biggest inspirations and I respect you with every fiber of my being.

Getting to see this come together has been such a thrill, and the tree symbolism (and the use of the stylized footage behind the curtain during the live segments is absolutely superb! The animation in moments like the NPC dialogue and each picture-in-picture moment really polish the heck out of this and make your argument super easy to follow, and the actual point, that just endless dialogue for the sake of endless dialogue, without any care or interest, is so reductive in the grand scheme of things. Legitimately, I feel this might just be your best work to date; it's so smartly written and well-edited. I am hoping this one takes off for ya as it's well worth the wait and exceeds my expectations!
Also that Superhot footage was really good and I gotta imagine whoever recorded it is really cool :p

This video brings up a great point: choice shouldn't influence a game too much, because it will inevitably take away from the purpose of said game. it doesn't make sense to complain about a lack of choice when there isn't a reason for the choice to be needed

Hopping the creak, such a beautiful analogy for just letting the art flow, and creation of our own hands, a trail, a forest for the trees, and we've a game, a story, a narrative with strong roots, that would be a beautiful game, a beautifully written story and game.
AI is an interesting hot topic as of late, see "AI artists" for instance. The "AI" copies images from the web and mashes them together to create an "original" piece, which if done by a person, is how art is in a sense made. but there is reason in our madness, the "AI" knows not what it creates. And it won't change the industry, as the person who did the "art" only put in a text prompt for the AI to mash things together.
if stopped there, it's not really much, but I have heard actual artists taking such images, and building upon them to help with reference material. so it's a tool.
for writing however, it's not a tool, as you said, it makes up info after mashing things together from surfing the web. it's not compiling data, but making it up, as it doesn't know better, it doesn't know anything that it is saying really.
Writing games and writing stories in general, is an art, and should I be replaced by an AI for the literary vomit it spews, I would be appalled for being compared and replaced by an infant.
I can tell how much heart you put into this video, and how much care you put into the editing. well done!

I originally came for the humouristic Payday2 content update videos, I stayed for carefully crafted works like these. I'll admit, I at first unsubsrcribed once then turned back and undid that. For a while I was so annoyed with folks just going and following trends over and over. Metal Gear Survive was my first real wake-up call that big youtubers were not to be trusted. While that game's particular details can leave a lot to be upset about for some, the largest nail in that newfound feeling for myself, was Wolf' Youngblood. Your video about it, combined with DX's "I liked Wolfenstein Youngblood" video, was what made me realize I was too harsh on you, not even watching the video before clicking "unsubscribe" (before undoing that decision). I'm still sorry about that.
I really, really appreciate the work you do, please keep it up. It's become a rare perspective today.
No sponsors, no superlative headlines, straight to the point, and an artistic vision that knows what it wants to convey instead of the aesthetics of being artistic/fancy (as you explained), are why I'd rank you pretty high as a creator.
I'm glad you tackled AI as a theme on this one. If I may, here's a suggestion: I feel a major, silent problem in the game industry today (or entertainment at large for that matter) is how outdated and binary the search / review systems are. more often than not, games we want, already exist, but their visibility is the issue. Largest, loudest games are on the forefront, made by massive companies with money to burn in advertisement, and yet, we don't even know some things may exist that completely match what we seek. Lack of transparency is a problem, and that goes hand in hand with one-dimensional rating system (eg: Steam) where you're either FOR, or AGAINST something. For example I think rating something using 3 scores: "my initial expectations, my feelings soon after starting, my feelings after stopping", would be a good start, it's not hard to figure out...
I'm not asking you to make a video about this but I hope it may give you ideas for whatever you got next :). Keep it up.

iiiiii'll also say the metal gear survive video is prob my most embarrassing 'successful' video since i stopped doing payday content lmao. i think it was around then when i realized i didn't want to go down the road of seeking out self-inflicted anger for views. it's more worthwhile to criticize things i think could genuinely improve!!
Not sure I understand the comparison of Myst to The Witness. Both are great but they have basically nothing in common.

I've been waiting so long for discussions about AI like this. There has been so much misinformed discourse about nonsensical aspects of this topic, and not enough earnest consideration of what the future of AI would look like when taking into account where it works and, more importantly, where it doesn't. This video was a refreshing change of pace.
I do have a minor nitpick, though. The idea that "we don't have actual AI yet" is more of a rhetorical device than a literal fact. The criteria for something to be intelligent, artificial or otherwise, are quite unimpressive. Things like sentience and autonomy are completely separate phenomena which aren't necessary for something to be intelligent. Modern AI fully meets the definition of intelligence, and by extension, the definition of AI as well. It's just not very smart.

and to be honest, im worried about that too. there was originally another passage in there about the difference between "general AI" and "AI" but i, fool that i am, assumed that would be a rather silly distinction to make because discussion around that wouldn't persist as the general public understood chatGPT
i did not count on the weird AI cults. that caught me off guard, somehow. and now i really wish i had clarified those terms more.

Artificial Intelligence is nothing more than following footsteps, staying in the same boots, and getting thrown off the trail by other scents- all while genuine creativity, writing styles, *beauty* is underappreciated and underpaid.
Writing is ultimately what many people come home from their jobs to appreciate, whether in games, movies or a multitude of other artistic mediums (AI Art also disgusts me in this way)
I can only hope we see complete commercialization bans on AI generated content.
Also I did not write this with AI, I'm just autistic
