ik this is a tutorial for players that can't PvP, but Ima throw in a pro tip in da comments just because why not. -If you think your aim is above accurate, & your crit timing is decent. Lunge at your opponent (by jumping, of course) and do whatever :/ if it doesn't work the first time, it probably won't the second. -If you are playing a non-shield game and your opponent is staffing but NOT moving forwards, critical hits will not work. Players that use this technique usually back up when you have the chance to crit. If you get too close, they move forwards and you get hit. I recommend jumping forwards (causes them to move backward) but only hit when they are close enough. Again, DO NOT attempt a critical hit, likely they WILL move backward on it. -Axe. Reading your opponent is pretty easy, and almost every player has the same body language, also pretty easy to read! When your opponent jumps, always are aware to hit them after they fall. If they hold their shield for a pretty long time. Either it's a newbie/beginner OR the player is using a technique (spam clicking whilst holding the shield up, so when they get hit they can hit you back). The technique is dumb though. Personally, I think it's dumb because half the time you don't get any crits. Too lazy to write anything else ;-;
I consider myself as a pro 1.8 pvp player with 7 years of PVP behind my back, and this is my thoughts for this video: Don't go to high ground if can't run away quickly or you enemy is a good player because if you are on high ground the enemy could reach you earlier [aˇ2+bˇ2=cˇ2] Don't always wait for a critical hit, if you can hit just hit and then run + block W tapp don't really work in 1.9+ Use honey instead of milk Use crystals (almost instant kill) for multiple targets if its available. You can use them by placing a obsidian down, above it place a crystal. you need to do this really quickly, after that hit your enemy multipule times so they are in the air, place a block forward yourself and hit the crystals you gain almost noo damage in proper armour but your enemy could get instantly killed. Use pearls if you are facing two or more enemies. If you are fighting a pro player don't starve, try to use S-tap or fake raging. these moves are kind of advanced but if you practice them they could be mastered in few days/weeks. Don't forget to change pvp styles in mid-pvp. If you are facing a great player after a few tries they going to know what you are going to do. I hope I could help for some players 😁(and sorry for bad England its my thrid language)
Finally, a PVP guide that isn't just "strafe around them, idiot." Hopefully, thanks to this video, I will get better at not dying in stupid ways. Thanks a bunch!

Wow that was actually good. Most people just say the strategy which is blatantly obvious but don’t explain things such as having to stop sprinting to get a crit. You actually explained the mechanics which is something I’ve been needing to figure out for quite a while. I’ve been spending the last year just trying to put gear my opponents early in manhunts. Ty

I can tell all of you, when given the option between a totem and a shield, you should take the totem, every time. Shields can be temporarily disabled with an axe, and a totem is basically a second life, especially if you combine it with a gapple once it pops. Also, without the shield you can literally just brute force through players because you won’t be attempting to block hits
That was an amazing tutorial, another thing you could do is place cobwebs on a player and then lava on top. it traps the opponent and kills them it’s very useful

Really good tutorial, thanks for making it. I have a objection tho. At 1:13 you said that the1.9 shifted combat from fast clicking to strategy. It's a common misbelief that the 1.8 pvp is about clicking fast. There are several mechanics in the "old pvp" that you can use to gain advantager over other players like fishing rods knocking people back and other stuff that I don't know (cuz im bad lol). These mechanics are absent in the "new pvp". It's true that the 1.9 combat is more strategy based. The 1.8 combat is more about physical skill if you know what I mean. All in all it's partially my opinion (u can disagree) and once again, great vid :D
I enjoy both versions of pvp for different reasons. For 1.8, it’s more fast paced and based on raw skill. For 1.9, I enjoy the strategy and outthinking your opponent
@@Ro11enYT What are your thoughts on the impact of high ping on both PvP versions? Do you think its better for someone with high ping to play 1.9+ PvP or should they try 1.7-1.8 instead? What gives better (less frustrating) gameplay for high ping?
But in 1.8, if you have a drag click mouse you ALWAYS win. Like, its impossible to lose with a good mouse cuz you can literally get 50 cps with it. So, 1.8 pvp depends on money. As a 15 yr old person, i cant afford a good mouse. Also, nearly half of the players in 1.8 is autoclickers, they are everywhere. One thing about that height clip - you technically have shorter reach when your above someone. Technoblade mentioned it in his fight with Dream that one time, but it's basically because you are looking down at them on an angle (like the hypotenuse of a triangle), while they are able to look straight ahead or very slightly up, meaning they will be closer to your hitbox. It's definitely a viable strategy if you opponent isn't reading your strafing well, but I just wanted to point this out. It's very useful to be lower in areas with a single block difference, if you use a sword and spam/time your hits you're untouchable unless they get on your level.

