That's because Big Country songs are like sharks' teeth: sharp, cutting, to the point and when one is done another one just as brilliant pops into place! The guitar work in this song by Stuart and Bruce are just remarkable and it is the perfect song to cap The Seer - it is so full of life and hope musically yet the lyrics are somewhat sombre...what a musical genius. To hear Stuart's lovely daughter breathe new life into these songs in her own unique and heart felt way is such a blessing to her and all of us fans. Clearly God has gifted this family with wonderful song and sincerity!
Omg kirsten. I left scotland to get a job as a sailor. Royal Navy. To get a job. Your dad would be so proud. Yes I know and love the song. I will cry no more. Beyond stunning. Me and your grandad are saiors no more. And Stuart is still part of us. Our hearts
This is one of my many favourite Big Country songs. You have such a beautiful, haunting voice. You've really made this version your own and I love it. ❤
Always one of my favourite Big Country songs, ever! To hear the words, music and inspiration from Stuart in a different forms always brings a tear to my eye. Miss him so much. Kirsten, thank you so much for keeping your fathers music alive. Stunning version.
Beautiful Kirsten. One of the first and best concerts I ever saw was The Skids at the Apollo in Glasgow about 1977, the whole place was bouncing. Still remember it to this day. Your Dad is a legend and will never be forgotten x
You just made me laugh and cry at the same time with this beautiful rendition. Laugh as in so happy to see an immaculate version of a favorite song of mine. Your dad was my guitar hero and still is. I really miss him and it is safe to to say I’m his biggest fan in Singapore. You have definitely made him proud. Coz I am proud of you! This is the best gift you can present to your dad, which is to carry on his legacy with your beautifully trained technical voice. I look forward to see your other covers. Thank you Kirsten! Made my evening!
In my mind, one of the most beautiful songs ever written and my favourite Big Country song! I wish they played it more live,,,,,, It stirs up many memories. You sing it beautifully
A wonderful version of an absolutely underrated song. Together with the legendary "Porrohman" this song is to me the best final song of any Big Country album. How it breaks out of its folk song pattern in the second part - unforgettable and also very well intepreted here by Stuarts daugher. Stay alive!
So there is actually some real talent still out there. Kristen you are quite a unique talent in this weary old world. Don't give up, keep making your music 👍
Stunning rendition Kirsten🙂. Thank You for sharing it with us all Not performed often enough at gigs as I recall Great Song and full of spirit and passion but your father knew no different he gave every song his best as it was the only way he knew 🙂. God rest him and God Bless him Touched my life forever and I’ll be eternally grateful to him for that Thank You for sharing🙂
"i was the mother's son; I took the fun; I knew what I was giving" (the great divide). not sure why, but I think SA's songs for the first four and most popular BC albums were also the most lyrically autobiographical ones he did (hard to be autobiographical singing 'we're not in Kansas anymore' when one was never in Kansas in the first place etc.) or maybe one should say the most youthful/introspective (tell me the truth, are you one in a million, or just some baggage from my youth?) rather than auto-biographical. anyway, this sounds like a successful cover to me. one of Stu's eternally youthful songs. another one with the soldier/sailor theme, but tis not a militant one. no more into the valley shall we go, he could have sung. whole seer album is a little like that. maybe that's the link with the title/theme of the next one (ok, i'll stop waffling now). "who's protecting the innocenti?", no that wasn't one of his lyrics.
Truly on another level, Kirstens interpretation of her fathers classic has so many levels to appreciate, wonderful without doubt .
This is a beautiful song. Thank you .

Better than the version sung by current big country line up
Half way through, I noticed several drops of water running down my cheeks.
STAY ALIVE!