I am a bedrock player and I PvP really good on mobile . But for few days I have been playing a java and bedrock crossplay SMP and the PvP mechanics work like Java so I had to learn some things lol , Thanks.
Thanks dude, after a war on my smp I said I wanted to life a peaceful life on a farm but after a few weeks, some people robbed me of all my things so I’m going to kill them all Edit: turns out the reason why they raided me is because a refugee from the war was hiding under my base without me knowing and stole a stack of Ancient debris.
1:19 this is why people disliked your video and Im decent at pvp and everything you said its true And I never saw this video before and all the things you did I knew them but didnt use a lot it will help a lot and great video!!!!
8:00 mans just did the epic tricking technique in the well known free team based first person shooter known as team fortress 2, the trickstab in the minecraft
Also another tactic you can try and get as close to the opponent as possible, similar to tf2 strats, where aiming is way harder when you are right someones face and strafing, and also it allows the splash potionns to effect the thrower as well as you
*Fisting strat* get a *Strength* 2 status effect (overall 7 damage from the single hit) and just fist your opponents to death - you can deal up to 4 hits per second (while sword can attack 1.6 times, axe only once) without lowering your damage You can kill the iron armored opponent in 6 hits (1.8 hearts per hit) Diamond armored player wrecks out in 11 hits (0.9+ hearts per hit) Netherite geared player gets killed in 12 hits (0.9 hearts per hit) A lot of hits are required to kill (sharpness 5 netherite axe critical hit deals 24 damage overall), but the advantage is less accuracy requirement as you can make hits 2.5 times more frequently than with a sword (although 0.5 seconds damage immunity partially overrides the attack speed) I see some of my enemies underestimated the fact that i could just sort of combo them with a fist
thank you for making this I'm no stranger to 1.9 however I have just recently gotten good with 1.8 pvp and decided to train a bit on 1.9 as well to be well equipped for any 1v1 duels with friends on 1.9 I used to go head on but now I see I wasn't as good with my movement and aim in 1.9 ill try these methods in my practice
This is a really good and useful video, the only adition I'd like to make is that you can actually crit while sprinting. I found out about this on complete accident, but as it turns out, if you attack while falling down and sprinting, you wont do a crit, however, the second time you do it, it does count as a crit. As long as you never stop sprinting, you will still be able to crit.
also tip in any pvp 1.8 or a 1.9: be patient. I was in a fight in bedwars and he lost me, I was still in their base and both our beds were gone. After some time he didnt know I was still in his base and punched him in the void.

@@deadbananaegg2419 i wrote almost same thing but longer and gave a link to video where pro kills the dragon
This video is great, there are barely any videos properly explaining the new pvp mechanics so thank you so much. Now i can sweat both 1.8.9 and 1.16
Finally a guide that doesent just say "Strafe and w-tap"
That's 1.8.9
That's 1.8. This is 1.16
@@kreonidas7475 you still need to strafe and a tap in 1.16
@@arsonate9341 yes but not as much as 1.8
@@kreonidas7475 eh it’s pretty important
7:49 this made me sub just for the ROTS reference also I found this video to be very helpful so thank you!
Thanks dude, after a war on my smp I said I wanted to life a peaceful life on a farm but after a few weeks, some people robbed me of all my things so I’m going to kill them all
Edit: turns out the reason why they raided me is because a refugee from the war was hiding under my base without me knowing and stole a stack of Ancient debris.
i send lots of luck to your battle comrade
@@pixelcyte2457 thanks
Kill 'em Happy!
Eh that's a shitty smp anyway
@@toomanyblocks8448 ?
1:19 this is why people disliked your video and Im decent at pvp and everything you said its true
And I never saw this video before and all the things you did I knew them but didnt use a lot it will help a lot and great video!!!!
Thanks, 1.16 pvp seems useless until you realise most smps use it
10:39 it might also be smart to bring honeybottles since they can remove poison and are stackable
Informative. I like you got straight to the point about everything. Gave it to us on digestible chunks.
1:09 that chess :D
thanks! i do a lot of pvp but needed to learn how to strafe for sword pvp, especially at the start of fights
8:00 mans just did the epic tricking technique in the well known free team based first person shooter known as team fortress 2, the trickstab in the minecraft
Also another tactic you can try and get as close to the opponent as possible, similar to tf2 strats, where aiming is way harder when you are right someones face and strafing, and also it allows the splash potionns to effect the thrower as well as you
Thank You so so much!
I knew a lot of this i was just waiting for the part where you pvp multiple people, i wasn't dissappointed
Thanks alot ive been trying to get better at pvp this helps☺
i knew nothing of pvp before this because of you ive won my first duel thanks!
*Fisting strat*
get a *Strength* 2 status effect (overall 7 damage from the single hit)
and just fist your opponents to death - you can deal up to 4 hits per second (while sword can attack 1.6 times, axe only once) without lowering your damage
You can kill the iron armored opponent in 6 hits (1.8 hearts per hit)
Diamond armored player wrecks out in 11 hits (0.9+ hearts per hit)
Netherite geared player gets killed in 12 hits (0.9 hearts per hit)
A lot of hits are required to kill (sharpness 5 netherite axe critical hit deals 24 damage overall), but the advantage is less accuracy requirement as you can make hits 2.5 times more frequently than with a sword (although 0.5 seconds damage immunity partially overrides the attack speed)
I see some of my enemies underestimated the fact that i could just sort of combo them with a fist
Thx I got recommended when trying to learn pvp in Java after playing bedrock for 8 years he sent me to this
Just some stuff to make the combat easier is getting texture packs that lower shields and fire to actually see something.
Getting good at all both kinds of pvp makes it super easy to pve and speedrun
thank you for making this I'm no stranger to 1.9 however I have just recently gotten good with 1.8 pvp and decided to train a bit on 1.9 as well to be well equipped for any 1v1 duels with friends on 1.9 I used to go head on but now I see I wasn't as good with my movement and aim in 1.9 ill try these methods in my practice
Thank u from Russia! So helpful video. Thank u again. Like
I LOVE you!!! Thanks for everything!
me watching this was me praparing to fight in a civilisation simulation event. thanks for helping me chances! i'll try to use what u taught.
Very helpful. I learned a few tricks or two, but I still need to work on my accuracy.
Remember watching this when I started pvp. Just coming back to watch this.
I love watching this video once every few months.
This is a really good and useful video, the only adition I'd like to make is that you can actually crit while sprinting. I found out about this on complete accident, but as it turns out, if you attack while falling down and sprinting, you wont do a crit, however, the second time you do it, it does count as a crit. As long as you never stop sprinting, you will still be able to crit.
also tip in any pvp 1.8 or a
1.9: be patient. I was in a fight in bedwars and he lost me, I was still in their base and both our beds were gone. After some time he didnt know I was still in his base and punched him in the void.
